This really is the first mass-produced, lower-priced EV for the masses. I don't think Nissan gets enough credit for that.

@@rkgsd The model S was announced in 2009 and first delivered in 2012 so the Leaf has it beat. Tesla was founded in 2003 and the Roadster came out in 2008 but only made like ~150. The Leaf was the all time best selling electric car in the world until the Model 3 passed it in Dec 2019

Wouldn't that actually be chevy? Or does taking them all back and squashing them disqualify? I can see that, taking them back was a rotten thing to do. And squashing them was downright criminal.

I bought a used 2019 40kWh Leaf SV with 6k miles after it came off a one year lease, and I am very happy with it. Buying it used is a good deal because they basically depreciate about $7k within a year because you can't get the tax credit on used Leafs. It also still had 2 years left of the 3-year factory warranty. As mentioned in the video, it's perfect as a second car in a household (we have a Subaru Forester for long trips) for running around the local area. Also, CHADEMO battery thermal management is not an issue, since I never take it on long trips and can easily charge it at home on my 240V line in my garage. It's also fun to drive, with quick and smooth acceleration. I wish the steering was tighter, as it definitely feels soft in the curves. One more plus with the Leaf, I am not aware of any history of issues with battery fires like the Chevy Bolt. Overall, it you want to dip your toes into the EV world, but can't afford a Tesla, a second generation (2018 on) used Leaf is a very good choice for your first electric car.

I just bought a 40kw 2023 sv for $42k because these days a 2018 sv is $40k here in Canada. Used costs more than new in some cases, if you have a 21 or 22 people are reselling them for 5k over new.

Indiana here. Zero promotions. Basically the only lease deal on the base trim of the bigger battery pack is: $420/mo for 36 months with a 10k annual mileage cap and $2100 due at signing. That's a terrible deal tbh.

I drive a 2018 Leaf SL. Could not be happier. No negative issues. I live in South Florida where almost every day the temp was 120 Deg F in the sun. Never had any temperature problems with the battery. I don’t know why people keep talking about this.

Good job keeping an open mind and being fair. So many people like to shit on the Leaf because of the battery cooling. It's true that is a major fault, but that really only effects long distance travel, and the Leaf is really great as a daily driver. Many people have gotten big discounts when buying a leaf. I bought a top trim SV+ in 2020 and got $17.5k off with all the discounts/rebates. Which meant that the car was more like $25k. Pretty cheap in my mind. I've taken a few mid-distance trips with the Leaf and it does fine. I've done 350 miles in a day and it was totally fine, no thermal issues on the second charge.

I found it funny you kept recommending the base S model, while giggling over what the e+ delivered. 🤗 Driving my 3rd Leaf, two leases, but sin of sins, bought this one, a 2019 SL e+. Why? Because it was a new 2019, well after the 2020's were out. With dealer, state and fed incentives it netted in at about $28k. I have a nice long range vehicle, so why the e+? Because of the once a week charging the 240 mile range gives us, with only home charging, it should easily last the ten plus years I plan to keep it. That makes it better than the cheap lease for me. That, and the "sleeper" off the line acceleration. Love smoking those loud buzz boxes, and the look on their faces when I let them by and they see a 72 year old grandpa at the wheel. No, it is not the Jag XKR I had, but still fun in it's own way.

Its always surprising to read comments from older members of the KZread community. There is such a huge disparity between you boomers as some of you are so cosmopolitan with your technoliteracy and other like my dad who is barely 62 can't operate the remote of a dumb TV that's connected to an antenna. I often wonder if it has to do with rejection of new technology or some sort of anti young people ignorance that have to do with associating new tech with younger people. Good to see you being an early adopter though! I'm 25 and still drive ICE unfortunately. Can't really afford EVs get and tbh, I'm not sure if the tech is mature enough for me yet. I'm the next few years though, I'm sure EV tech will mature and infrastructure will become way better.

Was hoping the "significant change" would've been active thermal management :(

Yep. Given that rapid battery degredation is the calling card of the Leaf, you'd think nissan would get their shit together and spend the $200 to put in a thermal loop. But nope. Just like their fatal fetish for Jatco CVT, they refuse to fix poor design deficiencies and then wonder why sales are tanking....

You're right, but it's never going to happen. Muxsan in the Netherlands, offers a CCS2 and a 22 kW conversion kit. Costs a lot though. A pity Nissan messed up. Here in Germany there's a YT channel that reports the monthly EV sales Top 20. The Leaf hasn't appeared on that list for the last 12 months at least. They messed up big time.

@@tonys9413 I disagree. The Leaf offers decent interior space, good trunk volume and (depending on trim level) very good Level 2 driver assistance. The build quality is fairly good as well. The cockpit is dated though.

We have a 2018 Leaf which we road trip frequently in the winter (daughter's volleyball) using a combo of EA, EVgo and destination chargers. It does take some planning but totally doable.

Just did a 500+ mile trip in summer HOT Florida in my 2022 Leaf SL +. Almost all highway. 3 DC fast charges, never hit the red on the battery temp. Met another Leaf owner who drove from California to Florida. BTW, kits for conversion to CCS charging are on the way.

I got a 2020 LEAF 3.ZERO e+ Limited Edition with 62kWH. Very happy as it’s big improvement from my 30kWH Tekna.

LOVE that color!! The Leaf is a very under-appreciated car for the VAST majority of folks.

I was on the reservation list for the original Leaf and leased a second one when the first ran out. When that lease expired in 2017, Nissan dropped the ball, and I went with the Chevy Bolt which was a game changer with double the range. I’m on my second Chevy Bolt now and have done some great road trips with it, but I have to say the Leaf was a lot more comfortable to drive. Definitely would consider it for a second around town car. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yea only problem with the Chevy bolt is that it catches on fire . The Chevy bolt has something common with Samsung note 7 🔥

@@Mr.unknownx1 Well, it doesn't catch fire right away. You get to drive it awhile first, then it catches fire, then they fix it, and then you get to drive it some more.

@@Mr.unknownx1 very few of them have caught fire. I took mine on a 7700 mile road trip last year, before it was under recall. I charged it up to 100% every night and ran it down below 10% multiple times a day without any issues. Now it looks like I’ll get a new battery, and it will be worth more than I paid for it new.

Sounds like you got a good one! Hope you carry a fire extinguisher anyway. And don’t charge it in your house, as Chevy suggests. And don’t charge it above 70% or run it below 20%. Also recommended by Chevrolet.

Bought mine new on an insane discount. SL Plus for $24k after sales tax and tax credit. Honestly quite a luxurious nice 200HP EV that is so comfortable and fun to drive. Plenty of range for managing cross metropolis drives and long journeys into the countryside. Plus happy that I have none of the battery recall issues of the main competitor, the Bolt. Really like the 360 degree camera, leather interior, decent sound system (better than ID4), adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, Android Auto.

I only wish they would use the drivetrain of the LEAF with a much nicer (sportier) design. How about a 390 Z, thinking of the Datsun 280 Z. Is my midlife crisis showing? 😜

Great hands on review with plenty of insights, thank you! I’ve been searching for a used Leaf for a couple months but the car shortage has made it a real challenge. I’m considering a lease on a new Leaf but don’t live in Colorado. The lease deals you mention sound great, is that statewide, Ft Collins only or…? I have a Leaf 2021 S Plus, which I got this year on a lease. It's been really great. One of the best for city driving and short trip car. Actually it's good for 2 Fast Charge, in a trip which it can get to around 350 miles range. I feel it's a very under rated car. Price is still an issue but over all one of the most reliable maintance free car that I have. In Florida we have many Chademo chargers and we have 2 Nissan dealers that have free ones. Max I have gotten on a 100 Kwh setup is 77 for my testing, normal I get is 44. But I can't say no to free...

avoid fast charge if you can. The reasion you don't get 100KW charge rates is because the car's battery SOC and thermal management adjusts it so that your battery life is more than 1 day. That happens in all cars. The main bad reputation the Lefs got on battery life and charge speeds at DC rates came from the car versions without active cooling using a liquid and fan boosting. It seems that the 2020 and newer models have that issue finally resolved? I have seen a small radiator, coolant tank and fan under the hood of a 2020 SL Leaf I test drove recently.

I bought my 2014 SV new. It currently has 35,300 miles on it. It has been a perfect around-town car for me and my wife. The first 4½ years we lived on an island in South Carolina where the maximum speed limit was 45. Since then, we have lived in San Diego County. We have never had an issue with thermal throttling on anything else except tire wear. The battery currently charges 10/12 and we get an average of 70+ miles per charge. Our other car is a 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid which has been perfect for longer trips. I'm going to be looking at the EV6 and GV60 when they come out, but I don't feel a need to get a new car at this time.

I just purchased a Leaf SL Plus. I am excited. A solar system on my house including a Tesla Power Wall Battery backup, and the Leafis a part of my overall plan to be energy independent. What sold me on this car is how quiet it is. Very quiet. Being able to charge my car and drive around town without spending a ton of $$$ on gasoline is amazing. I wanted a small, car, not a bloated car just to run errands, and drive locally. I do want to take the drive on a trip, if nothing else to see how easy or difficult it is to drive an electric car. I could have bought a Tesla, but those cars to me are not easy to get in and out of, and are too big. Don't get me wrong, I love BMW etc., but the goal is to not spend money on gasoline. The last fill up on my combustion engine was $50.00. Really? That much money to go to the grocery store or to drive to local places?

I love my leaf! Moved up from a 2015 to a 2020. Significant improvement. Does all our town driving, business errands (leave the big dumb Transit at home a few days a week) and gets me out to a few mtn bike spots. I’ve used dc charging once and that is in line with my once or twice a year average. It’s a great 2nd car.

A Leaf for $70 a month would be very enticing. That's only $2,500 for 3 years! Unfortunately it doesn't look like that kind of deal is available in Nebraska. I wonder if it's possible to sneak one across the border...

InsideEVs is reporting $270 a month for 36 months with $2K as part of Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. I get Colorado has state incentives to make the Leaf cheaper, but not all the way down to $70 with nothing at signing. I'm kinda skeptical

@@TripleZme We do but it's after 15% taxes are added to the pruchase price. So a 50k car is 57.5k and becomes 44.5k after incentives. Still pretty good, but dealerships use the incentives as an excuse to only offer the most expensive trim, saying that the base model isn't available.

I had a 2015 Leaf as my first EV. My husband had a normal gas SUV that we used for trips. Last year we traded in the Leaf for a Model Y and my husband decided to give up his SUV because we can use the Model Y for trips. It’s nice to have only one car now because we’re both retired. And we both love the Y.

Love the way you redacted the speedo. Really admire Nissan for kicking things off with the Leaf but I don't regret putting down a deposit for a Bolt EUV last week.

With the original LG battery system? Or the new "doesn't explode & you can park 50ft nearer to things" battery pack?

We have a 2018 Leaf SV and our use case has been exactly what you suggest. My wife or myself drive it to work and around town. It is our second vehicle. We will probably trade it in at the 3 year mark this winter for an Ioniq 5 or a Q4 Etron. But the Leaf has been a great around town car. Also, it is still holding on to full battery bars. And I live in a HOT climate. We hit 119f this summer. For the 2018s and on, the batteries seem to be holding up better. So far. Thanks!

I've got the 2020 leaf 40kw. Honestly, it's awesome to drive. Handles well and is quite fast. I love the one touch regen breaking. Very happy with the Leaf.

Did he ever mention what mic and noise reduction techniques he was using?

I have had a Nissan Leaf 2018 SV for almost a year now. I only use a standard 120V wall outlet in my garage. I've never even used a charging station before haha. It is a very reliable driving experience!

I just got a 2019 Nissan LEAF S 40 kWh with 11K after getting a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV buyback. I use it primarily for rideshare and so far I'm happy with it, about 4000 miles in! I'm in Minnesota so using heat now. For people in colder climates who drive a decent amount, the SV with All Weather Package comes with the heat pump. I learned that the S with All Weather does not have the heat pump, after the purchase. Either way it's really efficient, I'm getting around 4.7 miles per kWh!

@@Allan_A only if Chevy could keep them from burning up. A complete and utter $2 billion plus dollar disaster. Had a Bolt loaner for a week and loved it, but was terrified to park and charge in garage. Got a Model 3 and never looked back. No one beats Tesla in battery management, safety and charging. Plus, the Model 3 Performance is really really quick. Couldn’t say that about Bolt.

@@alexnutcasio936 hey Alex, there have been more Tesla fires than Chevy Bolt EV fires, including a brand new Model S Plaid that spontaneously combusted. Teslas are nice, but they come with the same basic issues as all EVs. General Motors just badly mishandled their response to the fires, because they are a large corporation. But I wouldn't pay a premium for a Model 3 over a Bolt because for me it's not good value. I put tons of miles on my EVs and I can assure you that the Bolt BMS is top notch, barely had degradation after 146K miles on a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV Premier. And finally, a Chevy Bolt EV is plenty quick! I don't race from light to light, zero need for more acceleration than a Bolt EV or Nissan LEAF offers. And it makes zero sense to compare it to a luxury sports car. As an EV owner you should go argue with BMW M3 owners, instead of with other EV owners who for our own reasons aren't willing to spend $40-60K on basic transportation.

have a 2018 40kwh nissan leaf, got it for $15,500 and has been awesome to daily drive to work. i average about 3.5 miles per kwh on the freeway and overall like 4.1-4.5 if its just around town. its a great car!

have you done a long range trip in a leaf with the 62kwh or 40kwh battery??

Really enjoying my 2018 Leaf as a city car in the Upper Midwest -- no range or heat worries. Haven't needed or really had an opportunity to use ChaDeMo DCFC yet. Haven't *needed* to use public charging at all, but will plug into a J-1772 if there happens to be one where I'm going.

I took mine on a 600 mile trip no problem

I'm praying that Nissan does NOT turn the next-gen Leaf into an SUV / crossover. Hoping it'll still be a practical hatchback, with 270-300 miles of range, CCS charging, analog gauges and switchgear, and a space-saver spare wheel, which is essential here in So. Colorado.

I think they are making it a bit more SUV ish, but it might just be cosmetic probably will be similar overall.

Great video. I'm not in the US so the tag line may not apply to me but I kept learning things. I knew all about the Leafs passive cooling and had heard of 'rapid gate' without it sinking in that this must mean it's unable to lose all of the heat it builds up at a rapid charge before it gets to the next rapid charge?!?!?! Is this correct? Is it THAT bad? The next thing was stopping for the school bus. Is that a thing in America? Finally, you comment on the poor brake feel from the brake by wire system. We've seen (but not felt) similar poor steering with electric assisted steering then I've read that cars will have steer by wire soon. This is all awful, why would manufacturers cripple their cars like this? I presume it saves a few pence per car but so would leaving a wheel off and with much the same result to driving pleasure!

Lucky to find one in that gorgeous copper color. Dealers only stock boring monochrome gray / black / white / silver...

I have the 2018 Leaf with 40kwh battery and that is our main car, long tips and holidays, all on the Leaf and not a problem.

I sold my Leaf because the dealers near me were inept, the chargers at the dealer were usually broken and the A/C struggled or shut down completely in the Texas heat. Traded it in on a Model Y and could not be happier.

Agree on the poor dealer service, but I’m also in Texas and the A/C has been stellar. Doesn’t make sense that your A/C would “shut down” - sounds like you had a bad compressor.

@@MrIbernie I've taken my Leaf to the Nissan dealer per the required warranty check intervals, but their techs are utterly clueless how to do a battery check or anything else - and they won't touch it. They sell these cars and yet the maintenance staff have gone untrained. Nissan should be ashamed at this lack of support. I get the tires rotated and a free car wash out of it.

What kind of maintenance is required on EVs? I realize brakes wear out more frequently? Any service required on the motors, computers, battery...etc I just started checking videos...

The same ($430) in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana. "Buy at Home" payment is $89 with $6799 for S plus.

I can't get over watching these vids since this is my town.

I leased the first 2010 Nissan Leaf and loved that car. But towards the end of my 3 year lease, the battery degradation was significant because I live in the California desert. EVs without active thermal management of their battery pack are a no go for people living in places where temps routinely are over 100 degrees in the garage.

The generation you had the early battery chemistry that degraded much faster. Leafs after 2013 don't show such rapid degradation because they changed the battery type.

I actually feel it's dangerous for EV to be on the market without any temps management for its battery, especially in hot desert regions like Arizona and California. That's why I didn't get one. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Leaf still qualifies for the tax credit after all these years??

We have a 2016 SL 30 kWh pack, purchased it it in 2018 with 15k miles on it, over 46k with 23% battery degradation. Love the car for what we use it for, no long trips, everyday local. Plug it in and adds 25 Miles or range per hour. It's comfortable. From what I have read they are not adding any new Chademo connections to the builds, BUT they are maintaining what they currently have. Kyle, have you heard anything about what Nissan is going to do about the replacement batteries with these old units? When I purchased mine they were about $5k, within 6 months all the crazy stories came out about replacement not being available from Nissan.

My wife and I JUST got (10-30-2021) a 2020 Nissan Leaf SV. We LOVE it and we don't have the home charger, yet. We (well... more me) do plan on taking it on a 800 mile road trip. Hearing about the over heating we might do it EARLY spring or LATE Fall. Currently we JUST use CHAdaMO to charge here at a bank and it does great. No issues so far with EVgo. Can't wait for our trip and we might post a video about it. :)

My daily commute is 80 miles round trip, and, I live in a state that has hot summers (Texas). Would this be a good car for me?

I drive a used 2015 Nissan Leaf. I purchased it for about $7,000 dollars. It has plenty of cargo space and versatility. Because it is not a high end luxury car, I can haul yard work equipment in it. Most of the time I charge it from a 110 volt outlet. Here in Southern Oregon the climate is moderate so battery thermal management is not a big issue.

I think Nissan should offer a Chedemo to CCS adapter. That would make it easier to charge on fast chargers.

The base Leaf with the tax credit has great pricing for a commuter vehicle. While it's a no go for roadtrips, It's a good option as a second family car.

So, how come I can drive my 2011 model Leaf on road trips with many multiple DC charges?

Can you provide details on the mic setup?

I've had a 2018 LEAF (gen 2), 2012 LEAF (gen 1), 2019 Niro PHEV and a 2021 VW ID.4. The LEAFs were by far the most enjoyable to drive for me. The accelerator response is just so much smoother and more direct feeling than anything else. It feels a lot more fun to drive than it should be for the car's specs. I like my new ID4 but I really miss the LEAF already.

I bought a 2013 Leaf for super cheap used in 2019 and still get about 70 mile range from the 24kw battery. It is a zippy car for sure for what it is. It was the first year the battery chemistry changed and so it didn't suffer degradation as much as the 2011-2012 did. Now I am getting a Tesla Model 3 and one of my daughters is getting the Leaf. It'll be a great car for her to learn to drive in.

The most powerful Chademo station in Denver I found is on Monaco and Leedsdale ish. 75kwh, I think or 100? I was able to pull mid seventie.

Got my SL Plus for an amazing price, super happy with it. It’s our main vehicle, and we’re not in a hot climate.

okay not bad for a second car. What else does it compare to? Soul EV, Niro EV, Kona EV, Ionic electric, Mini Cooper SE, Bolt, Mazda MX-30, any others?

FWD, Air cooled battery pack (in hot Florida); strictly second or third car lease option! And get the cheapest one.

@De A In the US at least, Electrify America has CHAdeMO at almost every charge station (although usually only one). That's a huge leap forward compared to being dependent on Nissan dealers.

Yes chademo is probably still the most common fast charging outside of Tesla in the US. 2nd fen leaf is also chademo in the US btw. My dad's has dalied his 2012 leaf in hot Georgia for many many years. The fact that the 1st gen car is air-cooled really doesn't matter at all. The battery is way too small to matter in any way. There's no way you can road trip with it.

I have had a Leaf for 3 years and love it.

About 5 years ago I got a high milage '11 LEAF with a tired battery for almost free. Since I spent lots of time on track with fast cars and motorcycles I thought it would be a good joke to show up at hangouts in a tree hugging California car. Joke was on me. I loved that car. Slap on some sticky Perellis and it was fun to toss around, if anything but a sportscar. Gave it to my niece years ago and she drives it every day, loves it. the LEAF is an ideal commuter but CHAdeMO and air cooled batteries make it a commuter only.

I have a 2018 Leaf SV, love it.. It's exactly what I wanted.

my 2017 nissan leaf 30kWh has 25% degradation on 52k miles!!! great car besides the battery degradation, lease it!!! i am pretty sure i am getting a battery replacement since the warranty is 100k miles 8 years.

That was our favorite Leaf. Turned in at 35,000mi 6% degradation 650 fast charges often drove in 100°F+ heat. Could charge at 54kW. Just keep speed under 60mph you do fine.

I love my 2016 Soul EV. 62 KWH at the Leaf price point is very tempting though!

Chademo charging availability in VT, in my experience, is quite good right now. At most stations, if there is a CCS charger there is also a Chademo. I can tell you that in cold weather our 2016 is happy to take a Chademo charge and the battery stays at a safe temp. In fact, the warmer battery (4 - 5 bars on the temp gauge) actually helps range. I’ll also add that some older Leafs (2013 - 2017) can hold on to their battery life pretty well if they are not fast charged in hot weather. Mine has. I recommend an app called Leafspy to anyone shopping for a used Leaf. It gives a lot of information about what shape a battery is in.

I bought new one in feb and it’s great.

I just ordered my second Leaf. Went for the 62 as my daughter moved 70 miles away and I don't really want to have to stop for a charge on that short round trip. With the Leaf being discontinued soon there are lots of great offers. I got an offer from Nissan finance so the new car is the same monthly price as the old one.

As I understand it, all the batteries up to the 62Kw battery are 2-cells in parallel architecture. The 62Kw is 3-cells in parallel which spreads the thermal load on draw and charging. So if you slow(er) charge at home and keep the temps in line when thrashing the canyons, the 62Kw will last much longer than the smaller battery ones 🙃 With 225+ miles range, there may be no reason to ever fast charge ...

3 in parallel bring more chances that one cell will deviate from the performance on the others and that limits the charge on 3 cells instead of 2. If the batteries are not cooked using fast chargers you concern would only apply after 15 years. Not a reason to choose the heavier battery set if not needed. Go with 2021 or newer cars. The first EV commercially available car in the US would have a lot of history and amateur comments on expectations, anedoctal stories, etc while the battery software and cooling were improved. It is not fair to have reviews talking about issues on a 2011 version of a car that has evolved so much over the years and that was exposed to possibluy abusive stresses on the battery using fast chargers too often. Granted the battery temperature should have been better managed by the cars own software and not rely on chargers to manage that. Hopefully with active battery cooling that will be on par with the other options. The great history is no fires while parked. That is a really scary thing to see, especially if the garage/house goes together.

It would be cool if Nissan would try to make a performance hot hatch version of the Leaf.

Bought a 2019 SV plus over the M3. More room, has a heat pump (M3 didn’t have it at the time), higher off the ground seating, Propilot, and a hatch! Have a reservation for a Lighting…can’t wait!!

I'm so glad that I held out for my Bolt EUV.

Nicely done. I purchased a 2022 SL Plus two days after you made this video. I had previously been in a 2020 Bolt but due to the fire recall, had GM do a buy back. The Leaf is not as engaging to drive as the Bolt, but it is MUCH more comfortable in ride quality over Houston streets. Seats are cushy. I also took advantage of (most of) the tax credit. Nissan gave 0 APR and as you mentioned, the price has dropped for MY 2022. Overall not a bad deal except for the projected 70% depreciation over five years lol. The infotainment head unit is horrible and full of bugs. Probably the only thing I wish I'd bought a Tesla for. But I'm not spending that kind of money. Anyways, not bad when you consider what you get for the money after the tax credit.

I have a very early Leaf. It now has 66,000 miles, and 48% battery left. Also I did lease an electric Smart, but the buy out was $18,800, so after the lease was up, it went back. The Smart had a better range. I could get 100 miles, where the Leaf could only get 73. Chademo charging my Leaf, easy at the Nissan Dealer, and one Electrify America charger about one mile away at the local Target store. Would I buy a new Leaf? I can get a salvage battery for mine for $4500 installed. Meantime, my Audi e-tron is doing just fine. And my project car is up in the air. I can’t decide if I want to replace the 18 6 volt batteries on it, or buy lithium instead. (1992 🪐 Saturn)

The cheap lease pricing seems to be a local thing. Over here in northern California it's around $300/month to lease a base model 2022

Around where I live (central Florida) there are more Chademo chargers than CCS (for now) so my experience with fast charging has been great. FPL (our local power company) has CCS/Chademo fast chargers all up the I-95 here and they claim to charge up to 100kw, but the most my car has ever pulled was 77. FPL EV chargers are amazing btw, every one I have ever used was working - although all the ones I have used were very new - and they are easy to use and only 30 cents per kilowatt. They have charged my car from 18% to 80% in less than 30 minutes- very satisfied with charging speed. However at the Melbourne City Hall they have a Charge Point Chademo fast charger that has been broken for longer than the time I have had my Nissan Leaf and there is still no sign of it being fixed.

We live on Vancouver island, great EV climate. Last fall we researched for three months. Then waited three months for our choice a 2018. But a 2019 SV with 10k km came along. Island driven, one owner who traded up. $28k CAD, a good deal here. We're very happy. Totally feels like a limousine. We may have made a different decision today..the EV world is changing at light speed and will continue to change. Ya just got to make a decision to jump in or wait. Our decision timing was easy..our old CRV had to be replaced!

I hear Nissan's ProPilot is better than Tesla's base Autopilot. I haven't used PP so I can't say but how close are the two (not including FSD which is a joke/scam).

The wind will help with the cooling

We have a 2016 Leaf SV we bought when it came off a 3 year lease and a 2020 Tesla Model 3 LR AWD. For us, it is a great combination of having a car for in town driving and a car that can do road trips. I have to admit though, I thought we would use the Leaf for all our in town driving, but I enjoy driving the Tesla so much that I use it for much of my in town driving also. My wife prefers to drive the Leaf, so that kind of makes the Leaf her car and the Tesla mine. I don't mind that at all.

The dead cat mic seems to be working for the wind noise. I've been having a lot of wind here, too, but the sound quality with a dead cat seems to be okay.

I'm seeing conflicting information about the tax rebate. Per the IRS tax calculator on the IRS website, even without enough tax liability, you will still get a larger refund. Is this not the case?

My used 2015 Nissan Leaf did not come with CHADEMO D.C. quick charging.

10:29 I'm pretty much in full agreement with your assessment of the LEAF. It's one of the most comfortable, EVs to drive, and I really only have couple of nitpicks (like the e-Pedal using friction brakes). The one thing I think should be emphasized, though, is that the 62 kWh version is the one that really works for rural drivers, who often have to put 150 to 200 miles on in typical, daily driving. Not having to scramble for an EV charger during daily routines is huge. Basically, if someone has to drive more than 150 miles in a day once a month or more, they should get the 62 kWh pack over the 40 kWh pack.

Love your channel, I agree 100 percent with your assessment as a leaf plus owner. The only reason I didnt get a bolt is, I couldnt fit in the drivers seat.

Perfect description of a Leaf, a good car for everyday use but not a car that brings forward any enthusiasm. The Leaf is the most sold EV in Norway by far even sale now have start dropping since there is so many alternatives in the same price range. One thing for sure, in summer Norway where there is a fastcharger queue it is almost certain there is a old Leaf in it. Short range and slow'ish chargings does not help on the queue line. Not that it is a large problem, even now with 70% of new cars (private owned) is an EV there still is lots of fastchargers available. Only in summer (vacation) times you can expect to wait for a charger and mostly in very remove areas where there is only one 50kW charger...

I'm quite surprised that they kept chademo. It never really took of in US/EU and CCS would've been a great upgrade. This could be decent car for ranges up to 500 miles (1 full or 2 partial fast charge sessions), but if you can't find charger then it's really only a city car.

I. Don’t know were you are we have lots. Of ccs/chademo stations it won’t be gone for years until all the old and new lteafs doesn’t need it. I use it for 6.5 years more installed all the time In Ohio

Please range test a Leaf S+ with 16" wheels. The wheels on the SL+ are very heavy. Please do a series on the Leaf. Chademo support is still expanding quickly.

EA is not including Chademo to their new fast chargers, and replacing the installed Chademo with CCS. BTW The Nissan Arya will come with CCS plugs.

Every EVgo DCFC charger - +1 CHAdeMO; most ChargePoint DCFC - +1 CHAdeMO. EA in California still adding CHAdeMO. We used both for years; CHAdeMO way more reliable IF charger itself working. Locks 2 ways, solid connection compared to CCS where some drivers have to lift the plug until handshaking done. CHAdeMO and Tesla are the world-wide standards - CCS isn't even the same in US and Europe; forget Africa and Asia and South America. We have many "100kW" CHAdeMO chargers in Bay Area but only 200 Amps so no 100kW charging.

Paying 40K for a defunct charging system seems risky. A bit like buying Beta video recorder back in the day.

Bought one in 2020 SVE 62kw in Ireland, stunned at that $79 lease price, I'm paying €519 on a purchase plan, anyway, chademo wasn't a problem but there's been an explosion in EV purchases here and not Tesla, so ID.4/Ionic 5/EV 6 and a handfull of taycans and etron GTs, it's been ok but I rarely fast charge but due to living in a big city with a house with on-street parking there's no legislation of what you can do to home charge so you basically can't, have to use public chargers at 4 x the price of charging a night rate (off peak) from home, love y our vids, keep it up.

thanx nice video! im from the netherlands and own a leaf dec 2013.150.000 km and still 10 bars of health! range in summer is 110km winter 95km. i charge 99% at home 240 volt to 100% every day! in the netherlands we have a lot of quickcharge stations and special tesla stations. quickcharge stations are called FASTNED they all have chademo! we have a lot of FASTNED stations in a small country as the Netherlands :) my next 1 will be the 62kwh in about maybe 3 years... if lot of people go to CCS i have always room at the FASTNED stations :) the heat in my batterypack never went over 6 blocks... thats why i think the netherlands is the best place for a ev! no long ranges..flat roads..never to hot!

I still can’t understand how the LEAF still qualifies for the tax credit. How has Nissan not met 200,000 vehicles after this long?

I've been wondering this myself, so I just looked at the sales figures. Top sales year for the Leaf was 2014 with 30,000 sold, but they'e down to around 12,000 per year now. They are getting close to the 200,000. The release of the Ariya will probably push Nissan over the line.

They sold over 500,000 but that includes other countries. But the USA didn’t sell 200,000 yet

That battery scares me more than the bolts. I don’t think it would last. But then again the thermal management deal didn’t help the bolt battery obviously lol 🔥
