Having not raced in over two months, It is amazing how strong he was at the end of this grueling mile and a half especially after being shuffled back second to last and then forced out "6" wide. He passed them all and was running down the winner but ran out of racetrack!

Secretariat does hold the record for 1.5 miles at 2:24, it's not a world record , as a horse named Twighlight Eclipse ran it in 2:22 at the Pan American Stakes, in March 23/2013. Difference was that Secretariat ran on dirt, and Twighlight Express ran it on turf, but 2 blazing fast times. Also I believe AP Indy ( Seattle Slew's son) ran it in 2:26, as well as Easy Goer in 2:26, in 1989. Really a horse that didn't do much else actually has the fastest time ever in the 1 .5 mile, is Twightlight Eclipse. You can google this and see the race, like I did. Secretariat was a beast though, and probably could have shaved off a couple seconds if pushed. The Pan American Stakes was run in 2013, at Santa Anita Park.
