The 2024 F1 Silly Season is OVER

Спорт

Alex Albon's Williams extension took away the biggest piece of the F1 puzzle left. Where could the other 11 drivers go?
In this video, we dive deep into the unexpected twist in the F1 2024 Silly Season, where Alex Albon's multi-year deal with Williams has brought early stability to the driver market, reducing the anticipated drama. We explore how Albon's decision impacts major teams like Mercedes and Red Bull, removing a key candidate from their line-ups and influencing their strategies. Williams faces significant challenges despite securing Albon, including weight issues with their FW46 car that are affecting their performance and future prospects. We also examine the uncertain futures of drivers like Kevin Magnussen, whose position at Haas looks bleak due to internal team changes, and Valtteri Bottas, who faces challenges at Alfa Romeo (Sauber/Audi) amidst team restructuring. Additionally, we consider potential moves for drivers such as Logan Sargeant, who might transition to IndyCar due to limited opportunities in F1 after showing interest in the series before joining in 2023; and Sergio Perez, whose position at Red Bull remains more secure thanks to his consistent performance and market appeal as well as Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda doing the business at Racing Bulls VCARB. Join us for an in-depth analysis of the current F1 driver market, the potential surprises ahead, and what it all means for the future of the sport! Don't miss out on the latest F1 insights and predictions.

I have more sympathy for Sainz than I do for many other drivers on the grid. It’s pretty crappy to be booted out of the top team where you’re performance is on par with the best drivers on the grid because Hamilton has swooped in. I get why Ferrari would do that but to be left with Sauber as your next best option is really quite bad. You can speculate about the potential of the Audi take over but at best it’s a serious demotion for the short to mid term. I feel like he’s earned more than that but any better option seem like 1 year deals if they exist at all.

I predicted Alex staying at Williams. I just don't think he really wanted to go back to Red Bull, they pulled him up to the senior team way too fast and barely gave him any mental guidance on how to deal with all that pressure. He ended up miserable at Red Bull. He seems much happier at Williams, where the team appreciate him much more. Mercedes doesn't seem that good of an option either given that they really want Antonelli in that seat by 2026 and with everyone locking down contracts long-term if you are out of a seat at the start of 2026 you aren't going to get another seat in F1. Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren don't have seats available and the choice to stay at Williams doesn't seem that bad.

I like to point out to people in China Ricciardo didn't do any better than he usually did he still didn't make Q3 nor was he looking likely to get points. Tsunoda just had an awful weekend where he went from making Q3 to suddenly being 19th. Miami sprint qualifying and the sprint itself has been the one highlight of Ricciardo's season. Too soon to say he's turned a corner, and so far Imola is not looking good for him.

IMO, if Toto really wants Kimi to join Mercedes, let him join next year. Mercedes is currently in a "2019/2020 Mclaren" Phase. Their Car is still in the midfield, bring Antonelli now and let him get used to the 2025 car and have his input on the 2026 car. Williams need a long term driver just like Alex. No driver would want to join a team just as a stop gap. Personally I would love Carlos to join Mercedes but if it's only a one year contract, I'd understand why he won't consider them.

Slight problem with that... Mercedes may no longer have the controlling majority (Toto and his buddy Jimmy are calling the shots) but if they don't get a star driver "selling their cars", the boardroom in Stuttgart might well be turning their backs on Brackley and "Ineos F1" (neither Russell nor Antonelli have the required "marketability"). They still fully own the engine side of things and they can take this operation to another outfit in a heartbeat... McLaren worked well for them in the past and Zak and his Bahraini overlords would love nothing better. ;)

I do think Sargeant is now better than Albon and Zhou is matching Bottas now. In my opinion, beat Albon on default in Melbourne and was barely off his time in the damaged Williams in Japan before the damaged Williams proved too hard to drive and he went off (I put that down to the car) before crushing Albon in the sprint and just losing out to him in main qualifying in Miami. For me, they're tied right now, but Sargeant's better performances this year have been more recent than Albon's. With Zhou, he outperformed Bottas in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and China, half the races, like Sargeant outperformed Albon in Australia, Japan and Miami.

Their sources say it's not signed yet, but almost a done deal. Although Carlos indicated something else in the press conference (maybe just expressing frustration about Mercedes' waiting game) it seems like the door to Red Bull has closed, which would also explain why Albon has resigned with Williams.

I think the problem is that Sainz and Albon were competing for the same slots, but Carlos had better chances (regardless of what slim they were), so better to wrap up the Williams contract instead of waiting that a deal with Sainz would not happen.

I will say 2 comments in which I hardly ever do...but here goes. 1. Carlos agent should of proposed an Audi 2025 contract for 50 million u.s.d and 75 million on an additional 4 year deal with podium incentives to top out at 100 million usd per year on a 5 yr. Deal. With the Ambassador roles drawing sponsors money for endorsement s that would equal the 150 million euro deal Max has been offered with Red Bull. A no cut no loop hole would ensure proper cenegery to solidify Audi as a top team in F1 werks teams. Holding out for A Red Bull deal will never come . Being a German American with close ties to Europe I was snobby about coming to America for F1 events. Then Austin built a tier 3 track for F1 exclusively so I was wood by my favorite sport coming to the 🇺🇸. NOW that F1 is exploited the American market with tracks like Miami and Vegas which are just for show races. We as Americans want our own team. Let Andretti in and share the wealth you make off of us in the American market.

Checo's sitting pretty right now, as long as he keeps 2nd in the drivers championship... All of that lost in one weekend for now. Curious if he can turn it around cause if McLaren & Ferrari keep this up I can see him end up 4th or 5th in the championship.

I like this channel. I like how You are a visionary who isn't scared to say Your unpopular opinion. 2 years ago i predicted that Perez would be able to improve very much, close to compete with Max for the championship. Even though it couldn't be further from what happened later, I still very fondly look back on this. The hours spent debating, arguing and spewing our crazy opinions and predictions with my friend were inreplacable for me and I love that You're promoting sharing those crazy predictions and unpopular opinions You believe in. Ocon taking the Audi drive would not dump Sainz out of F1. Alpine would jump for him. Williams would jump for him. Haas would jump for him. He basically has carte blanche of the teams in the bottom half of F1. So long as a seat is available down there he can wait to find out what happens at Red Bull for as long as he wants.

Zhou to HAAS is not going to happen. HAAS has one eye firmly on marketing their CNC machines. Unfortunately HASS machines are at the lower end of the mid range machine tools which is not going to be popular to the Chinese market which wants either high quality European machines or would use their own brands for the mid range. So of all the teams HAAS would see the least value in Zhou.

It's impressive Drugovich, Pourchaire, Maloney etc don't have a seat with so many drivers just making up numbers. Riccardo was supposed to be destroying Tsunoda. Bottas no longer has any shine. without mentioning K-mag, Stroll, Zhou and Sargeant. And I put Tsunoda on the list. But I'll wait for Lawson to enter. If he destroys Tsunoda, it will be clear that this rise has more to do with bad teammates than the Japanese's quality.

I do have to say Williams should blame themselves for signing Logan Sargeant in 2023 they should of let him stay in F2 for one more year so he could improved more. They should of phone call Marcus Ericsson because honestly Marcus Ericsson would of gotten P8/P9 in Australia given Albon was up there before he crashed and would of gotten P8 in Canada given Albon was P7. Also Marcus Ericsson would of gotten P10 in Italy given the straight line speed of the Williams car.
