So I've been looking for gen 2 viper videos ( the RT-10 and the countach where my dream cars when I was in high school in the 90s) and coming across this video I noticed you guys asking this question. Very good question on why its called that. I never thought to ask but that name Sneaky Pete referenced hidden nitrous in the 90s. Back in the 90s the race culture was huge, especially in my town as I lived near a performance auto parts store and warehouse called NOPI. They sponsored race and track events like the Race Wars you see on the first Fast and the Furious movie but on the east coast. During the 90s it was all too common to see various honda civics and mustang fox bodies duking it out on the streets and at the dragstrip with everyone looking for an edge so they could roast the other guy. We would all hook up and talk trash after racing for those that didn't wreck or get a ticket. The police absolutely hated car culture back then and rightfully so. Many guys employed small hidden nitrous bottles called "Sneaky Petes" which were thin nitrous bottles that looked like tubes more than bottles and where hidden in various places like under seats and even under the car and would literally hide the nitrous line inside an oversized fuel line all the way to the engine and even injectors. Many races had a no nitrous policy because it gave such an advantage back in the day (I ran a 175 shot on a 200hp car so you can see the significance) and so your car had to pass inspection before you were allowed to race. Even street racing the other racer would demand to inspect your car before racing because usually money was on the line and they wanted to make sure you didn't have any NOS. This is why NOS was so prevalent in the first Fast and the Furious movie. You could take any underpowered car and make it a monster at least for a few pulls until the engine and trans shredded themselves lol, which is what happened to the Mitsubishi Eclipse (and that happened often as those engines and trans were TERRIBLE). So naturally guys wanted to try and cheat because it wasn't all about the bragging rights and the trash talk once you won a race since alot of people placed bets for lots of cash (ego in the 90s got so many people into so much unnecessary trouble). Silly to talk about it now but that was the culture back then (Heck I even put stickers on my door like WWII aircraft kills did on plane fuselages - made alot of people mad so I eventually took them off as I almost got jumped more than once - so if you drove a honda civic and I beat you I would get a honda logo in the color of the car and the license plate number in white and make a small sticker of those two combined and put it on the driver door in a stacked row lol). I'm guessing you will probably need to email Chrysler and find out why the logo was called Sneaky Pete but since its owned by Fiat I'm sure those original designers are long gone. Will probably have to find out who worked on the project and see if you can email them, either message them on LinkedIn or Facebook. I highly doubt they have modern social media accounts. So my guess is that the snake would look like a sneaky pete installed and makes the car way faster than it should be. I'm sure it's not the whole reason and there may be another or a completely different reason but I figure I would offer this piece of the puzzle just in case. I'm sure its been lost to time. This peak into 90s car culture should help you figure out design choices of the logo and design back then.

I may be wrong, but I think MOST cars did not have traction control and ABS in 1992. Everyone remarks about the original Viper lacking these driver aides because it seems dangerous by today's standards. But standards were different back then. Traction control was in its infancy, and didn't even show up in a Mercedes until 1995. My mom's 1997 Thunderbird RWD V8 didn't have ABS or traction control. Airbags were becoming more common in the early 90s, but they were not required until 1998.

@@AlphaShark sorry you're so-called credible sources of information is all incorrect... Dodge knew that the truck engine was too heavy, Dodge knew they wanted a unique engine, So they created it from scratch.. Chrysler owned Lamborghini at the time and Lamborghini had the experience with the aluminum blocks. This engine in the Viper is not part of any other V10 engine that was designed for the truck, until they used the V10 in the viper truck. I cannot remember if it was your video or a different one I saw today... With some more misinformation about the horsepower... of course you think you did your research.. Google is often wrong. The Viper was actually under rated as far as horsepower from the factory. In one of my videos I show the true horsepower numbers for the generation 2 Viper... how do I get this information? Sure I meet the CEO of Dodge, But when I met him it was at Conners assembly plant in Detroit and had the privilege of meeting the men and women who worked with the viper for over 25 years.... If you would have had the opportunity to tour the assembly plant You would have come across the actual Viper facts.... The facts of what the Viper truly had as far as horsepower is concerned. there's way too many KZread videos out there providing false information even though I know it's meant to be positive You're providing wrong information It's an accurate... accepting that accountability goes further than wanting to debate something on information you really don't know about....

The only way what you say could be reflective of reality is if you reviewed hundreds of RHD cars, then sure, the driver's seatbelt goes from right to left while being on the B-pillar - however even in that case driver and passenger seatbelts still cross opposite ways of each other

One of the greatest cars ever built??! You've got to be joking. The doors sag, the panels don't fit right...I can go on and on. It's actually one of the worst cars ever built. Great motor though.

@@AlphaShark race car? Porsche 956. Road car that’s somewhat attainable? 911…even though I’m 928 guy and am extremely biased. The 911’s history is literally unmatched
