Once upon a time I worked with a bloke who spoke NINE Asiatic languages and a number of dialects, fluently, as well as English, Italian, French. Spanish and German and had a PhD in International Relations. One day I got called in to 'deal' with him as another person he was trying to help, couldn't get past his Indian accent. Rahul had, as far as I was concerned, a rather mild accent and was always a pleasure to work with, yet this muppet was going bonkers at him for being a "f*cking wog" who didn't speak a "proper" language. It took a few moments of this person waving their arms about and making nasty sounds, me standing there with crossed arms waiting for him to run out of steam and my buddy starting to look through some paperwork, before the guy actually shut up, looked at my pips, 'scary' salad board and 6'4 versus his three stripes, basically no salad and 5'4. There was a lot of mumbled something about not feeling well and could he be dismissed? I spent a few minutes verbally pulling a pound of flesh off of him (I'd done a short stint as a DI before my commission), had him apologise to Rahul, who although a civvie, still merited more deference than this turd sandwich ever would, resolved his issue and then marched him straight to his company area and let his CSM know I "wasn't happy" and why. I cannot and will not abide such ignorance, especially when directed against someone such an inoffensive, helpful, useful, unassuming and elegant gentleman, such as Rahul.

Like I said in another thread here, about the only time I can see PD, Troopers, or Sheriffs not looking at their holster while holstering is if they're working solo and trying to put someone in cuffs, simply because you want to keep your eyes on them in case they try to do something stupid. In an ideal world, they'd have a partner covering the suspect while trying to cuff them. But, we don't live in an ideal world, and many officers are forced to operate solo. I'm not saying that they should do it that way, or that it's the right thing. I'm just saying it's about the only realistic scenario where I can see someone keeping their eyes on something other than their service.

Having spent the last decade of my life working with non-native English speakers, I usually tell them that they speak and/or write better English than quite a few Americans, who have problems with just "hi." Being a native speaker of a language does _not_ mean that you necessarily speak and write it well. It just means that you got to learn it for free. There are inarticulate or functionally illiterate people in every nation and culture on this planet.

I spent 6 years working in an office space with mostly 30-50 year old African, Vietnamese, and some ME immigrants. I got used to all kinds of accents and "butcherings" of English. I've noticed some people felt it was rude to tell them you couldn't understand either what they were saying or what they were trying to say, when in reality it's rude to pretend you can and likely miss the point of whatever conversation you're having. It's far easier to have a little laugh with each other for miscommunications and have some clarity. Anytime I taught them something about English, I'd ask them to teach me something about their language in return. Was a fun way to help them and also learn something in return, even if I never end up picking up Vietnamese, Swahili, Hmong, or Arabic. I was 21 at the time and it felt odd teaching people twice my own age. I think my approach helped humble myself and remind them there's plenty I could learn from them as well.

It is positively INFURIATING to make the effort to learn another language, go to courses, practice speaking and writing in your free time and then to try and speak it to a native speaker only for them to look at you like you've just grown a second head. The amount of people who have spoken to me in varying degrees of broken English with sometimes insanely thick accents and wild pronunciations and then expecting me to decipher it is at this point beyond measure. Yet I can generally converse with them. Meanwhile the lady at the shop is looking at me like I'm crazy. Re-holstering without looking is one thing at the range, where the holster is 99% likely to be where you left it (and even that 1% still gets people, a la NDs). But out in the field? After a fight? Maybe it came out of your pants with the draw, maybe you knocked it askew rolling on the ground, maybe your clothes are jammed in it, maybe there's blood in it. You really want to then blindly stick your gun back in that when your hands are also numb from the adrenaline dump? How embarrassing would that be? Survive a self-defense fight for your life, only to shoot yourself on the re-holster.

I think the terms 'sniper rifle' and 'assault rifle' are simply convenient terms to use when referring to a certain type of firearm. There are actually very few rifles that were designed from the ground up to be sniper rifles. Most rifles used for sniping are indeed scoped bolt-actions, even though they were originally just hunting rifles. Saying it's not ok to call them sniper rifles is really just semantic bullshit that some people use to try to sound more tacticool than others.

Cool thing I've learned working (remotely) with a lot of people accross the globe is how most tend to think through things in their native language and then translate it on the fly, which is absolutely impressive to say the least. So big kudos to the sales reps and engineers doing it on the fly, on a show room floor, on camera

When first learning to speak Spanish, I did translate on the fly because I was still thinking in English. As my proficiency improved, I began thinking in Spanish. There really is a switch in the minds eye. The rhythm and cadence is completely different. I also dreamt in Spanish sometimes. The best was when I started making plays on words in a foreign language. I don’t use it much anymore but I’m proud to have made the effort.

I was working on a printer in the ER when they brought him in. I was talking to a DR, a couple years later and told him about seeing this and he started laughing. He was the attending that day and said the guy was the luckiest soldier in an unlucky situation. The bullet missed everything important, entering the thigh and exiting the calf and missed everything in the knee. They actually caused more injury to him with the exploratory surgery than the bullet did. So yes, get your finger out of the guard and pay attention to what you are doing.

I say lying as they agregate all shooting or murders (even with knives) and suicide as being murders. Murders is when you kill someone else but not in self-defense and not just with firearms. If you kill yourself it's not a murder, it's still illegal in most states but not a murder. Also the expectation that every small company with 10 employees should hire a team of professional English native marketing guys for their booth at the trade show - it's so unrealistic. I mean sure H&K or Glock can do that, but the small companies already struggle with the cost of the trade show itself.

Um... do you not listen to the constant snark? I mean, in a way he kind of is inviting the toxic commentary by constantly throwing shade. It's called engagement farming. Basically, every time he disses on people calling them losers or saying they suck for owning certain kit, he gets tons of mean comments which counts as engagement. That's why I ignore the childish garbage he says between actual intelligent things. If you notice, there is a definite pattern. This whole video could be rebranded to "how I bait people into pumping my numbers" especially since a video like this will entice people to pipe up because they feel called out or vindicated. Classic algorithm manipulation. Well really people manipulation for the sake of the algorithm. This kind of video is a pretty standard format most channels use these days. They are considered very effective to pump numbers.

Making sure you don't catch your handgun on anything as you reholster it is something I learned really quick when I got my shirt caught between my glock and my holster one of the first times I hit the range with a new OWB holster and belt. I'd rather take half a second to look down instead of trying to look cool by holstering my gun without looking. Especially since shooting yourself in the leg makes you look like a real asshole.

7:39 - Remember, there's no prize for speedy re holstering. :D Forget just looking at it, if you've got one of these concealed carry holsters with the quick clip I'd argue the safest way to reholster it would be to just pop that bad boy off, point your gun in a safe a safe direction, and reholster it in front of you at eye level. It'd be slow, tedious, and annoying but you basically make the chance of injuring yourself on the re holster 0. I'm not saying you should necessarily do that by the way and looking at the holster and carefully pointing the gun away from you as you holster isn't just about as good, but it would probably be slightly safer. :D

Think Caleb Downing. You don't want a carry peice that you're afraid to drop.
