The .270 Sierra Gameking Tipped bullet

As the deer rifle season approaches, I am doing some shooting tests using a new bullet by Sierra. It is the "Gamechanger" in .270 Winchester. I will be testing their 140 grain boat-tail bullet for accuracy and expansion. So if you are a deer hunter, you will find this video interesting because this hunting bullet is available in a variety of calibers.

I have taken three elk with a stock Remington .270, factory rounds, one shot ...one bull walked slow about 30 yards, the other two died within ten feet. I never thought of limiting a .270 to deer or antelope. I moved to 7 magnum for about ten, twelve years, now I am back to the .270.....my favorite......Thanks for your informative video.

@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Took a moose in Alaska in 2014 with a 130gr Hornady GMX at 50yds? Literally disappeared instantly, however it was because of brush. Found out it took about two steps back while dropping..it was a quartering shot towards me, from my right headed to my left. I aimed at far left of his chest towards front of his right rear quarters. Severed his heart from his plumbing at the top of it. Heart was rolling around loosely inside when we opened him up. Didn’t have time for exploratory surgery for bullet, as I had to stand guard for bears, while my two friends dressed him out. ( I was recovering from hiatal hernia surgery 3 weeks before) My friend Tom gave me the job of overwatch due to brush and my surgery. I told him before he explained his reasons when I said let me gut him. He said “ no ai have a job for you”, I thought he was patronizing me and said so. He said “ no... bears can smell a gut pile over a mile away. Needless to say, I agreed instantly with his job for me, and stood atop a fallen tree to have a better view around. Also I’m from Alabama and was visiting my friend Tom, who lived in Alaska. Found him on Facebook after over 40 years apart from middle school. Anyhow, ideally (IMO) the 130 is the grain best all around matched to the .270. I’ve been shooting the.270 exclusively since 1976. Shot all brands and a variety of grains as well. Hornady factory rounds are (again IMO) the best for factory rounds. If you reload, IMR 4350 is great for it. It likes it near max powder loads. My primers do show definite signs of flattering but nothing worry some. Sorry for the essay 😁, just like to be informative as much as possible. And no I haven’t chronographed my loads as I don’t have a chronograph.

Yeah, the difference in diameter is miniscule. The main difference is the .270 has inadequate barrel twist. If it was made with 8" twist, there wouldn't be all of these objections.

Thanks for the review. I too am a fan of the Winchester 270, and while I have strayed to the 7mm mag and 30-6, I found my way back to the 270 as my favorite. Back in the 80's I started off using the Sierra Game King 130 gr. Some years later, I found that my load over the chronometer was producing 3100 fps. The 270 Winchester model 70 with that load never let me down. With deer and wild boar drooping in their tracks or not making more than 10 steps. Then in the mid 90's I changed to Nosler 130 gr Ballistic tip with the same load. I found it a bit more accurate, and just as devastating to critter in it's energy transfer. The only time I use anything different is when hunting critters over 300 lb. I change to 130 gr Nosler Partition with the same hand load These deep penetrating rounds, do the trick for elk size critters. Wish the right shot placement, the Winchester 270 will take any North American critter and most of the African

Thanks, I love Mauser 98's as well. This rifle is one I built from a K98 action. The stock was a blank from Wenig. I shaped it, sanded it' finished it with Tru-Oil, then checkered it with 18 line per inch patterns. I altered the bolt, installed a swing safety that I got from Brownell's, and added a barrel from Brownell's as well. I then had it hot blued. It is simply a sporterized Mauser in .270 winchester. The Interarms Mark X is a fine rifle, my uncle has one chambered in 30/06. It is a real shooter, loaded with Hornady 165 grain bullets, and H414 powder. My late aunt and I picked it out for him many years ago. It prints 1/2 inch groups consistently.

The only thing they had in stock was the new sierra factory ammo with the 140 game changers for $70 a box😓. Upon re-zeroing to my delight I found a legit one hole 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring .11 moa. Followed that up with a .13 moa 3 shot group.
