Swimming is a sport that demands you to be in great shape. It forces your body to be fit since it engages with all of your muscles at all times. This week we decided to go over the 5 best exercises for swimmers to work on their fitness out of the water. While some may seem simple, all of these workouts have a direct benefit to your swimming.

Nothing to keep chest up, no glute and hamstrings.
Great video. Simple, explanatory, didactic. Suggestion: Out of pool Exercises to improve your resistance for long swimmings

Quick question- should you be doing this before swim sessions as a warm up or as a separate dry session?

Bec McColl this is actually a great question. From our experience here at team Phlex, it truly is about preference. If you are not doing an extremely high amount of sets, we see no harm in doing it prior to swimming, especially as these are just body weight exercises. Hope this helps!

This set is definitely not a warm-up, we do similar dry land fitness in an additional training hour after a swimming session

Nice video. Thanks. I can't do the planks properly. Should I hold my breath for a few seconds or keep breathing while maintaining the body position?

Err isn’t it supposed to just keep breathe tho?? I mean why would you need to hold your breath until you finish planks...

Hey guys i need some help...I go to the gym 3x times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and i swim 2x times a week (Tuesday, Thursday)..My question is that how many times should i do dryland workout and on what days and should i do dryland workout before or after gym workout?

We would recommend starting in sets of 5 and work your way up to what feels comfortable. Everybody is different but a minute hold on planks and crunches are always best, more push-ups and less pull-ups also helps

That is really good, even for freestyle. My training class or whatever only requires us to swim 50 metres in 1 minute or something.

We figured you already knew them 😉 No but for real, we replaced squats with that wild flip turn core exercise. Most of the time people don't have the snappiness and strength in their core to be relaly great at flip turns. Once you're good at that, then you can start focusing on leg strength to blast off that wall

Very poor video, non-specific for stroke, distance. No mention or reps, sets, duration. Also hardly the 5 best exercises, for example the fastest part of swimming is the dive in and push off the wall, so where was the exercise for increasing leg power for this aspect. Think again guys if you want to be calling these the best 5 exercises!!1
