There are tons of jazz scale pdfs. And videos on the most used jazz scales. Endless jazz video lessons online. But what are the most important scales needed for working as a musician today? I wish there were unlimited jazz gigs in the world but primarily the music that gets performed the most today is popular music. How many styles of pop music can you think of? Everywhere you go there will be some pop concerts coming up. And this is great! These are gig opportunities for all of us. In general, as a saxophonist, certain scales are required for pop music so we can have the sound. I’ve narrowed it down to the absolute 4 most important here. With them, you’ll hit the ground running and begin to develop your career as a full-time professional saxophonist.

This is so valuable Get it down in all twelve keys and you have everything you need to make your own sound. That major pentatonic on its own has a Japanese sound. Put a funk beat on it and it becomes jazz/funk
Great sound!

Major pentatonic has a friend, its minor. So c-d-e-g-a C major pent. Starting from A you get the minor a-c--d-e-g

@@JorisPosthumusI think whatever works for each individual is what works for them. For me, it's more about the sound i'm going for in the moment. If I want a "pop" sound, I find I think major. And if I want a blues sound, I think minor... G major Pent sounds different to me on a G chord than E- pent.

@@PaultheJones Yeah, I am more into jazz, altered pentatonics and these last months I have been working on the triad pair system (hexatonic stuff) There is a cool book about this by WALT WEISKOPF called intervalic improvisation, cool book!
With all the jammin, where does the lesson come in or, a pdf to go with your “lesson” 🤔
wow 👏🏾
Isn't another way to know these scales to base on the root and sixth degree. So in tenor key F# blues, I can also play Eb blues.

There's so many good ways to think of scales. I just found these ones work well for me.
Great stuff here man. 🫶🏽 Just a quick question , when you’re combining the scales , are you thinking for 1 key centre or you’re playing the relative minor of the key centre of the Vamp? If that makes sense
@PaultheJones

Thanks! So if it's G7, I am thinking G major Pentatonic. And if it's E-7, I'm thinking E minor pentatonic. Of course both scales can be switched to both chords. Ie: G major Pent over E-7 and E- Pent over G7 and G Gmajor. But it's more about what I want to say at the moment. If I want a brighter/poppy'er sound I think G Major Pent. And if I want a blues'ier sound, I think E Minor Pent. Then in the end, mixing the two along with the blues scale, gives a full pop sound. (imho of course)
