    Bought my MT-10 new in 2019. Now on 30k+ miles with daily commutes, week-long tours, track days and riding in all weather, all the time. What a bike. Sintered road/race brake pads restore a lot of initial bite and feel-the stock pads are shocking. Rear suspension is set up soft from factory, so (correctly) firming up preload, damping and rebound makes the front end more planted. Super reliable, agile for its size, fast as hell, and a crossplane howl to die for. No plans to sell any time soon…

    These are incredible bikes, especially when you factor in the price and the bullet proof reliability. Brakes get better being bedded in. And a possible fluid flush including the ABS system gets you the rest of the way. I'm constantly bleeding my friend's brakes on brand new bikes and getting out an insane amount of air. Something to consider. Earlier MT 10's had pretty bad brakes but Yamaha seems to have sorted this out now. But what a bike. For what you get for the amount of money these costs, it's hard not to want one.

    I have an all black 2019 I bought new. You reminded me about the brakes. They got a LOT better after padding in. I solo tour mine with Shad luggage and a Madstad windshield. It is my little pal and I love it so much. But it is also frustrating because I’ve traded bikes every few years for a long time, and now, this bike is so good, I can’t justify leaving it. 🤔 The dark side is its ferocious power at higher RPM. This bike is for “mature” audiences only. 😅

    Outstanding review. Yamaha put all their bikes on a weight diet. The result is fun fun fun. All the reviews I have seen for the MT-10 and MT09 have been awesome. I completely agree about the far superior ergonomics of a naked, standard rider triangle, bike. Just so much less work and so much more fun to live with. With the accessories catalog you can turn it into a sweet little solo tourer too. OEM windscreen and side bags or a top case. I'm thinking of trading in a S 1000XR for one. I'd go standard also for the black version. In 5 years I've used dynamic suspension setting twice, road is still plenty stiff for most riding.

  • @johnfriend862

    I've been riding for 45 years, and over the last 5 years have had to make some serious changes. The first was I had to get rid of my ZX-14R, I hated to but it was just too hard on my neck and knees. It was OK though, because I still had my GoldWing to cruise around on, comfort with cruise (I call it ticket control) and a decent stereo. Unfortunately my knees and ankles finally said ENOUGH, time to get rid of the 850 pound beast. I was starting to get scared at stop lights about catching that much weight, I've abused my body a lot over my life. So, one of the toughest decisions I've made, last month I sold the Wing and got a 2023 MT-10. The seat could be a bit more comfortable, but the riding position is great and it handles like a bicycle compared to the Wing. I don't know that I'd spend the extra 2 or 3 thousand for the SP model, the standard MT is expensive enough. My short list was the Honda CB1000, the Kawasaki Z900R, and the MT-10. While I was making up my mind the Kawasaki sold, so that narrowed my decision down. I decided the electronics and cruise control on the MT-10 were worth the extra $$ over the Honda. The bike is a blast to ride, I never thought I could be comfortable on something as "small" as a 1000 but so far I love this bike. Oh, and mine is the solid black. One other complaint is the rear view mirrors. I have very broad shoulders and I couldn't see anything behind me, but my view of the lanes next to me was fine. I went to a set of bar end mirrors and that made a huge difference. It's nice to see that the car coming up behind you isn't stopping, or the car behind you is a cop. This bike will get you in trouble quickly!!! The quick shifter is better than I could have imagined, and once the brakes bed in they are superb.

    @johnfriend862

    Жыл бұрын

    @@colinm1325 Obviously they're two totally different bikes. I'm enjoying the MT-10, it really handles, accelerates and brakes well. My only real issues are seat comfort and the rear view mirrors. The bar end mirrors make the bike look much better, and now I can actually see. Yes, the bike is a bit wider, but that's not an issue. The seat will have to take some time, it might get more comfortable as it breaks in and my butt may get used to it. If not I'll start looking at aftermarket seats. So far because of weather I've only got a couple of hundred miles on it. This is one of the smallest (wheelbase & weight) bikes I've ever owned, I've had at least 6 V-Max's, several Wings, a couple BMW K1600's, a Ducati Diavel, and a couple KZ1000's back in the day. I've ridden almost everything with 2 wheels. The MT-10 is a hoot. The cross plane crank does give it an interesting feel under about 3,000 RPM, almost like a twin. Then it spools up and revs like a maniac. At half the weight of the Wing it's like riding air. So far, with no adjustment to the suspension, it rides great. I may need to give it a hair more rear pre-load. as I'm not a little guy, but even out of the box it's been fine.

    if you keep the MT-10 under 7500 its a pussycat above the bike opens up I think its a good fun bike one thing I struggle with is the engine braking I dont know if the engine shuts off under decel or what Moore Mafia flash block off plates it runs and sounds very nice I also brought the forks up per Dave Moss still stable at speed tips in quicker now I have several bikes the MT-10 is my favorite

    I got a tune they reduced the engine braking. It helped. They wanted to eliminate it. But I told them to leave some in. Now I wish I’d listened. It is 2 different bikes above and below 7500. You nailed it.

    I always advise anyone that truly is just starting out on motorcycle to get a very small dirt bike and learn to ride in the dirt even a 100cc single could be PERFECT. Everything your body learns on that little bike is directly applicable to larger heavier bikes the ,main thing is MUSCLE MEMORY where your BRAIN is unconsiously learning to reverse throttle twist and apply brakes to stop ....cause that HAS to become automatic and by all means take motorcycle courses! Of COURSE! But practicing with a small dirt bike can up ones confidence and ability expotentially faster than anything else I can think of! a little race track after you have built confidence can REALLY improve your raw riding ability fast also... something about trying to go faster is not only addictive fun but it really starts your brain learning the physics of it all.

    I remember Kenny Roberts teaching yound racers (the cream of the crop winning young racers that is) on little 75cc dirt bikes... I think they were maybe XR75 or similar ...I mean think about that! He was able to reach them the tricks of the trade on such a diminutive bike because? Its all the same physics whether having huge horsepower at life ending speeds OR small horsepower at relatively very safe speeds. Because with a little bike you can experiment to learn what works and what does not ...things you should probably not want to try at crazy speeds or with ridiculously heavier and more powerful machines

    It depends on what you're used to and how tall you are. I'm 5' 6"! I find mine is like a comfy sports bike but I'd still like 20-30mm bar risers at some point. If you're over 6 foot then you might find yourself a bit scrunched up and feel it on longer rides but bar risers can work wonders on that too. They're epic bikes in every way and can live with most in the twisties despite what you may have heard off people who don't know any better. Just get one, you'll never regret it 🥳
