Nothing can be more cool to sing those high notes in denims and sneakers! I mean, let's make countertenors popular. 👏👏👏

Fortunately, now countertenors have never been more popular or in demand. New singers arrive frequently.

@@djperry2174 That is true, however from my own experience I can tell that many talented men simply hide or are too ashamed to even show their countertenor predispositions. In our modern very judgemental society filled with pop culture, singing as a male within similar ranges as soprano might for many be too embarrassing and viewed as weird to simply come out of shadows. I recently got enough courage to show my capabilities to my family which absolutely blew their mind and my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. Now I'm undergoing vocal training every week with amazing teacher and hopefully next month I'll have my debut as countertenor which I'm really excited for. So yeah, the message to men that can with ease reach their high register - go look for a vocal coach you might be surprised of the talent and potential within.

@@ritahorvath8207 Survived? A countertenor is a modern invention that thankfully has nothing in common with the castrati. Some of the castrati may have had excellent voices, but at the end of the day it was a barbaric and abusive practice....and very few of them became exceptional singers. Listening to the Moreschi recordings and compare them to the super star performers of the period shows what a mediocre singer he was. Adelina Patti didn't record until she was over 60 years old and even though she was past her best, it's clear why she was the most in demand singer of her day from listening to those few recordings she left behind. Listening to Moreschi one hears a choral singer with a choral singer's technique who wouldn't be capable of singing the kind of repertoire that the legendary castrati of the baroque period sang.
In terms of what the countertenor voice can deliver, here is the full range; from light and lyrical to rich and powerful. As one interested in a diversity of music, this presentation speaks to me of almost overwhelming vocal and orchestral beauty.
Vince Yi - totally impressive !

I like the voice of Vince Yi... brilliant
Very wonderful voices, I love counter tenors, special voices, thanks
It's the beautifulest voice I've ever heard. No voice is better than this
Feel lucky discovering for myself this disc because it has some pieces of music which are the real masterpieces. And Vince Yi voice and singing style is just something special.
I like the volice of that Asian countertenor! Hmmm!
Max Cencic brought together fine vocal ranges, indeed. Xavier Sabata is the contraltist. Cencic and Yuriy Mynenko are the mezzo-sopranists. Valer Sabadus and Vincent Yi are the sopranists.
First time I a heard and saw a countertenor live was David Daniels in his magnificent prime in the year 2000 when he sang on Ms. Horne's final classical appearance. I never cared for them before that as most had a breathy and artificial sound and I just thought "what is the point!". It's hardly my favorite voice type , but a really good one is rare and a pleasure to listen too. However, these days it seems that it is common practice to cast second or third rate countertenor over a first rate mezzo soprano in a role written for the castrati.
Music Composers on the 18th century composed such a powerful, technically difficult challenging music for the counter-tenors. It is musically varied, powerful and demanding agility. Thanks for the upload

Stunning voices. Loved this!
Sabadus is right on about the progress in the last 20 years of countertenor singing. It is no longer just an impressive feat; it's a joy to hear. Bravi.
You guys have great voices. I think Yuri’s voice is very captivating in sound and quality
Happily there is not the best countertenor of the world, because it's not a pissing contest, or an agricultural fair of the fattest pig. It's about art, and in art there is not competition. Vermeer, Bosch, Rubens, Rembrandt are not in competition in Flemish painting art. We are very lucky, as we can hear many excellent haute contre who have each their strong points, their own tone and their sensibility. None can cover the whole range of baroque and other musics. And I enjoy that.

Ilan FYI Vermeer, Bosch and Rembrandt are Dutch painters. Rubens is the only Flemish painter. Nevertheless in art it's always about taste.

my friend vladimir catana should be including in this list, he is the best countertenor in the world, he is absolutely stunning.
you have to add Scholl, Davies, and Jaroussky to this list. To say anyone is better than another is to try to compare differing perfections. Each has their moments at the top.

Listen to Sunghoon Choi in Korea! Absolutely you're falling in love with Korean counter tenor
Many people often say the countertenor use falsetto to hit high notes as altos and sopranos. I believe it is not falsetto, because the voice has enough power and property, with lightness and brightness to perform arias that not the best tenor could with falsetto.
@Griffologee
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah falsetto is a more modern term that wasn't used in the same way back then. We think of falsetto now as more weak and airy, but in classical singing, it just meant in the upper register and in a different resonant space.
@manacrack144
7 жыл бұрын
Griffin Jenkins I have never heard of falsetto being an airy sound or meant to be weak tho some spots will naturally have less volume and power in your falsetto at different notes
@mikogale

umm, countertenor voice IS falsetto basically, so..
@phainesthai
6 жыл бұрын
Countertenors sing in falsetto, if they didn’t they would be singing baritone, bass-baritone or bass, rarely tenor because tenor’s falsetto isn’t normally strong enough in the low notes to be heard properly.
@robertmonthe9750

As he said the power been delivered can’t be falsetto

@jacobcarpenter3744
7 жыл бұрын
Vince Yi performed "Ti Parli in Seno Amore" from 'Farnace' (1791) by Josef Mysliveček. It was composed for a soprano castrato named Carlo Reina, who was acted alongside mezzo-soprano castrato Gaetano "Caffarellino" Maiorana (12 Apr 1710-31 Jan 1783) in Lisbon, Portugal. Reina's range and tessitura extended to C6 (c'''), where Yi's voice definitely lies.

Interesting Franco Fagioli wasn't included considering he has the fullest, most agile, and beautiful sounding countertenor voice in the world.
@NotSoDivineMsM
7 жыл бұрын
You musn't be familiar with too many countertenors if you think Fagioli is the most beautiful. Most of the performances of his I have heard are pitchy and anything but full, agile and beautiful. He lacks the vocal control that some of the better countertenors possess such as Drew Minter and David Daniels. Scholl is no slouch either. I wouldn't even put Fagioli in the top ten countertenors, quite frankly.....
@thangvuong9196
7 жыл бұрын
NotSoDivineMsM It's just a matter of taste. I prefer a darker tone voice, Fagioli, Lee, and Cencic are my favorites. The others are too wispy. The two thing I completely disagree with you about is the fullness and the agility of Fagioli's voice, he is definitely the best in those two aspects.
@bigbenhebdomadarius6252
7 жыл бұрын
+NotSoDivineMsM I never got to hear Mr. Minter sing, although he lives in my area. But I have heard David Daniels and was wondering why he wasn't one of the Five here. I have also conceived a passion for Jaroussky, but am I right in thinking that his technique is not always fully under control? Also, what do you think of Robert Crowe? He bills himself as a male soprano instead of a countertenor, but I am not sure what the distinction really is.
@jacobcarpenter3744
6 жыл бұрын
Philippe Jaroussky utilizes his nasal passages more, producing a scratchier sound than the rest. I don't know whether he still sings in new projects or not since "Artaserse." David Daniels likely trains up new generations of classical vocalists as Andreas Scholl and Aris Christofellis do nowadays. Robert Crowe also has students, I understand. Terming men like Valer Sabadus and Vincent Yi "male soprano" is debatable, but best refers to anonymous Jorge Cano, obfuscated Michael Maniaci, and retired Radu Marian. Robert Crowe is broadly labeled a countertenor (falsettist), yet gets placed in a particular class of them because he can reach and support the soprano range and tessitura.
