    @@SRG7796 I think the hate is blown out of proportion by a generation of “car enthusiasts” that likes to whine at the slightest change. I’m not saying it’s the best looking car, but I still think it’s a good looking car maybe with the exception of the rear bumper. If anything people should complain about the weight increase. The trend of weight increase is inevitable but I’d worry about that first before worrying about a design that’s different from usual. I can understand the hate if they followed the same pattern as the M3/4 but that’s obviously not the case.

    You are right on a lot of points. The gear ratio does not offer the same zip as the Comp and is more suited for track. Lightning in a bottle used to happen so readily with the Comp. I haven’t found it in this one yet especially with those super sticky tires. It is also too muscular and not as nimble in city. The interior is much improved however I wish they had kept a needles gauge cluster for what might be one of the the last manual productions.

It’s strange, but it seems as though Caddy makes a better M-Car these days. Bigger screen(just because it’s so comically small) on the CT4 and I’d actually rather have it. The old M2 comp wasn’t exactly light at 3,600 lbs with the manual. This New M2 with the MT is 3750 lbs as IND reported. That’s only a ~150lb difference and it has the same transmission the old one had. I’m sure crash safety and platform sharing is the cause of the increased weight.

  • @MilesPerHr

    @MilesPerHr

    Жыл бұрын

    BMW quotes the curb weight of the 2023 M2 with an MT at 3,814 lbs. Not sure where you're sourcing the 3,750 lbs with an MT. A 214 lbs difference is noticeable for a vehicle weighing under 4,000 lbs. Increased crash safety, platform sharing, a new engine, etc. all contribute, but it's also the longer, wider platform that make this new model behave differently from the old. As I said in the video, it feels more like you're driving an M4 (for better or worse).

    The thing with the cayman is that if you want to add options the car will be close to 100k, so i wouldn't considered that car a competitior. The c8 corvette is the same thing, you need the z51 package to be able to track the car, add more options like magneride and for the interior, the car will end up costing almost 90k(with the lt2 options just to try to match the quality interior). Also the corrvette you cant get it at msrp, which is a bommer. I will put the new mustang darkhorse as competitor because is a track car, almost the same price( with options) and is a 2+2 seater(the cayman and corvette are not).

  • @MilesPerHr

    Comparing vehicles based on options and what they're going for at dealers doesn't make much sense. This M2 was $75K with options and who knows what dealers will charge (and they'll all vary based on the part of the country/world you're in). The only fair measure is MSRP. I mentioned in the video that there were a lot of competitors, and I agree the Mustang Dark Horse is one of them. If I mentioned all of them, it would be a 45 minute video :)

    I find the new BMW M2 an overall impressive automobile. Miles, am I seeing things or are car hoods getting longer again? Some new models from other manufactures also take-up plenty of extra space ahead of the windshield. Excessive hood length always seems to come at the expense of back seat room. If car designs are returning to the long hoods of the 70's - can the return of bell bottom pants be just around the corner? Otherwise the new M2 occupies almost as much area as the M4 Coupe, only with less space for the rear seats. Thanks Miles. 👍👍

    i love this new, boxy styling of M2 over new gen 2 coupe for sure..... and maybe even over previous m2.... too bad its not a 4 season daily unlike M240i xdrive... but again, styling of regular 2 coupe is not that nice..... btw those carbon seats in new M2 are overkill.... also no physical HVAC is a bummer.

    6 cylinder cars are popular here in Europe, rarer with a manual. Nothing special about those so no reason to not complain. I have to daily it and put a toddler in the back seat so the M2 is really the only good option for me in this price range. If I didn't need the back seat I would 100% get the corvette. I don't care if there is a lot of them that's not why I buy performance cars. I buy them to beat the snot out of them an drive to work everyday like I stole it lol.

    For me personally, looks don’t seem to be that big of an issue even when compared to older BMWs. I don’t know about others but BMWs in general haven’t looked particularly special imo since the beginning of the Bangle design era. It honestly took out the quirkiness from the preceding BMW designs which were more boxy and were the best examples of boxy designs. While this M2 isn’t the best implementation of a boxier design, I honestly appreciate the weird quirks on the design. I kinda prefer it over the F87 and it’s really short rear end. As mentioned in the video, more people may like the new M2 but it’s not as lovable. I think that’s the whole strategy BMW is going with to get it to sell more. The design in itself might play a role given how much people talk about, albeit the design is more likeable now than the M3/4. Another funny thing I noticed is looking at how the Supra went from a larger more muscular GT car to a small yet sleek sports car, while the M2 goes the opposite way…and we all know which one out of the Supras people still rave about lol. On a serious note, I think M2 will be more appreciated in the coming years as a good sports even if it isn’t a good M2. I think we’ve gone past the need to compare a new sports car model to its previous generations, we’re better off appreciating it as is in an age where every characteristic of a good sports car is being shoved into an SUV or a commuter car to create more buzz. The lack of comparison to older models I mentioned isn’t just for the M2, this applies to other cars as well, like the new Z and Supra.

    I’m of the unpopular opinion that this looks better than the F87 generation. Previous generation had a blob of a rear end, and a front end that went in the completely opposite direction of the rear, having an excess amount of points and sharps angles. There was zero connection between the rear and front styling of the F87. F87 also sat very high visually. Admittedly, the F87 needed just a few things changed visually to be perfect, creating a connection between the rear and front styling.

    Handsome, but larger, heavier and less practical? I'm not the target market. Why is the smallest/sportiest BMW moving closer towards the M4 rather than staying true to it's place in the hierarchy. Absolutely hate that it looks like we're driving behind a TV screen. I doubt people pay this much to want to feel like they're in a racing simulator. Great car, just not as special as the former.

    The existence of the M2 makes the m4 irrelevant. The m2/3/4 are all using the exact same engine, with minor differences between them. The Supra is using the same platform, and it’s almost $20k cheaper than the M2. So my question is, for the $20k difference between the Supra and M2, you can easily get more power than you’d ever get from the stock M4 at $100k+. So why buy the m4? Why not just get an M2 or Supra and tune them? If you’d like the sedan I can understand the reason behind the M3, but even then it’s still a jump from the m2 and there’s no difference between the M3 and m4 other than price. I can see a case for the M4 if it had a different engine like the one out of the M550 but the new BMW cars, across the board, drive the same, they’re all cookie cutter from the same mold.

    BMWs Mexican studio isn’t good. I have an e92 daily and looked at this as 4 series is terribly expensive and we don’t finance cars in Europe privately, we use money we actually have or live within our means. And 2 series is too much, it’s cheaply made, terrible headlights, previous one was just a smaller 3 series, which also was cheaply made as it competed with Passat mainly, but it had the features and 2 series did too. This is just bad, big pieces of plastic on doors, little trimming. Less features than the previous 2 series. I’m going with a used Mercedes C216 S class coupe, it costs as much and is actually a good car.
