Where other sport compacts like the VW GTI, Hyundai Veloster N, and Subaru WRX have creeped up in performance and price, the 2022 Honda Civic Si maintains a more value-oriented proposition. See why it's a favorite of Car and Driver's in this video with Carlos Lago.

I was all set to trade in my 2019 Si on the 2022 Si until I found out that the heated seats and fog lamps have been deleted and unavailable to install on the dealer level. Those two features were actually the deal breakers since I use those features often. Also knowing these features are STANDARD on the Sport Touring level pisses me off even more.

The de-contenting of the Si is disappointing, and Sport Touring doesn’t give up much to the Si in terms of performance. Perhaps there’d be too much overlap if they kept all those features in the Si.

I love reviews with Carlos, my legit favorite!
They moderately de-contented it (no heated seats or adaptive dampers) while really significantly raising the price. If it wasn't so much more than the last gen I wouldn't be so upset. It's undeniably more handsome but I don't see why people are saying this is a good value anymore

@SpinachLeaf

@@minyusun3907 the adaptive damper really didnt make much of a difference at this level so having them didnt make sense they belong in the CTR where the difference between track and comfort are worlds apart. Honestly it just adds to the price which is what Honda wanted to avoid and I suspect that the American spec was supposed to have the heated seats and steering wheel but just avoided it do to chip shortages and how inflated the prices are on those parts pushing costs of cars up and shrinking profit margins. So since the American market is bigger than the Canadian market Honda pushes these cars on the canadian market where it gets colder and wait till Si's refresh when the chip shortage is over to add those in. But that remains to be seen...

I remember buying a brand new 2000 Civic Si for $17,000. I believe it was like 5-600 more than the EX version. It didn't even have ABS, which the EX had. Loved it. It was bare bones.
Holding on to my lightly modded FA5 for life. (18" OZ wheels, K&N Typhoon SRI, Invidia headers/exhaust, Hondata Tune, HID retrofit). That being said, I am still thrilled to see any vehicles like the '22 Si being offered at all. I believe the Civic Si from 2015 or earlier to be classics in the making. Still analog feeling with just the right amount of tech.
Road testing in winter. I don't miss THAT at all STILL ! Great review.
Keep up the Good work Carlos

This comment... They have a Civic with the 2.0T. It's called the Type R...
Is this engine reliable if you keep stock or just stage 1 tune?
I had a 17 Si coupe and it was wonderful to driver on a daily basis, ride/handling was perfect, brakes were excellent, and the fuel economy was very good. The only thing that made me get something else was the engine didn't feel very exciting or special. It just sounded like an appliance. It's unfortunate because every other aspect of the car was so good.
Surprised it weight in under 3000lbs considering how big it is.
I appreciate the move towards a less edgy design, hopefully someday they'll make a complete return to the lovely, clean lines like the past millennium cars without all the silly "modern" design elements that get outdated within a couple of years.
Which rides better and has a less stiff ride a 2021 Si with active dampers or the 2022 Si?
I started driving manual 7 yrs ago in a Prelude. Im part of the save the manual club!
Just checked one out at a local dealership and they had a 15k market adjustment and 4k in dealer add-ons, so basically asking 48k for an SI. Yes, it's a great car if it came in under 30k, but virtually no dealerships in socal are charging at that rate. I can't imagine the markups on the new Type-R.

Great car for sure but local dealers are jacking up the price with worthless dealer added equipment and "adjusted market value" mark ups. Most are second stickered at $36,000 plus. Give it a few months or preorder! Nice video.
I just want the manual V6 Accord Coupe brought back. The last Accord Coupe and the last V6 Accord was made in 2017.
My local dealer wants $40k for one that is on their lot. If anybody out there is paying that for a civic Si, please get help.

@@ThePilotGearThat's true today when so many vehicles outperform my abilities. Yet, manual trans were downplayed to the point of extinction in supercars because autos were fractionally quicker. When I first subscribed to C&D in 1974 at age 11, the figures meant more. If your car could hit 0-60 in under 7 seconds, it was quick in '75. Manuals were almost always faster back then.

Seriously.... I hate most reviews don't call this out... This US si is not worth buying when the Canadian model has so much more. You're paying more for less than last 10th gen and people should not give this model a pass cause it looks new. I so wanted to get in this car from my 10gen but I won't give money to a brand that wants more money for less... For those who cry stuff cost more than make it a option. Reduce the price of this base trim civic and price a Canadian spec model for more...

But that's why I like it. I'd rather have one analog guage, so I can legally drive if I lose the OSD. Power/heated seats add weight and expensive to fix. Shift lights are kinda cool though...and that shift knob will warm your hand right up, if the sun hits it😆 no need for heated wheel.
I bought my 10th Gen Si for 22K OTD in May 2020 and it has all the features they took away from this one plus more
If you gave it a 10-15hp bump and give the heated seats as well as the fog lamps, I think there would be no complaining about this car as you see in the comments. The people asking for a big increase in HP need to remember this is a drivers car and not all about power

Manufacturers should start selling directly to the public, imo. If anyone should be making a big cut, it should be the manufacturer who thought it up, designed it, tested it, debugged it, marketed it and built it.
Its a shame there isn't something like a fit with this power train, diff and even lighter/ smaller. They wouldn't do it for obvious reasons but it would be cool . The Civic is essentially an accord . It's pretty impressive it is less then 3k for a boat . 1.5 pushing a boat and still having a little poke seems impossible to somebody born in the late 60s but impressive as well if you can get past feeling like it shrunk your pens by 4.2 inches if your mind is used to 5,7 being an average small engine . I'm still not sold on tiny displacement and think it's a trick for govt standards that doesn't pay off in the real world and more about passing tests for govt and posting good peak or decent peak #s . I remember when the idea of a high performance engine being 2.0 was an idea I had trouble grasping even when seeing it sort of work in the early DSM cars , then the next rounded Eclipse and then the Evo which in stock trim was more about AWD and nit actually fast everywhere like a V8 or tricked you with the lag rush .
Driving the 2015. Shifter has always been the strongest point of this car.
Great news that Honda and Sony are teaming up to produce EVs.....a match made in heaven!
People are sleeping so hard on this car because it has 'only' 200 hp. Drive one and you'll understand. It is an absolute joy. It doesn't get any better this side of a GR86 or a Miata. And the Si is a hell of a lot more practical.
I think it's a clean design and no doubt this gen has its appeal to a great many, but I honestly like the lines (and features) of my 10th gen just fine. It may not be everyone's cup of tea as far as the body, but I am keen on it. The 11th gen looks like a smaller Accord. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's no confusing my Civic with an Accord.
Had one for a while … it was delightful but got rid of it for a GR86 since track season is approaching…. I’ll definitely get a CTR once available … but anyone who wants a really nice, affordable, practical, lightweight but large enough to be comfortable for someone 6’3” with kids, well featured and FUN street car the Si is an amazing choice. Looks great too.
Why do they not offer an SI version of the hatchback. The hatchback can be bought as a manual so offering the SI engine would not be a big effort. The sedan just looks like an old Accord. The type R is a $90K car aimed at VW Golf R buyers. If you wanted a sedan, the Kia stinger (just an Auto but paddle shifters) is about $37K. Nothing bar Golf R is a TypeR but you can get the 4WD 3.3L stinger for $55K and like the SI it has rear doors and rear seat space like the Stinger. For $59K you get Caddy Ct4-v Blackwing with manual and the upgraded twin turbo V6 plus rear seats for the kids or your jealous mates. Want an SI price- lots of them used and likely a CT4-V out there or perhaps even an older blackwing (or the famous V-wagon)
The Orange paint clashes with that weird red interior trust me….besides that car is a great commuter

Looking at it now, the taillights are too big for the car. They are like accord sized.
It looks like an Accord.... The Civic used to be a small compact hatch/sedan.
Damn, If they put an NA motor in it I’d get it.
I love this thing. Sadly, my rein of manual cars will be coming to an end since the wife requires me to have an automatic daily driver in the driveway (at least I've got the Miata). But if that were different, the Si would have been my Mazda3's successor, hands down. It's gotten so much better than the previous gen Civic, much more handsome, and it's pretty much a midsize sedan anyway, so perfect for a 4-person family daily driver. I'm just surprised their press car comes with that orange paint, black rear trunk lip wing and black wheels. Not a fan at all about how that looks. I'd also be looking for 17s instead of 18s but other than that, what a perfect car.
The SI is much less of a value proposition now. Its de-contented and has a much higher price than the prior gen. I appreciate the more more mature styling on this gen but want the adaptive suspension back. This is a step backwards for Honda. I would go Elantra/Veloster N for not much more money and a much better driving car. This felt like an apology piece for Honda
its not 28k its 35k+😀
"A nice car to drive" was never what the Si was branded for. It was created as a performance car. Its not just a nice car to drive. Ill get an Accord for that. I want performance and it seems that the Si is just falling behind every other manufacturer again. A performance BRANDED car without the same performance, even suspension wise, as the previous generation which is cheaper. So once again, they have fallen into a don't buy this one, get the previous gen if you want a real Si, pit. I love the wait for the Type R comment. If you want power similar to that of a WRX which you can get now....just wait and pay even more for a Type R. Great advice.

Honda dropped the ball on the si they keep selling underwhelming cars in a market that is wayyy to competitive the si hasn’t been good since it had a k engine in it imo other manufacturers have stepped up and with cars like the 86,veloster n,GTI,focus and fiesta st before they stopped making them were all out classing and outselling these new si Civics. Spent all the time focusing on the type r so it can sell above sticker like a mf and forgot all about the si that carried the weight before the type r came back
I can't take this vid seriously until you post your Google certificate that qualifies you to have an opinion
A better 'Si' at 1/3 the price, is a used 10th Gen Base Sedan with 6MT. It's a better setup for the racetrack, while the Turbo Si does well on the streets or for those who want to show off the straight-line potential.

I have to give credit to Honda, even though I’m not a fan of the brand. Ever since they started introducing turbos into their fleet, their cars have become so much better. Still sound like a tin can, but fun to drive finally.
It’s test results are a bit mixed? It’s BEST results barely match last years while in some it downright loses. In no metric is it a better performing machine then last years.
