The 2021 Honda Odyssey Has Plenty to Offer for Everyone | MotorWeek Road Test
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Honda has continued to show their commitment to the minivan segment, and have been rewarded with a legion of faithful fans. So, 2021 sees a host of updates to keep those fans happy, as well as perhaps give some new households reasons to think twice before buying that “less practical” crossover. This 2021 Honda Odyssey has plenty to offer families, as well as maybe even a little something for the sports car fans as well.

Yo! I’ve been watching the old vids of motorweek. I swear I had no idea he was still making these videos. Unreal!
6.8 seconds for a minivan is really quick and it did 6.8 with an insanely amount of wheelspin with AWD I think it would do 6.2 or who knows how much, that’s quicker than a lot of cars, like the Subaru BRZ

Wow Engine sound!!
I love my 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite. With 4 kids, it just makes life easier. The sound system could be a bit clearer and louder but it still works great. The suspension is a bit soft in the rear but add Timbren suspension enhancement on the rear and it handles much better. Factor in a roof rack and tow hitch because it doesn't come stock and is a bit expensive. I get about 25mpgs mixed driving between gas fill ups. and on the highway, I've seen as high as 30mpgs. Overall I am still happy with my purchase two years later.

What about fixing the rust issue on the rear wheels? Have they figured out how to stop rust holes on the panels? 40k and rust on ALL these minivans is terrible...
LOL. That's some serious wheel spin. Honda has been very conservative with the J35 performance numbers, since 2013, when the engine line was updated to the Earth Dreams series. My Accord with the J35Y2 is putting 261 whp on the dyno.

I admit, the Toyota Sienna does have a better reputation when it comes to reliability, but the Odyssey is much nicer to drive in my opinion. The Chrysler Pacifica is nice too, but I'm not sure about Chrysler's long term reliability.
Might be the ideal transportation
The only negative about the Honda V6 is that it still uses a timing belt which requires replacement at every 90K-100K miles. I wished that they would upgrade to a timing chain like every other manufacturer now.
Odyssey royally crushes the new sienna in performance and driving dynamics.

The Chrysler Pacifica is still the king IMO. Hopefully, MW will actually do a true road test review with acceleration, handling, and braking tests for the refreshed 2021 gas model. The Pacifica's been out almost 5 years and they still haven't done one yet.
@ruley73

@Beelzebot The Pacifica won't be a "junkyard filler." CR withdrew it's recommendation of the 2018 Honda Odyssey and hasn't recommended it since. The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica actually scored better than the 2020 Odyssey in overall reliability. Resale value is basically irrelevant for a minivan. Parents aren't buying them and trading them in every 3 years. Have fun removing those 68 lbs 2nd row seats from your Odyssey too. I'll have all my seats stowed into the floor before you get one out.
@Bartonovich52
3 жыл бұрын
@ Beelzebot You obviously don’t remember all the problems the Odyssey had with transmissions. FCA products are junkyard fillers only because of depreciation. And they depreciate only because they are fleet vehicles and lease returns whereas Honda doesn’t do that. Otherwise people wouldn’t think twice of putting a new transmission in an FCA vehicle. Just like they don’t think twice about replacing head gaskets on Subarus after 80K where a GM car that has one blown at 200K “isn’t worth it”. Honda is the only vehicle I’ve ever owned with a class-action suit against it (1.5 turbo engine and oil dilution). And that includes lots of so-called “crappy” domestic brands.

When you say mini van, is this still considered one?
@303nitzubishi4

Modern day "mini" vans are comparable in size and mass to the GM full size vans 72-96. They're much denser though, meaning there is less weight from metal chassis and powertrain components and more weight in trim and accessories. The Transit connect is the closest thing to a minivan that is available here in the US these days. Nissan and FCA vans are a bit smaller and meant for cargo only
It’s nice to see that they took a tip from Toyota and put that track under the rear glass instead of in the middle of the quarter panel. Toyota sienna forever!

The Odyssey has an infamous reputation for short-lived automatic transmissions. I've also heard of premature engine failures too. You're better off spending WAY less and getting a Kia Sedona.
