The 40 - Harvesting Corn
Today for #harvest18 we pick away at what we call "The 40" which is 40 acres that is in continuous corn. Thank ya'll for watching!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZread channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Be sure to subscribe for new videos every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!

@Sebastian Erler name of the channel is"The Rest of the Story" he and Ryan do a good job of not trying to be the same channel while still covering the same topics. Quite enjoyable to see the contrast and because of the different editing and recording styles they blend well together. Travis gives usually daily updates and Ryan does a very well put together showcase of the farming operation. Really want to meet both of them someday but alas, not within my budget at the moment lol.
The way the combine nose dived and you reacted to what ended up being that ditch I thought your Dad had hit a massive sinkhole and was going for a ride!!! Great video and drone work again👍🌽

Enjoyed all the fun camera angles! My son was literally glued to the screen the whole time!
Mounting the gopro on the grain cart auger was the cool thing to do be drones we accessible in the past. :) cool shots.

Ryan, you have an excellent choice of music in your videos!! Fun, snappy and enjoyable!!! ;-)
Great shots Ryan lovely sunset
Great video, looks like the corn is going to be clean with all the dust coming out during transfer. Bit different than when I was working on a farm in the late sixties, early seventies.
Awesome camera work on this one Ryan! Really great job of covering harvesting corn from many different elements of the operation! That hired helper looks familiar to me but I can't remember where I seen him at before! Oh well that's for the rest of the story later on! Thanks for taking me along !

Fantastic video. Love watching you guys everyday. Brings back memories of when I was a kid growing up in my farming town. Thank you for showing us all the work you do.
Hello, from central Illinois! I grew up on my family's farm - so this brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks for the video!
I loved this video! I grew up in a sky rise in downtown Denver so I never got to see a farm at all so I just play farming simulator lol. My grandma grew up on a farm/ranch in Texas and tells me stories about working the land. I’m really glad you made this channel!
Really look forward to your channel's notifications...Great stuff.
I’d have to agree on starting the 82 also 😄
Thanks for sharing Ryan..
Great footage 👍👍👍
I like your water way strips keeping down erosion. Ya'll have a good system going, well oiled operation. Drone view is beautiful. Enjoy the videos, keep it up. Thanks Dean. In SC
Always loved the look of those Brent carts behind a Deere
I really do enjoy watching you guys use the 8235r on different things we have a large farm and own 2 8235s they are our smallest tractors and we do not use them all that much on stuff you guys do so keep up the awesome work !
BS"D You're working so hard and now I know where this great corn comes from . Love you guys wishing you a warm and successful fall and winter
nice harvesting video Ryan
Beautiful shots of that maximizer, I love it.
Excellent video with great editing and interesting comments. Thanks for sharing and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Great job on the aerial shots and the angle shots. Your work on these videos is just amazing. Like a lot of others, I enjoy looking back on a life I loved as a child.
Being a farmer, a convenient excuse to operate and work on some really cool equipment.
Great Video Ryan, You Guy's have a pretty good system going, Thanks so sharing
Great work. Thank you for all your effort. It is a good ending for my day and to see your part of the country. Pete
Another beautiful video Ryan. You rock at this!

Enjoy another harvesting video. Amazing camera Angels and great editing.
Great video guys have a great day and a safe harvest.
@ 16:20… That would make an incredible screen saver! What a great shot!
You three are great. Thanks for the videos
Love the auger angles, nice work!
At least the first bin has a chance to dry down before transfer to the new bin. Time for some Maintenance and shop projects. I wonder if Travis will be painting his living room. Super job on all aspects of the upload.
Great view from the top of the unloading auger on the 9510!
Great video, Ryan. Well done!!
Looks like some great crops!
Loved this video. Thanks Ryan!
The video work with the drone between minutes 16:00 through 18:00 was stunning and well done.
Very nice video! The quality of your work only gets better with time so keep doing what you do.
Very good video Ryan love it and God Bless you and your familys .
Ryan,Fantastic job ! The best drone shots i have ever seen! And the editing and music compilations are Perfect! IMHO. you could start your own video busines and make a bunch of money at it! I really love the close up shots you do for our enjoyment! Thank you! ps.stay out of the sink holes lol.
Love the sunset shots... amazing cinematography! Kudos! OL J R :)
Really nice views. Thanks for making videos.
There are some amazing camera angles in this video! Great job!

We’ve all got our favorites. I love the 60 series tractors!
I accidentally got early access to this video for a couple minutes, so the first 10 seconds are old news to me lol. Awesome harvest video ryan!
Great angles, music etc awesome video
Some nice camera angles Thanks
Glad to see we aren’t the only ones that bend the support channel in the grain tank on the combine. Lol 2.25
Great vid Ryan
Great videos and camera work. I would love to spend a day with you guys.
Thanks for sharing your harvest! It is a busy season in itself, much less the work you do putting videos out. Very interesting to see historic use of the land and how it carries over into the present. With the two newer bins having different equipment, will you be transferring drier/known moisture corn between bins to manage moisture? I think you've made mention of this in previous videos.. curious your options with consideration to harvest conditions and equipment at hand.
Great video.
another great video
FLEET FARM!! woooo favorite store when I go home
Man those are some great shots
Great shots... for your "in row" shots like at 10:45, you can dig a quick little "pit" with a garden spade to recess your camera down into the soil a bit so the head will ride right over it... just taper a little "ramp" down into it in the direction you're filming so the soil doesn't block the camera's view... Love "worm's eye" views LOL:) I've done it before with the bean head and it works well. Later and KUTGW! OL J R :)
That is a cool view with the camera on the unloading auger arm. Additionally, what are the random non corned paths in the field for?
I ve learned that the more you have rocks the better yield you have!!!
and again it was a nice video ;-)
0:01 This happens to me every year xD Great video! I really enjoyed it! We're almost all wrapped up with harvest :(
Still raining here...off and on all day!

@@HowFarmsWork that radar looked very familiar, it must have been last Saturday because we got rained out chopping 4th crop about the same time, and we didn't finish until yesterday. How much rain did you get on Monday? We got six inches here in Sherrill.
Really nice video, 👍
Nice vid in joyed it!!
great video, great camera work
Ryan, how long did it take you to get used to climbing to the top of the silos? That last skinny ladder to the top without side rails gives me the willies!!!!!!!!!!!
Very amazed you guys don't have a sidehill combine
You are getting really good at filming and editing. This is better than TV quality. I always like the harvest videos but really any fieldwork videos are good. Hopefully it’ll dry out enough for y’all to keep harvesting and you won’t have to wait too long. Here in South Carolina it is currently very dry and still hot. We’ve still got highs in the 80’s and the lows in the mornings don’t go down past the mid 60’s. Anyway, great video!
Awesome you movies. Ever!
I mentioned it in one of Travis’s videos but have y’all looked into getting a bar from jd that runs from one side of the 8r cab to the other in the holes where the bar is now? We run them in our 8r and love it. Can be used to mount any type of screen or whatever will fit and is kinda cheap I think like around 200 dollars
We got rained out that day too.
About how far around the first (outside) round of the 40 can your dad get with 9510 before he needs to unload? Would that change much if you eventually go to a bigger combine and bigger head? I had to laugh at the "Darn Kids" moment. Were those empty cobs seen at 10:41 evidence of deer damage or just scattered from the previous pass? Before anyone knocks the PB&J, sustenance in any form is critical for long days like this. It's especially nice when it's delivered right in the field to you. As a fellow overnighter, I feel for your dad pushing so hard with so little sleep to harvest everything. Thank you for sharing the dual perspectives of your channel and your brother's since you're involved in different parts of the process. Epic videos like this keep me tuned in.
Ryan how much rain did you guy's get today. We got rained out. ✌and God bless stay safe. 🚜🇺🇸🚜
On our farm we are done combing corn
Do you like the John Deere brand? Here, in southern Brazil, we like the brand Valtra. Great job, Ryan.
You do some nice editing!
Nice looking 9510. Better than my 4420.
First I want to thank you for the great videos and all the hard work you put in as an American Farmer. What will this corn be used for? With such low moisture content, can it be used for human consumption or will it go for pet food or as a gasoline additive? Again thank you!!!!
Dang kids flying their drones taking videos to put up on a KZread channel, can you believe that. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼
You guys keep talking about the stiruater. What is it and how does it work. Thanks for a video of how it works
When will you do another 360 video I know it takes awhile to render and upload but they are very cool. Thanks for the awesome video.
How about the rocket cam?
Man your dad works night shift and farms!?! I couldn't do it... But I guess as a farmer you do what you have to! That kind of the trick of the trade lol!
Yall need an ag cam or two on the end of your augers looking down into the gravity box and/or auger cart... really simplify loading... :) Later! OL J R :)
