Regarding composition, I have watched so many movies that it became second nature. The hardest part for me is to clean my compositions and go for a minimalistic approach. My photos are often over-filled with details. It’s hard for me to find negative space to make things simple. I’m working on it but it’s hard.

Great tips Pierre ! I adore cropping and often find the "true" composition hiding in the original shot ( and I love the 24 GM!) I shall be thinking minimalist next photo outing. Also, because I have a fine arts background, I probably 'see' the composition without thinking but I do have the rule of thirds grid overlaid on my screen - I find it probably helps me keep things straight more than anything ( unless I don't want them to be, ha,ha!)
Pierre, merci. Tu es un plaisir à regarder et tu m’inspire à prendre des meilleurs photos (et à voyager plus). Stay safe.
In most cases I apply the rule of thirds and it makes a big difference . And yes the clean frame . Great video

I am a abstract painter and photographer. Photography is a visual art, express yourself in any way you like. Cropping in software or cropping a print, either is okay. I sometimes crop a printed digital print. Gerhard Richter in the 1980’s did many overpainted photographs as did many others. I like to play around with shadows and reflections of organic visuals in shiny man made objects, cropping helps me achieve the composition I am happy with. Even my sensor is cropped 😏

I'm not a photographer, but I became interested lately, so I have a fresh view. I see photographers (at least some) are often against using computers for post-productions. But they are not against using filters or different lenses to change the effects of their photography. Photographers frawn upon removing objects from taken photos in post-productions, but they are not against removing obstructions from the environment to take a better photo. Also they are not against moving to change the perspective while taking the photo. Photographers don't like cropping in the computer, meanwhile taking a photo itself is an act of cropping. Maybe they think using computers to touch the photo makes it too close to painting? I think both photography and painting are on the same spectrum. You take a piece of reality and make a phisical picture out of it. If you want to be a realistic photographer or more of an artist and you care more about the message than the realism - it's probably just a matter of choice. Maybe it's about "can we still call it photography" problem? Interesting topic.

I agree. And these rules are the ones that made me preferring prime lenses. the makes you shot faster (first rule), wider (3rd rule), and allows more crop (second rule). All this because you don't have to zoom, you choose a wider lens to be ready for everythink it could happen, and you have more sharpness. I use zooms only when I do need flexibility.
Mistake 6 : @4:00 tilting the camera LoL! Or did the Eiffel Tower fall over?

People are conflicted about cropping? Just look at that video on how the most iconic jazz album covers of all time were created : kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYKbo5mddNafYKg.html Yes, even pro photographers using film did crop their images to strike the minds of people looking at it. So, if you can crop to make a photo better without compromising on quality, do it!

@@Pierretlambert I know 😅 But I would love if you could give it a look, I'm trying to get more into filmmaking, and would love some advice from the pros
my rule is to never crop and never rotate not even the slightest angle. if a shot isnt perfect its just not perfect. If you train yourself to always overshoot and crop afterwards you wont learn anything other than placing stuff at intersections in lightroom. you gotta bring some tension and luck to the game, cropping a picture out of a panorama is what a graphic designer does, not a photographer. Second rule would be to not overdo scans in lightroom with 100 filters and tonemaps and curves. If you cant expose and develop correctly, learn the basics, dont try to cure symptoms, just get better. third rule would be simple: get you lines straight, and know your viewfinder to not crop by accident. thats the first indicator that you didnt pay attention if i look at a photo and the lines are not parallel or the camera is tilted if not for an effect.
cropping is evil
Cropping isn't a bad thing, photoshop and the latest "post" technology is the worst thing that ever happened to photography! Any idiot can produce good pictures with today's post technology😡
useful video but your voice is annoying, try to talk a bit slower
