The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach E Is Still A Competitive Pony Car Inspired EV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The controversial #FordMustangMachE was one of the first true competitors to the Tesla Model Y when it was introduced a couple years ago. The latest #MustangMachE has changed very little, but for those of you wanting an EV that offers style, tech, and a premium touch, #Ford has managed to keep the #MachE competitive over the years. We expect this car to possibly get a big refresh in 2025.

    @@DieselDork11 I have a premium RWD with the michelin all season tires. The tread still looks decent. I don't floor it everywhere but I do stay in unbridle mode 99% of the time. I'll probably look at getting the tires replaced a few months into next year. I'm pretty sure these are EV focused tires but I'm going to replace them with some Hankook tires. I'm hoping to get 245mm width tires like the GT models when I do switch tires and get the GT performance edition rims. If you don't feel the need to floor it after every red light I think you will be fine.

    I own a First Edition model and its hands down the best car I've ever owned (I've owned 10 gas cars and 7 EVs). I cross shopped it with every other EV in the price range and although there are other cheaper competitors, it's the only one that did everything reasonably well and met all my picky requirements in a car and EV: It's comfortable, has rear cross-traffic alerts, radar-based ADAS, Blue Cruise which operates very well and is fantastic for road trips, dedicated buttons on the steering wheel for quick access to all functions, a quiet cabin, good build quality, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, a guage cluster, a volume knob (these days that's rare), 1-pedal drive that you can turn on or completely off, and is tied to profiles of each driver (so when you start the car it automatically sets to your preference), memory heated seats, heated steering wheel, and a 360 top down camera that pops up automatically when in reverse or when getting too close to objects while going forward (which is great for parking lots and pulling in and out of my garage). No other EV in this segment has all of those features (and the Model Y has almost none of them). We love it so much we're keeping it even though we thought we'd only have it a couple years then move on to something else.

    The problem with the Mach E AWD long range is the battery is 21% bigger than the Model Y AWD long range and most other competitors. That is part of what makes it more expensive. But this also means around 20% more time to charge on a charging network that is not as dependable or in many cases not as fast as the Tesla Supercharging network. When Ford and other make EVs get access to the Tesla Supercharger network it should really help the case for a Mach E. The Mach E has far more charisma and style than the Model Y, and feels better built too.

    The fact that there are so many sitting on the lots (here in Vegas and Henderson) is concerning. Also the thought of no haggling and spending 2-3 hours in a dealership make the thought of buying Tesla or Rivian far more inviting than going to a Ford dealership. Order online, pay online, go to the service center and pick it up, so simple, so easy. I don't have the time or patience for the dealership dance the major car manufacturers make you go through. I do really like the look of the Mach-E and it would be perfect for my needs, but until they get rid of the haggling and dealer markups it's a hard NO for me. Great review once again! Love it.

I also googled what she charged me it was a fake sticker they put on the window $600 for that. Smh. She refunded me the $500 though, after I said I'll return the car.... I think if you have the ability to charge at home, you should save money charging it every year over a V8? I think electrics are expensive to insure but I have not really compared EVs verses V8 sports cars in terms on insurance... I don't really consider the Mach E a sports car, but more as a sporty SUV. If you abuse tires, you pay for more tires. Overall, I think electrics are more expensive up front but hopefully over the lifetime is more on par cost wise with gas cars?

    Just got one. One of the key reasons, these weren’t appealing was that the pricing got out of hand. Now, with Ford incentives, it’s competitive and it’s moving off lots. I got a GT, no range issues, getting about 250-300 miles range, probably about 275 effective. Love the driving dynamics, suspension can be a little unsettled around bumpy roads, but it’s a great ride. A big plus for me? Also having a brain and not handing my cash to Tesla :).

    Nice straight forward review. Ford should have just called it Mach-E. Most people just call it the Mach-E. They could have still used the same styling inspired by the Mustang, but drop the Mustang name. It is sad they make these in Mexico. That is a typical move for any corporation these days. For me, I have more of an issue with Ford Motor Company. They have been topping the annual recall charts for the past three years. Farley seems hot and cold on the EV programs at Ford. The dealers seems luke warm about EVs. If I was looking for an alternative to Tesla, I would be looking into the Hyundai Group of EVs. If my choices was ID4 or Mach-E, I would likely go Mach-E. If my choices was BZ4X, Aryia, Solterra, Blazer EV, or Mach-E, I would likely go Mach-E. I would take Model Y over all of them, but I get people are seeing so many Model Ys around they might want something different. With that said, Tesla software works really well. That is a very important feature for EVs, well, just about any new car these days. Hope Ford gets their EV program more support. Would like to see them succeed. It is better for consumers if there are many companies competing.

Driving 750miles is easy with the long range model. When the kids have to have a break, we charge. Driving in the mountains in cold weather with snow is no problem either. I can agree that the Model Y is kind of an uninspiring blob, but money talks. And I just don't think the Mach-E commands a several thousand dollar price premium over the Tesla... Especially now that it's got no tax credit. Unless Ford brings an extended range, AWD model out within spitting distance of $50k, I'm just not going to be interested. And once the Model Y gets it's Juniper refresh, it'll be game over unless Jim has more updates up his sleeve. Seeing 2024 be a carryover was really disappointing. No work on ventilated seats as you said, but also no heat pump? It's just not all that exciting anymore.

    I remember when this and the Lightning debuted and people were quick in stating Ford did it correctly, before Ford came out to the public and admitted to losing money on every transaction. A big reason why Ford is losing money is because much like the Ford Lightning, these are rebadged ICE chassis. They tried to take the cheap route by using modified ICE platforms for their fully electric products, which in the long run, ended up being really expensive to stay competitive. *gm* on the other hand spent the money to develop bespoke EV platforms for their EVs which also allowed for them to do much more as far as engineering goes and that’s how you get supertrucks like the Hummer EV. Now just after a couple model years of the Lightning and Mach-E, Ford has gone back to the drawing board and are redeveloping these vehicles from the ground up as EVs - as they should have from the beginning.

  • @rusticroads

    @rusticroads

    6 ай бұрын

    The Mach-E is based on an ICE platform? Please enlighten us on which ICE model it’s based on… As far as the F150 goes, Ford took the most popular truck in the world and electrified it, to great success. Is it limited by its legacy chassis? Sure, but that legacy platform has a huge ecosystem that is compatible with it, giving truck owners access to everything that the ICE owners have enjoyed for years. If you want a different truck, there’s nothing stopping you from buying a Rivian, except for the lackluster support network and the chance that the company may not exist in 5 years. The Cybertruck is going to be hard to get for at least another year, so just choose what scenario works best for you. Don’t fall for the armchair industry analysis stupidity. Every company has R&D costs that must be recovered. The Mach-E and the Lightning are very good vehicles, especially for the first efforts that they are. There is no perfect vehicle, just the right vehicle for you. Schoolyard taunts don’t do anyone any good, so they are best avoided at all costs.
