Great video. It's always difficult to show what an internal Kung Fu can do, but Liang De Hua at least shows glimpses without having to feel it directly.

I don’t remember in what book I read this statement by Y.Cheng fu: “He was asked how is it that so many martial artists sought him out for instructions. Without trying to challenge him to a fight. He said the trick was to accept their challenge and only to push them. But push them in such a way as to have them exclaim; Shifu, could you do that again.” This was his way of spreading knowledge without harming anyone. Truly excellent comment as to Yang Chen Fu honorable character.

Actually Yang Cheng Fu was quite brutal. You can read it from Cheng Manching or rather inderectly from Lowenthal. Also he only get into his 50ies. He had great skill but isnt a good role model. His uncle Yang Banhou also only made it into his 50ies and was so brutal that he only had a few disciples.

@@Gieszkanne ok let me say this, first famous does not mean someone is really good or correct in what he does, secondly it is not what the yang family tree instructors say about them selves and the praise they give them selves that matters ,it is what others say about them that matters most, master Wang Xiang Zhai founder of Yi Quan and the man that traveld the whole country of china north and south for 40 years fighting everyone in his path had this to say after 40 years i found only 2 real masters in China , one was a Xing I master the other was a Liu he ba fa master, as far as the Tai chi masters he said this, the Yang brothers are good friends of mine and the best of the tai chi practitioners in china but please dont try to use this art in combat for even a opponent with not much skill will defeat you, tai chi has lost its intuitive instinct for combat a long time ago, this is from the master who beat most everyone, and third about Chen Man Ching and if he had internal power or not, just look at some videos of him pushing people using what is supost to be fajing, he is using his legs and body pushing and bearly moving his student , videos are available of him on youtube take a look , and if you want to see Real fajing take a look at David Chan liu he ba fa fajing, his body never moves ,real internal force ging is throwing the student to a matress on the wall, look at both masters and you tell me who has internal force , you will see what im talking about

The things that Sifu showed here actually is taught and understood easily from Wing Chun form practices and just studying theories, concepts of various means.. But Tai Chi forms combine all that stuff and puch them together.. So In such haphazard practices, a good teacher is always needed to clean every single segment out much more than Wing Chun forms.. He is really teaching lifetime moves.. My standing ovation goes for him and of course you uncle-The Martial Man🙏🙏

Domenic Datti By controlling his energy correctly he is KO :) 'controlling enegrgy" does not mean only follow him and neutralize his attacks. What is taught in Tai chi in the beginning, and what you can see on youtube, is indeed, beginner matter

  • @DomenicDatti

Understood. A lot of what you see on youtube is push hands and connected practice, which is essential, yet only part of the picture. There are 3 ways to stop an attacker: knock them out, lock them out, or give them what they want. My comment about controlling vs. striking was meant to say that you can not rely on dumping energy and defending constantly to stop an attacker. You have to either knock them out or lock them out, or they're going to keep trying to get what they want and may eventually get it. So it's not so much about striking vs. controlling energy as it is about mindset. Defense vs. offense. There should be no defense, but merely counter offense.

Same is true for Aikido, for example. 99.9999% of what you may find on yuotube is either the very early beginner matter or falsely understood aikido, practiced incorrectly. If fact the swooping circular movements of beginner level must be contracted into points. Applied aikido is offensive and aggressive.

We have two arms, two legs, elbows, knees, one head, This pretty much sums up the human beings weapons without any use of tools. there is no attack that one style can use that no other style (or no style) cannot use. It's not what you do nut how you do it that matters. Street fighters are just as dangerous as any long standing martial artist if not more so because they are combat experienced often more so than any of the martial artists and on the street it's always real if not always very good. I've been doing Tai Chi Chuan for 38 years and whilst I don't disagree with these five fists I would not agree that they are all that Tai Chi Chuan has or uses. I respect Liang De Hua, he is a man of skill. Obviously here he is speaking in a second language which will greatly hinder his communication and therefore he's probably not explaining everything as well as he would in his mother tongue. Respects to him for this exchange.

Speaking on TCMA Internal combatives: Theres great material here. However, as a Baguazhang practitioner, I think its unfortunate how inactive the legs are in these drills. Each kind of strike is only talking about the movement of the hands (upper basin), and not the movement of the feet (lower basin). I know you're using your internal principles and Chi to control people at the higher levels, but not teaching integrated footwork positioning at the beginner & intermediate levels removes utility and dimensionality from the applications. Its another reason why you see these horrific encounters w/ TCMA practitioners where they are standing there & getting pummeled. They haven't embraced full body application. Understand how the force you are creating can apply to evasive footwork, sweeps & trapping.

This is what Wang Xiang Zhai the founder of Yi Quan, had to say about tai chi, Among the disciples by direct line of Tai Ji Quan, I think the most outstanding master-hands are the Yang brothers, Yang Shao Hou and Yang Chen Fu. As an intimate friend of theirs, I know there is indeed some genuine knowledge of mechanics in Tai Ji Quan. However, out of one hundred practitioners, less than one knows its essence. Even if one may happen to know some of it, he cannot have a thorough understanding of the whole, because the basic way of perceiving the skill has long been lost, and therefore there is no mechanism of force to speak of in its legwork and footwork. The boxing in question in its original form had only three movements and was thus called Lao San Dao (Old Three Cuts). It was changed by Mr. Wang Zong Yue and increased to 13 forms, which was further abused to as many as 150 forms. That is one of the main reasons why this boxing has lost its quintessence. If it is practiced for the purpose of preserving one’s health, it will only restrain one’s spirit and energy and bring discomfort to the practitioner. If practiced for actual combat, it will only do harm to the limbs. Its other functions, if any, are nothing more than idling away the practitioner’s time and confusing his mind. As to its method of practicing, which is characterized by disorderly blows of the fist and the palm or kicks of the foot and leg, I must say it is really ridiculous. In confrontation with a master-hand, such a practitioner of Tai Ji Quan is sure to fail. Even its master-hand I am afraid, can do nothing with a quite commonplace adversary so long as the latter is not very clumsy. In short, this boxing has been abused to such an extent that it might one day become a mere rigid form like a chess manual. In the last twenty years, most of its practitioners are not aware of its falseness. Even if someone is clear-headed he does not know what he should actually do. As to ordinary students, most of them believe in what they have heard without using their own eyes. Thus Tai Ji Quan is in fact being pushed towards its graveyard. What a great loss! I sincerely hope that those competent followers of that boxing will straighten it out and make it systematic with a view to developing it in the future. Here I take liberty to make comments on Tai Ji Quan, and I don’t know whether my comments are appropriate. Pardon me if I am too outspoken. I think that one day those learners of Tai Ji Quan who have really gained something would agree with me in this regard. Another words its a waste of time lol

Interesting also his thoughts that Taiji can also harm the practioner. Yang Banhou and Yang Cheng Fu only get into their 50ies. Many Yang style masters only get around their 70ies. That is less than everage. Many masters from so called external Kung Fu styles get older and are in better shape.

@@jamesanagnos6123 So you have your own examples in your family. Did you know that TT Liang started learning Tang Lang very late when he already practised Taiji. I think it was in his 80ies! Why he did that? Maybe he felt that Taiji alone dont give him enough exercise?! What I want to say that for the claim Taiji give you a long live, there is NO evidence. And maybe its even bad. I once read an artikel of a Kung Fu/Taiji master who wrote that Taiji alone dont give enough cardio and criticized that many Taiji masters and practioners are overweighted.

He'd be destroyed. Xu is trained to fight, and that's all he focuses on. He started in Sanda. There is a philosophy: "You can only fight the way you train." This Shifu is just demonstrating. However, against a resisting opponent, he wouldn't fair well.

just love watching this bullshit. Start sparring, isolate 1 technique and check whether and how often it works... Just check for yourself what bullshit it is. Myself I have trained bullshit wing tsun for 5 years. It is beautifully logically consistent with endless transitioning from a move to another. Unfortunate;y, most of these scenarios are totally unrealistic. A perfect example of bullshit is using backfist under an opponent's hand which is never there after a punch. A lot of techniques which are truly effective are used inn MMA. I admit a lot of techniques if practiced correctly could significantly enrich mma. Having said this, Chinese individual styles don't work... Perhaps, except for Shaolin monks who take body conditioning to another level. Guys, wake up, Chinese martial arts is mostly a part of their culture legacy.. nothing more then this...

When he says 5 fists he's referring to in the form there's only 5 moves with fist in the name. Parry & Block, Punch to the Crotch, Under the Elbow, Torso-Flung Punch, and beyond these four there is also the Overturned Punch. He's trying to show no matter the transformation in the situation they are all derived from these moves from the form.
