Hopefully this video helps someone who is on the fence about getting a 2013-2017 Dodge viper. I've tried to outline some of the features to look for and some of my thoughts about my ownership experience over the last 8 months.
If you guys have any questions please comment below! I will try to answer any that I can!
For those looking at picking one of these up, here is some info on the recalls. chrysler.oemdtc.com/947/custo...

I had a gen 2 Viper and I traded it in and got a gen 5 GTS Viper. I've heard all these complaints. I'm 6 foot 1 inch tall and admittedly the cockpit is small but I have plenty of head room and my vision isn't obstructed. My build is very athletic, like most professional drivers. The Viper is a true sports car and it is meant to feel that way. NASCAR, F1, Rally and other professional drivers don't have beer guts. This car is what Carroll Shelby envisioned. A big engine in a light weight chassis comfort be damn. If you understand that and Shelby you'll love the car.

I completely agree! I think the average car enthusiast gets so used to modern, comfortable, sport/exotics that they forget the intent behind the car! It would be like complaining that a lotus has quality control issues... small production and hand built, it’s gonna have issues haha

I thought about trading my 14 Z/28 but its too good to let go. This one is special and im keeping and it adding on to the collection. We are going to be seeing less and less of cars like these. I think whether a person would desire to drive one would be dependent on numerous factors. Such factors: What type of driveway do you have? What are the conditions of the roads on your commute? What are the general driving conditions like on your commute in your area (weather, traffic, and speed limits [do you rarely get on a highway and deal with stop lights] etc.)? What is your stature? I think the fifth generation Viper is a "correct-conditions-grand-tourer-car" with daily driving potential under the correct driving conditions. I am 5'6" and do not need to drive a lot, the roads are decent, and in my area there is not much traffic, so something like the Viper would work for me. Addressing the tire issue, there are alternative tires that last more than 5,000 miles that provide grip on the streets for hooking.

  • @johncoleman5388

This was a great video. I have heard both sides of the coin about these cars. Some would argue that the interior is cramped and gets hot, and that the side exhausts are a nuisance, especially if exhaust modifications have been done making the exhaust louder. I've heard some say that it is a terrible several hour road trip, car as well. I, however, do not think that the drivability of the car can be that different from other cars produced from 2013-2017. I have seen former Viper owners claiming they traded their Vipers for a "Vette, usually a Z06 or ZR1, because they are better "daily drivers", and "easier" to achieve quick lap times in. I, never having owned any Viper or 'Vette, would have to say that I do not think either one would be suitable for daily driving. Also, I think Dodge "mostly" remedied the hot cabin issues by this generation. From what I know the Viper, especially the Gen V, has a versatile motor, one that can hold up to modest boosting stock, and extreme stroking, up to 9.0L. The Viper quirks are easily remedied. Aftermarket heat shields keep the cabin absolute cool, there is a company that actually does an entire heat shield job, the hood, exhaust, firewall, etcetera. There are aftermarket resonator equipped exhaust systems that can "quiet" the Viper. Now let's talk about performance upgrades. The 8.4l V10 pushrod has excellent potential. Calvo Motorsports has a head and cam package that pushes 700 horsepower "to the wheels" and is emissions compliant, but I am not sure if it is C.A.R.B compliant. Their 9.0L stroker provides right at 800 horsepower to the wheels. There is not another naturally aspirated emissions compliant motor in the world producing those numbers, not even the Ferrari 812 Superfast. The transmission, the versatile TR6060 can be upgraded with minimal costs, to withstand the gobs of power aftermarket upgrades produce. In a nutshell, and I think this video illustrated this point, the Viper is a car that came from the factory with easy modification potential, it hosts a reliable pushrod designed motor, has an awesome tremec trans, looks menacing, and in maxed out natural aspirated form competes with the McLaren 720s, and is a MANUAL. Also, these cars are valuable. . .

If this were not a feasible daily for me I would consider the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. AWD, outrageous stock performance and potential for more at low cost, room for 5, tows, and has plenty of luggage room. I could daily either two I believe.

I watched this video, not cause I am thinking about buying one(which to be fair, I've been dreaming of buying one since 92) or that I have one, it's more cause it's my dream care and the greatest car ever built. I'm more like charlie from charlie and the chocolate factory when he's just staring into the candy store. I had a 2008 Viper as a daily driver which I hated, that car sucked, it had the build quality of a kit car, was loud (in a bad way), the rear end clunked, the engine vibrated horribly, the radio sucked, the wind noise was horrible, it was impossible and I sold it in 8 months. I later bought a brand new 2013 GTS Viper and the car was very livable, plus it was beautiful on the inside. I drove that car daily and put 36,000 miles on it. I am only 5'7" so I did not have the issues you have, the car fit me fine, the only issue was the seats and the way they recline, they recline about 6" on top of the bottom seat cushion which would screw up with my back a bit, and the offset to the left pedals have always been a bit uncomfortable on those cars.

There’s no such thing as a track pack LOL. Not all 2013 & 2014 got the 10 year warranty.

The track package should consist of the 2-piece Stoptechs, sidewinder wheels, and Pirrelli Corsas.

Theres definetely track package. I think its even different from the T/A 1.0 and 2.0. Which takes it another level on top of that. Then you had thr GTC cars in later models which were very customizable with different kinda options and packages.
