The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Is A Near Perfect Pint-Sized Urban SUV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Subaru sells a ton of Crosstrek's in the US every year. For 2021, the #SubaruCrosstrek gets a bunch of updates including a new #CrosstrekSport trim that add a more powerful 2.5L F-4 engine. The new #Crosstrek continues to be an #Impreza hatchback on stilts, but as Subaru's third best-selling model, these are all welcomed changes that should keep plenty of younger buyers coming into #Subaru showrooms.

Just wanted to mention that the Sport actually is the dual mode x-mode by the way, the Outdoor editions have just modified the dual mode even further. However, it should be noted that the Limited trim of the Crosstrek doesn't have the dual mode x-mode. As much as I wanted the better headlights, I ended up getting a Sport because of 1) those waterproof seats, and 2) dual x-mode

Only issue I had was the trunk space but fixed that with a Thule motion XT L that I keep permanently on my Trek. Holds my golf clubs, shoes and pretty much everything else and with the 78" clearance total still can go into parking garages. My wife got a 2021 Sport on Halloween 2020. We drove it across the country and it got 35mpg on the freeway. It has enough low end and mid rev torque to pass in the city and highway. The HP is fine for every situation we've been in. The eyesight safety features are fantastic and the Crosstrek almost drives itself on the freeway. I agree, it should absolutely have LED lights everywhere by default. I bought some H11 LED fog lights online and it really does help at night without blinding other drivers. Infotainment is pretty decent, but the seats are fantastic. Comfortable and super easy to clean. You'll be hard pressed to find a more total package SUV under $30k.

My parents own this same car in the same trim in the same color but without the $1600 convenience package. So it has the standard 6.5 inch touchscreen, no rear cross-traffic alert, no blind spot monitoring, and no sunroof. But none of that stuff really detours us. It's still a great car with great value. I love getting my fair share behind the wheel. It is so fast and peppy, handles great, has responsive steering, drives smooth and comfortably, and has plenty of other safety features to make up for the lost convenience package. Also, the back seats are very generous (although rear a/c vents and fold-down armrest would've done the trick) and the rear hatch is fairly decent. It's essentially a lifted Impreza Hatchback with some plastic cladding. However, the 8.3 inches of ground clearance is very beneficial getting in and out. I do agree with you with having halogen headlights. It would've been nice if they standardized LEDs on the Crosstreks like they have on the Forester, Outback, and Legacy. Plus, they really help with night driving and they look better.

You may find that "rolling" rather than stomping the accelerator for high speed runs will give you better engine response. My Forester XT's and Outback XT's tend to hesitate during an accelerator stomp, but respond right away to an accelerator roll. Also, the CVT seems to become more responsive as miles build up on the vehicle.

Previously, we owned a 2018 version of the Crosstrek and can definitely feel the improvement in performance with the larger engine. Took it on a 3500 mile road trip this past summer and it performed really well with gas mileage in the 30's and plenty of power going through the mountain passes of the west coast. One disappointment thus far is with the CVT. Within the first three months the valve body failed. Had to get the car towed in for warranty repairs that took almost two weeks to complete.

I’ve had my Crosstrek Sport for over 18000 miles. Love it and need to clarify a few thing in this review. It only makes that noise when you stomp on the gas trying to ascertain a 0-60 time. Most of the time it behaves like a normal automatic transmission. This is one of the best CVTs out there. I can easily get 600 plus miles and 38-40 MPGs on this car, just driving the speed limit. The seats are indeed super comfy. Consumer Reports and I agree, it’s very quiet on the highway and certainly around town. The symmetrical AWD system is simple outstanding. Traveled through several unplowed roads this winter in Vermont and NH. You can easily add LASFIT led headlights and they work perfectly. The 8 inch screen works well and is large enough for me. Only complaint I have, is I still owe 18K on the car. Can’t wait to pay it off. 😀

Test drove one of these a few months back, and I was thoroughly impressed with it. I'm really not an SUV person, but the Crosstrek is one of the few that I do like, and I'd choose this one if I couldn't get the Limited (and NO, the CVT doesn't bother me in the slightest...it gets the job done for what it's supposed to do). One thing that really blows my mind is, well, remember when you pointed out the LCD display above the infotainment screen? What's interesting is in this vehicle you can only get the full color one in the Limited trim, however, in the Impreza Sport trims, that same full color display is STANDARD! That's baffling that the Impreza Sport gets it, but the Crosstrek Sport doesn't! Way to cut corners, Subaru (they're known for doing that, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much)! Still, I'd gladly upgrade to this if I could easy.

@@danek893 Well, the only midsized sedans that come with a DCT of any kind are the Hyundai Sonata N Line and the Kia K5 GT (both of which have the 8-speed wet DCT). Other than that, it’s either a CVT or a traditional automatic. CVTs do better when it comes to stop-and-go traffic driving or cruising on the highway, but I can understand why most people prefer to have some kind of gearbox in their vehicles just for the sake of engagement. Some CVTs are better than others, and from what I’ve personally driven, Subaru’s Linertronic is one of the better ones out there. I have yet to take Toyota’s CVT for a try, so I can’t say for sure what theirs is like. Nissan’s is junk, but we all know that (and they’re mostly the reason why CVTs get a bad rep, really). Subaru sold 130,000 units of the Crosstrek annually in the US before the pandemic, and this was before the 2.5l became available. That's more than the HR-V was at just below 100,000 in 2019; the CX-30 doesn't crack 40,000 units. But yet.... KZread reviewers make it sound like the bigger engine is gonig to save sales of this vehicle, but the reality is that it just extends a small portion of the sales at the top end in the back half of the the lifespan of this generation. The bigger engine is nicer, but car reviewers keep on going on and on about the wrong thing. Obviously, if power was as important as reviewers made it out to be, it wouldn't have sold as well.

I'm on my second Crosstrek but I'm strongly considering CX-5 as my next car. While I like the Crosstrek, the 2.0 liter and CVT are something I'm not super excited about. Also my brand new Crosstrek has bunch of rattles inside the interior, the most annoying is the eye-sight housing that rattles and drones almost constantly. Most bizarre thing was dealer telling me to stick a business card between the housing and the windshield to make it stop 😀and yet it didn't stop the rattle. There's also rattle in the left A pillar and the glovebox cover - all these noises and rattles occur at normal 35mph city driving. So while I like Subarus and the idea of more powerful 2.5L engine, I'm probably going Mazda.

About your gripe regarding no LED headlights on this - they would be nicer to look at and probably safer at night. But I've learnt from other peoples car troubles that when LED headlights stop working, even if its a small part of the assembly - usually its just easier or cost effective to just buy the whole assembly. The only issue is, cost effective is a relative term because it costs hundreds of dollars even for the most affordable brands. Same issue if you're in a fender bender and you need to replace it without going through insurance. I definitely appreciate the old school halogens because of that.

I have driven most of the competition (HRV, Rogue Sport, CX3, CH-R, and Renegade) since I work at a dealership And the Crosstrek just seems so much better. Mine has the 2.0L which is quite a difference compared to my 6-cylinder Legacy, but I honestly don’t find it that bad around town and commuting. It doesn’t feel as slow as the times make it out to be. I’m also averaging around 33 mpg in town and around 39 mpg on longer hwy drives. Both of the Subaru’s have been reliable, easy to live with, and have required no additional maintenance save for regular oil changes. I would recommend anyone looking at a Crosstrek to spend the extra few thousand dollars and get a Limited trim since it adds a lot of equipment over the lower trim levels.

The CVT automatically tics it off my list . Love everything else about it. Idk y they don’t get a automatic from Toyota with whom they collaborate with

Toyota Corolla Cross has basically the same tranny other than a legit 1st gear. I just bought a 2021 Crosstrek Limited w/2.5, first CVT I've ever owned .... its not that much of a change. I still have a Toyota 4 Runner Limited, so I've seen both sides of the transmission choices.

@@danielfair4675 it’s the same transmission. Toyota and Subaru share some things to lessen production costs on creating new . It really helps smaller car companies compete . Subaru has designed a few cars for shared badging with Toyota. I don’t like cvts especially the problematic ones from Nissan . Hope u like yours .
