800 miles in to a Performance Blue 6-speed, vastly exceeded my expectations in performance and most importantly , that certain "enthusiast feel". I feel they have done an extraordinary job spending money where it counts, and all interfaces and telematics work superbly..... "Horrific" to describe some interior bits seems just a bit out of line lol. Steering wheel appearance/feel, shifter feel, throttle and brake feel....extraordinary! Everything else I have simply found to be beyond satisfactory or at times a pleasant surprise. Lighting for instance, is as good or better than anything I have experienced at or near this price point.....

I spent 48hrs in a Mercedes-AMG A35. "AMG light so to speak". 300hp, awd....with a very impressive and easy to access "launch" mode, there was no doubt it was much, much quicker off the line etc.........but then I played a simple game. I was able to get my 6spd N a chunk under sticker....$30,900. From there I started to look for where $27,000 EXTRA DOLLARS went (say that number again a few times). Yes, the A35 stickered at $58k. $27,000 gets you some very nice skins, some from critters, some synthetic- yet on a seat I found less supportive, and less "sporting" than the N's. It also get you buckets and buckets of ambient lighting. It gets you a powerplant that feels no stronger after launch, has less character, and sounds 1000% more synthetic. It gets you numb steering no matter what the setting, strong by strange feeling brakes in spite of all the "right" looking hardware with big calipers and multiple pistons etc., 235/35/19 Continental summers NOT on par with the N-spec 245 Michelins, and pretty much some slightly different versions of safe, dull, resolute understeer no matter what other settings you choose on screens and interfaces I found much poorer than the Hyundai's. The N is just far more fun to drive, not even considering a $27,000 savings.....when value is considered, it is just amazing.

How’s the clutch feel and manual transmission? I’ve read many complaints about the clutch having a very high point and the car prone to stalling. Some sort of software that raises the RPM and then it cuts off when clutch is pressed. I can’t find one to test drive unfortunately. I’m looking for old school manual, no software crap

@@closg9309 It's one of the best six-speeds I've driven. Clutch engagement is perfectly fine, nothing weird about the placement, and the stick is notchy and solid and locks into gear in a really satisfying way. If someone is continually stalling the car, my guess would be that either 1) they have one of the ENs that came from the factory w/ a clutch install issue and they need to get it into the dealer, or 2) they're just learning to drive a manual and would probably stall anything.

The Korean version has a charge port in the center console, heated rear seats and vents. (Unsure on center cup holders) but just with those small things it becomes almost perfect at that price point. How much cost did they save cutting out these few things? I’m sure the back seat options don’t need to be taken out. The vented seats and lack of power or memory are fine because the seats are so awesome, but that back seat makes it hard to consider it over other alternative when you have a family and need a good daily- but also want to enjoy the sportiness for when you’re driving alone.

The top 2 were the Corvette and MX-5. This list helps with the test drive problem- after driving a vehicle a short time, it might seem a lot better than it does after driving it daily for 2 years.

Sadly my N had to be repurchased. Too many issues with engine and the DCT. Axles failed after 100 miles and that was a 3000 repair. Note not matter how this car is driven gas mileage isn’t good at all. Used and entire tank going from Miami to Orlando at 75 mph. Drives great tho.

to be fair the tank is small holding 11 gallons but the mpg is equivalent to most other non-electric sedans at 34 highway

tbh the design of the car is hideous, i really like it tough overall, so perhaps the Black color is the only color obtainable for me which makes it less ugly (or potentially look v. good), the headlamps accompanied with the weird bumper design and weird ass grill makes it look like H intentionally made the car look ugly compared to something like the K5 GT which looks gorgeous both inside and out but technically and powertrain lacking IMO...

Good video. Could care less for an auto (DCT). THIS car should not come with anything other than a manual. They can make a million regular auto elantras for the cat lady and golden corral crowd that cant/wont drive manual. The N is a drivers car and should be had in a manual.

I'm guessing I began driving a manual before you were born and I was wondering, what is your take on why the manual transmission is going away. Not among the cat lady/Golden corral crowd but in places like Formula One, WEC and IMSA LMP GTD GS and TCR, even NASCAR (not my favorite) has phased out the fully manual transmission. In 2020 less than 7% of all cars sold in America were manuals. I agree if I was taking a car out on the track for fun the 6 speed would be the only choice. My Elantra N is a DCT and although I make full use of the paddle shifters it's nice to be able to sit back and relax and let the computer do the thinking. Maybe that's because I'm old. Anyway, I say you should keep shifting, your a rare breed. But don't begrudge us old folk our fun.

I’ve learned to stay the hell away from Hyundai/Kia/Genesis. Numerous engine fire recalls, excessive oil consumption that’s earned them a class action lawsuit, and even their battery electric vehicles have problems with catching on fire. This company is a joke.
