Absolutely fantastic Adam. Number 1 definitely deserves its place. Plus for 100% of these you climbed up, down and up sections to get your camera equipment. So for you it was completing all the electives twice in the same trip. Except the one you didn't, ssshhh, I won't tell. 😉. Thanks for the upload, really appreciate it. I'll never hike these as I'm the wrong side of the pond but living vicariously through your hikes is the next best thing. Thank you.

OO have fun on your hike. I have a few non four thousand footers all over the channel. Check out my 52 with a view and Massachusetts hiking playlists. Hopefully when I fully finish the 52 with a view I could make a cool complication video similar to this one. But I need to heal up first. Happy Hiking!

Fantastic video, commentary, and filming. First time I did Wildcat was at the end of a brutal 3-day hike, in the rain, in the other direction. I do NOT advise going down that trail in the rain!!

Cool video! I had the exact same experience descending Blueberry Ridge. I'd personally put Air Line ahead of Willey Range due to the sheer elevation gain, I personally don't mind the ladders :)

I think for me it was more how much further I needed to hike for that one to count beyond the ladders haha. But Mt Adams is also a monster hike so I respect your choice.

That's Awesome! My friend and I hit the falls after we filmed the intro on the river and wildcat scramble. And Don't you worry I have been taking it very easy on hiking. Hence why most of this is old footage. Just needed that quick intro clip and now I'll be resting most of my hiking till next year I think. Hmm Maybe if I feel well I'll consider a winter hike. I'm not sure!

That's a lot of 4,000 Footers! Looks fun. I've tried all the trails exact for castle ravine, but that does look terrifying haha

Ya it was! Five trails and what 7 4ks with theirs ridge lines haha. I almost wanted to cry that day the filming took so long and I was hiking back in the dark 🤣

I really like these list style videos! Maybe you could do a video on getting started on the T25 including trails from both the elective and required list to start. My first T25 was Morgan and Percival which I would have to do no matter what, but it is much easier to start with that as opposed to Wildcat Ridge Trail. Also do you have any suggestions for trails to begin with on the Terrifying 25 because I’ve only done Morgan/Percival and I would like another fun hike?

Don't you worry. I have you covered. All of the elective trails are typically easier than the main list. If you look on my channel I actually made a "5 easiest" and "my 5 favorite" for the elective T25 trails just last month. This was the 3rd in the series. "5 hardest" I think the ones I cover in those videos might be what you are looking for. I will have to finish hiking the required list to give you more information on that part haha. But If you look on my channel page I do have a playlist for all my T25 videos. Feel free to check any of those trail specific videos out to get a sense of each trail and ones you may want to tackle that I've already done!

I have not done Beaver Brook (yet!) but I was surprised to find you listed it as "easier" than Wildcat ridge. I did the Wildcats, Carters, and Moriah last month (Sep 10-12) and I didn't find Wildcat ridge trail THAT challenging. It was fun and exhausting (and then going up and over Carter Dome afterwards pretty much wiped me out) but Beaver Brook as been making me nervous just thinking about it and I've backed out of the hike twice now because the weather was not perfect. (Both times I still hiked Moosilauke, but via a different route). Maybe it's just time for me to grit my teeth and find out for myself.

OO I definitely think you just need to try it out for yourself. I viewed the two trails in totality. Beaver brook is steep and sketchy but just on that one ascent. After that the trail is basically a cake walk to the summit and no big deal. Whereas I found Wildcat consistently tough and annoying the entire time. Didn't even make it down to the hut like I should of. Just an overall longer and more involved day.

@@AdamHoyt From what I understand, going back DOWN the Beaver Brook Trail is even sketchier. Did you do that? A few years ago I backpacked up the Gorge Brook Trail and then down as far as the Beaver Brook Shelter where I tented overnight. Then I went back via the Asquam Ridge Trail. So I've yet to do the terrifying part of the Beaver Brook Trail lol.

@@jeffstone28 O Jeff I can confirm it is a rough time down. All those stairs and footholds are designed to help you up and are a little awkward on the way down haha. You should still try it!

@@AdamHoyt as you may know, some northbound Appalachian Trail thru-hikers get shuttle rides so they can do the Beaver Brook Trail southbound to avoid descending it.

I thought you might have included the Desolation Trail, which is seared in my memory forever. On my first ever backpacking trip at age 66, led by an irresponsible leader, I descended that trail, already exhausted with quivering quads, after climbing Carrigain via the Signal Ridge Trail. I managed to get down the trail in one piece (we camped at Stillwater Junction) but I will never forget that grueling day.

OOO I did hike that trail but I did not find it nearly as tough as the ones I ranked. It's only seared into my mind because toe the nudist I bumped into hiking the trail that day lol. I'm glad you made it through and went with a better guide in the future!

@@marknh3312 I should never have been allowed on that backpacking trip as a first-time backpacker. It's long-ago history now, though!

I just hiked Willey, Field, Tom a month ago. The ladders are the easiest part of the climb up Willey, which is a tough overall climb.

Surprised I didn’t see Huntington ravine up Mount Washington on this list. Any reason why that doesn’t compare ?

The terrifying 25 has two sections to it. A required section of 15 trails and then 5 optional trails from a choice list of 14. This video ranked the 14 optional trails to give you the five hardest of the 14 to pair with your required trails. To make the hardest possible list. Huntington is on the required list..

Of course everyone has their preferences but to not include Huntington Ravine is inexcusable IMO. My top 5 are Huntington, King Ravine, Great Gulf, Tripyramid North Slide, and I agree with Wildcat. I haven’t done all of the terrible 25 but I’m sure that most White Mountain hikers Have their own list. Now as for Katahdin, I can think of 3 that are just as terrible!

Those can’t possibly count for this list since those are not T25 optional trails. These are only to help people pick their five additional trails to the required 20, which all the ones you stated are required and therefore not on the optimal list and not the subject of this video. Cheers!

I wouldn’t expect it lol. These were only elective t25 trails not as scary and not as hard as the main list.. so way harder things to find
