Fifty years on, four different styles, I am faster now than I was as an 18 year old. 90% of military in the UK comprises of people just like me and you. I was lucky though, I joined the reservists as a medic (ITU nurse) with the 🇬🇧Paras. As a consequence of my life, I have no family to tie me down. Money in the bank and a freedom to do as I please, within the law of course. I have adhered to the Grey Man Principle all of my life.

We did this in my psych class once. I stood in front of the class talking about a subject and explaining stuff. Afterward, I left the room. Then we told students to turn over their packet and begin answering questions. Problem was, all the questions were about me. It was fascinating after doing this twice and researching the stats of just what they remembered about me! Can u tell, I loved my psych classes?!! People don’t remember a thing when u dress to blend. Only half remembered I wore glasses, no one noticed I was wearing a college hoodie (because everyone wore them) and not one person could remember anything about my shoes.

As a city dweller, I find myself needing to do the grey man most when I'm walking late at night back home, through rough areas. I sometimes pass by weirdos, junkies, thugs etc. who maybe stare at me and maybe even size me up in their minds. I don't make eye contact, I walk moderately fast and with purpose like I know where I'm going, even if I don't. I also keep a slightly pissed off look on my face and act slightly intoxicated and/or crazy/rough, but in a very subtle way. I especially do this if I feel like I'm being watched or followed - I don't look like an immediate threat, but I look like someone undesirable that nobody wants to interact with. In short, I try to subtly blend in with the weirdos, if I think I'm surrounded by weirdos.

That's pretty good but one thing I would recommend is making eye contact because looking down or breaking eye contact First is submissive so to speak but if you look at them and don't break eye contact you look confident like an alpha

We learned the gray man concept decades ago when I was going through military intelligence training school. They stressed that a good HUMINT agent does NOT look and act like James Bond. Strutting around in a Monaco casino in a tuxedo and driving hot sports cars just draws attention to you. We were taught that you strive to be inconspicuous to the point that you become psychologically invisible. You can pass someone in a store or on the sidewalk and two seconds later they could not give your description if their life depended on it. "Describe the man? WHAT man?" That is a true gray man.

You can also run the risk of looking so "invisible" that you become "visible". Nobody in any environment is completely bland in appearance. There is always something that separates them out. It could be an NFL jersey with a specific number, a yellow jacket, a red hat, or even a veteran's jacket. These things don't necessarily draw undue attention, and in fact look like normal attire in most locations in the central part of the country.

We INFJ's are very good at doing this - One of my friends labeled me a long time ago a 'moving target'...it's helped me to survive a lot of crazy scenarios! Funny b/c I also have been a 'stand out' a lot for certain other unique or specific qualities but if I need to go 'ingognito', I am super good at that. It's a great survival skill. Unfortunately, so many ppl don't know how to just 'blend in' in this clever way b/c they let fear mess them up, just like we see now w/ this Covid crisis. Too many ppl running over top of ea other to buy toilet paper! How pathetic that this happens!

She then locked the door giving a new meaning to the S&G song "In the clearing stands a boxer, a fighter by his trade".

I mean, nobody is telling me anything except old people that ask me what sport i practice/pracited or if im in the military because i still wear my dog tags. But the moment i enter a room,i draw attention by my size(i guess i forgot to mention the fact that i also have a weight of 103kilograms) and i use a hair style that i close to baldness(military "style") because i got used to it and also the fact that i have curly blonde hair wich draws attention.. +Siriusql Belmont Haha ! it's great to meet someone as tall as i am :D yeah indeed..we are calm people :) "gentle giants" and i'm glad that you don't draw attention..i hope that i will soon pe capable of doing that P.S I also forgot to mention the fact that i have arm tattoos..i guess they're a big factor in drawing attention..still,i wear long sleeve shirts and i still manage to atract attention

Exactly, last year I wore normal clothes and had a six pack. I got a lot of attention from both women and men, drunk men tended to be very aggressive toward me. Since I've got fatter, grown a scraggly beard and shit hair and some of my clothes have holes, in people ignore me like I have the plague. They think I'm homeless which is the way to go for avoiding attention.

Avoiding waving or eye contact can also be situational/environmental. I grew up in a small town. Everyone waves as vehicles passed or when passing as one walked past one the street. If you didn't wave - free other person would NOTICE you and wonder why you were being so rude! In a city /congested area nodding / waving definitely attracts attention!

@@LakituKoopa My advice, Do not show emotional attachment towards people in public-> it's a stimulus that can linger a long time. In a group, just go with the flow and anticipate what direction the group is going.-> yell out what the vast majority yells out. Act busy in silence, so people won't bother you, like walking with your phone in hand. Walk in random patterns, mimicking the people around you. Other good advice, and I am not kidding, watch the Bourne movies, especially the first 2.

I just discovered this channel and I find it very helpful and not panic-inducing. Most of this stuff is just life (I'm from the poorer kind of Europe) but it suits very well to analyse and think things through. In a way, it even makes me act kinder and more generous to other people, because death is an inevitable reality but suffering can be avoided in some cases.. It makes me think what is important to me and what I truly stand for, what are my weak spots and how to avoid getting tricked by my own mental weakness. Helpfulness is not a weakness, but greed and cruelty definitely are.

Love this. All I have to contribute is, I'm a model and a performer, and I dress very dramatically. I always wear a hat, my shoes click noisily when I walk, you can't miss me in black and red and you always know exactly where I am. Then just to blow people's minds I appear in public in plain black and gray. Total invisibility. To go from turning heads and cameras in Manhattan to vanishing entirely is very comfortable and refreshing. People who know me look at me two or three times like their minds are blown. Where's your hat? Where's your lavish longcoat? No suit? No heelboots? No RED? Nope. When SHTF, nobody's gonna see me. They're going to be looking for a man in two trench coats, a vest, a pocket watch, usually a cowboy hat or fedora, and red cuban heels. Not this hoodied stoner schlub. Another observation. One morning I went to the doctor. I felt like a schlub, so I dressed like a schlub, acted like a schlub, got treated like a schlub, went home, took a nap, got up, dressed like a prince, felt like a prince, acted like a prince, and got treated like a prince. They probably thought I was two different guys. But the first one, the schlub, if anyone remembers him, they remember him dismissively...what a scumbag, get him outta here. I've heard of people avoiding contact by dressing/acting 'off' or gross so people may notice them, but do anything to avoid them. Look ugly. Nobody wants to look at someone ugly. Cut your hair around a bowl, wear ratty clothes, stained shoes, the works. I think there's no such thing as a beautiful young and attractive Gray Wo/man. There are also whole classes of people society ignores, depending on the setting. Nobody notices roadworkers, homeless people, servants, the elderly. There are places you can easily 'be nobody.'

For some reason I noticed when people stand out or look “special/different” they become a target to kick out and fire. You wanna be the guy who gets the job done (high KPI- Key Performance Indicator) but somehow never draws attention to himself. In special forces selection being the gray man is also advocated you don’t want to stand out and look like a Rambo. Nice video btw, looking to watch the situational awareness video later
