The new Arrma Outcast 4s Outcast v2.5 is awesome! Is it better than the traxxas Maxx? I think so. Join me to take a look!

    Merry Christmas ... Awesome video as always. Just FYI you can save some money going to a Plumbing store to but some 2" , 3" or even 4" reinforced foil tape instead of buying the kit. You'll get a roll of at least 50 meters for quite reasonable money and do a heap of bodies .. But I'm with you, here in Sydney Australia I use plasterboard ( sheetrock as you guys call it) mesh joint tape and as shoe glue is hard to get here we use clear liquid nails and it works beautifully . I always hot glue the mesh tape on here and there to hold it in position before the liquid nails goes on..

    I can tell you from experience that I've already bought 2 spur gears for that center diff. I performed a transplant into my 4S Kraton V2. And twice the spur has broken into a bunch of pieces. The metal used is not good. I can almost guarantee you the aftermarket will be selling upgraded steel spur gears for the new center diff setup. And yes the mesh was right. Etc. Etc. Also the way the gear is held onto the diff assembly is also a poor design. The screws that hold it on are only barely doing so. There's nothing actually bolting the gear to the diff. It just slides on and gets semi clamped in place by small bolts. But that's not actually fastening the gear to the diff. I believe this is causing a lack of structural support for the gear. As it is essentially floating. Not fixed.

  • @DoRC

    @DoRC

    2 ай бұрын

    Ear plugs are a bit thicker than the 20 million Traxxas silicone. If you want the best stunt performance definitely go with the silicone ear plugs. Just keep in mind that the stiffer you make the center differential the less it is able to absorb shock loads so the more likely it is your break things.

    @IISG93II these sorts of things happen though I will say it's a little frustrating how Horizon tends to take a never apologize standpoint when problems arise. I may have figured out the servo issue on Arrma Outcast 4s V2. So I turned those black guards on the front shocks to face away from the drive shaft and now it’s turning almost on a dime. I’ve had mine for about 5 months and the turning radius was always bad. I saw the wear on the drive shaft there those guard were so I just lifted the spring and now have them facing away from the drive shaft and now it’s awesome. I mean that has to be it because I haven’t changed it from stock at all. Let me know if it works for you and if it does just give me a shout out on a video. Good luck, I hope it works for you. 🤙🏻

    Yes I've got some videos on the new Mojave. Definitely a fun car. I upped the center differential fluid before I drove it just because I felt how loose it was out of the box and knew that I was going to want to stiffen it up a little bit so I figured I might as well go ahead and do it now. For me a stunt truck is all about wheels up craziness and so I like to enhance that as much as possible. One of the main reasons why I liked the center differential less previous version was because of how easily it wheel lead. The center differential tuning is definitely a personal thing though and 20 millions certainly not going to be for everybody.

It's also going to cost you quite a bit more to put together but you get to customize your electronics tires body etc. Taking the build experience out of it if I was just recommending one or the other as a general basher I would go with the outcast though. It's cheaper, bigger and probably similar in durability.

    Not sure I understand your claim that the center diff absorbs shock loads and protects the drivetrain. Isn’t that one of the pros of a slipper clutch? I mean, I guess it does if you land on front or back wheels to some degree, but land on all 4 and it’s actually worse than a slipper, in my understanding.

  • @DoRC

    @DoRC

    7 ай бұрын

    In theory you're correct but in practice The center differential affords the same protection to the spur and pinion as a slipper while also protecting the rest of the drivetrain. It's very rare that the front and the rear of the car will have the exact same amount of traction. Without a center differential the entire drivetrain has to function as one unit and that means whichever end of the drive drain has more traction is going to dictate The speed of the entire drivetrain. Because of this when it experiences a shock load such as hitting the ground when spinning slower or faster than That impact dictates the entire energy impulse from that speed change has to travel through the whole drive train and be absorbed by the whole drivetrain. That tends to break things. They center differential allows the front and rear to spin a different speed so that's no longer the case. The center differential also performs the same job as the slipper clutch and protecting the spur and pinion because it allows the spur gear to essentially be partially independent from the rest of the drivetrain due to that difference in traction between the front and rear. Ultimately it's a pretty complicated thing to try to explain but in practice the center differential does a really good job of protecting the entire drivetrain whereas the slipper clutch is only really good at protecting the spur and pinion. The center differential is also both more tunable and more predictable in that tuning.

    Kraton 4s? That one was already good enough and all they did was discontinue two colors and change them for two others for the refresh. This is a stunt truck, neither the Maxx or the K4s are stunt trucks. A better comparison IMHO would have been the K4s and the Maxx if you looking for a Maxx killer. They are like for like. That said I guess people could choose this over the Maxx, they would not be getting the same experience from either truck but I do see how they may have a choice to make. I personally am more a K4s/Maxx man, I have the Stunt Trucks and for me they are fun but yeah, a Max or K4s will do the same stuff but the Outcast having a shorter wheelbase is more unstable so not as good at high speed. If high speed off-road runs are your thing then you wouldn't choose this over the Maxx. Awesome bit of kit though. IMHO Outcast in nay config has always had the better body.

  • @DoRC

    @DoRC

    The V2 Max is closer in wheelbase to the Outcast then the Kraton. It's also a high center of gravity monster truck rather than a Truggy (It's taller than either the outcast or the Kraton with a classic high CG style chassis). I think you could make the case for comparing it to either one but I feel like the max is a stunt truck and so is the outcast while the Kraton is more of a truggy. That being said anything that applies to the outcast as compared to the maxx will pretty much also apply to Kraton so it doesn't really matter which one you compare them to. They both are still better handling cheaper basically have the same features and are nearly equally as durable.

  • @DoRC

    I think it's a little bit beefier than standard ductwork tape but I'm sure it is just some standard tape that they've repackaged. It does seem to work pretty well though especially for the ease of installation and the little amount of added weight. Center differential fluid thickness is always going to be a personal thing. For me short wheelbase monster trucks are for wheelies stunts backflips and being generally crazy so I go as thick as I can without defeating the purpose of the center diff entirely.
