The 5 Emotions in Every Movie | How To Have Emotions When Acting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The 5 emotions every actor has. In movies, actors will typically fall under one of our five emotional categories. There are of course more than just five emotions in existence, but the emotions stated in this video are considered umbrella emotions or primary emotions derived from a subset of emotions that lead towards them. Think about it like this, a Corvette and a Camaro are two different cars (you could call them two different emotions), but they are housed under the company Chevrolet (which would be your primary emotion or umbrella emotion). So if we switched these terms around and said hostility and irritability are both separate emotions, but they are housed under the primary emotion of anger. It's important to gain this understanding, so no matter which emotion you choose to play with, it will typically always be housed under one of these primary or umbrella emotions.

The school where I study says you can't act emotions, you can only take actions.

You can’t act actions either.. actions are doing and so are the by product of emotions but what.. by doing something will then elicit a response. By using my imagination (this also works using emotional recall but that past events) if I create I circumstance i truly believe I can elicit a emotion. But that comes to the skill and depth of that actor to craft this. Also personalisation, want and tools I use to get what I want. So crafting everything’s so I can just let go and be in the moment, listen and respond etc like we do in reality but we can heighten these to connect with the circumstances of the scene. As Sanford meisner said. Acting is the ability to live truthfully under the imaginary given circumstance. Ability means it can be learnt which is good. We also have emotions and are emotional all the time doesn’t mean your breaking down or punching someone’s face in. Levels are levels. We all have emotions sometimes we have to accept some are easier to access than others through a lifetime of conditioning.

Thank you for the video, I always thought the 5 main emotions were Happy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Discust like Disney's Inside Out, but this is okay, I can learn the hate emotion, too. Can you make another video with your emotion wheel's levels 1-3? Please. It would be useful to tell the difference between low emotion usage to high emotion usage. Oh, and I just finished with my college acting class and I am going to another one no doubt about it, soon, this winter. 😭😡🙂👍

Your teaching is very compelling. You explain things very well. Your color wheel is obviously meant to be simple. But shouldn't it be more balanced? Happiness and sadness are sort of opposites. If there is hate, there should be love. If there are anger and fear, there should be peace.

Yeah, but the video is about the 5 main emotions of an actor in a movie. So none of that matters. I think when you express these 5 emotions in a film, the “love” and the “peace” come naturally in the end.

It’s all wrong. You can’t act emotions. The best way to show realistic emotions is to use them from your own life experience, to feel what you felt in that moment you had experienced a particular emotion.
