100%. No kids use the tilt-and-slide. So your choices are muddy shoes running over the center console, or over the top of the bench (like we used to do). This is why everyone is getting the captain chairs instead of a bench.

Also intelligent people have health insurance and end up accessing the best private healthcare without going bankrupt. Im not from the US neither from Europe but having live in both places all I can say is the US is superior by far and Europe does suck sometimes

I don’t understand what that dinosaur’s problem is. It’s not like Doug is a mechanic who gives car advice; he simply reviews cars and gives his subjective opinion about it. I used to watch Scotty and his advice is good but it’s the same old “only buy a Toyota/Lexus/standard transmission” bullshit. I just checked out his channel and it seems he’s resorted to click-baiting and barely running videos past the 10 minute mark for ad revenue.

I do want to point out that the snow mode does actually do something, it decreases your vehicles power in an effort to increase traction per wheel making sure youll have little to no slippage, I drive a highlander and in my experience it has been proven to be immensely useful in heavily snowed roads

Best if country u live in used salt. It can ruin body of the car especially below since it can cause rust or something but there are far less accidents and less icy roads when they put salt on roads here. Im from Serbia and from what i know they decided to stop putting salt in Western Europian countries cuz of the reason mentioned above :D

@@connorPiper0 Reading comprehension, sir. I said it STILL ran like NEW at 100k when I sold it. Nothing but oil changes. That motor will last 250k or more depending on the next owner(s). The Highlander taxis in NYC are going 400k.

A too late comment but I find it criminal not to include what I think is the most useful feature in this car, the Lane Tracing Assist combined with the Dynamic Radar. I've drove this car for a 10 hours trip and I LOVED how I barely had to do the steering. I believe all trims has it which is not something you see in other brands.

I LOVE your videos man! I've learned so much about ALL cars! its awesome being able to impress my family and friends about cars- from a maybach to a Highlander and everything in between. What I love most is your CONSISTENCY with the posts. Matched with your enthusiasm, I simply HAD to watch all of your videos as soon as I found your page. It's crazy that people families will forgo the versatility of a van in favor of a crossover because of crossovers are the "cool" option. Tell me again why a 2020 Highlander is cooler than a 2021 Pacifica or a 2021 Kia Sedona? I still don't get this hatred for minivans. If I needed a minivan, that's exactly what I would buy, and sliding doors are awesome, especially powered ones. I don't have one because I currently have no use for one, but I still like them and hate SUVs exactly because people are buying them because they are too insecure to get a minivan. If you buy an SUV, I will be much more likely to judge you than if you buy a minivan.

I like our minivan. Kids can’t open or close doors gently, our Sienna’s sliding doors have prevented countless door dings and probably a few trips to urgent care for smashed fingers.

Doug is the only one who can make a car review so dramatic. With that deep look into the camera peering through to my soul. He delivers the line "get hot and potentially die."

Doug 2021: THIS is the latest Huffy bicycle and here is why it's a great take on the classics

The 3.5 is pretty damn special, it's nearly perfect.

The previous model has all of these features except: -latch to move 2nd row with car seat installed -wireless phone charging -rear view mirror screen -updated infotainment The infotainment was probably the biggest complaint with the previous model though. The price jumped quite a bit too, the previous top end was still under $50k. Like all SUV's this size, the 3rd row is completely useless. Reviewers say it's only for kids, but kids are supposed to be in car seats, and good luck with one of those back there. If you want a 3rd row, get something bigger. Otherwise, leave it folded down and have excellent cargo space.

I do use my Highlander’s off road features, and it’s a lot more capable then most would think. Fun fact: the Highlander was originally a trim package for the 4Runner.

I'd love to see a video on the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice duo now that they're a bit older and significantly cheaper. They're going consistently for only $6k-$8k, and they're pretty quick little convertibles. They've got some interesting features inside and they're pretty unique.

Awesome video Doug! I was wondering what are those spare keys doing in the back of the car, hanging from the ceiling?

My parents are both retired and where looking for a "Last car" that would work the rest of their lives. Told them Toyota every time they asked for recommendations. They finally got a 2021 Highlander in February.

I remember when Doug first reviewed the Peugeot 3008, he said he usually doesn't review cars like these. I guess the market has spoken: he now reviews so many mid-size SUVs and crossovers.

@@kevinnorris6558 he did not go to Mexico, an avid viewer of Doug's channel drove up to San Diego with his 3008..similar occurrence happened with the Suzuki Swift

I have to mention that the way this review was made is really useful for the manufacturers to promote their products and also improve upon factors that are mentioned. Doug should be paid by them just to do this and i think he does it in a very informative, clear concise and also professional way. Great review!!

The "drive mode" you speak of is Crawl Control that allows you to seamlessly crawl out of sand and mud traps during offroading. This is found in top-notch offroad vehicles like Landcruiser and Tacoma. That's a huge Toyota advantage over other cars of same price the same price.

as a father considering on getting a highlander sometime soon, i do greatly appreciate this Doug!

14:11 the rear view mirror is a camera, not just a screen. I know cause I seen other Toyota Highlander video that show it’s an actual camera screen

My step mom has a red 2020 platinum highlander she never uses the real mirror anymore the screen is so much better

I'm a trainer for Toyota, and can confirm that the Platinum gets the digital rearview mirror. Also, you can get the 12.3 inch screen in the limited as an option for anyone who may read this.

Doug is the kind of guy that will give his Valentine's day a Doug score 😉

I first started with Highlander in 2008 (used with 1000 mi) with a somewhat plain version with all wheel drive and loved it. I drove it to 90K mi and traded in for a 2013 limited (used with 900 mi) I currently have 75Kmi on it and plan to drive it as long as I can. At age 62 I have little need to get another one. I like the 2013 and it carries all my grandkids when needed and all our stuff when on road trips. I like the all wheel drive for snow country and wet roads. The sound system is very good and the nav-system is a plus we have grown to really like. I like the quality that Toyota puts into it's car and the power from this V6 is surprising. Yes the newest tricks on the 2020 would be nice but for us - what we have, we like and don't feel the need to spend over $50K on a car. I would recommend a Highlander to anyone - new if you can afford it or a good used one would be a fine car as well.

FYI the rear view mirror is a camera, all you have to do is flip it up and the entire thing turns into a rear camera screen.

It's fun to watch a review of a car you already own. I bought the platinum trim on the day this was posted (I didn't see this review till today) I cannot say enough how much I love my Highlander!!! A couple things on my experience. The rearview mirror is a camera as well if you flip the switch on the underside. The adaptive cruise is excellent but I'm not a fan of the LKA as it seems far too aggressive for my tastes. Criticism I have is that the knobs feel very cheap and flimsy especially for a vehicle at this price. Overall I do love this vehicle and anticipate many years of ownership. I traded in my 2016 Honda CRV which I never really enjoyed. It was just too small for me and nothing stand out about it.

The LKA comes from the factory at the most aggressive setting. You can reduce this in the settings.

Doug's video gave me more insight then the actual Highlander launch I attended for work.

I allways laugh when Doug calls a huge vehicle midsize. And yes - I’m from Europe👍

in europe light vehicle category is below 3.5t or 3500kg, but in north america vehicle called light if it is below 11t 11000kg, so basically most trucks without pneumatic brakes people drive with regular passenger car license, hence the classification

Basically it's a full size crossover but mid size SUV.

The rear cargo/seat back mat thing is really nice. I especially like the flexible 'joint' between the two surfaces to cover over the gap.

I'm a single 23 year old, i'm in no situation, nor do i intend to get into one, where i'd need a 3-row crossover, but i still want one. I love how much thought they've put into the actual demographic. We had USB 15 years ago but people would've laughed at the idea of putting USB ports into your car

Get it with the 3.5 V6. Toyota has been using that engine for over 10 years and only improved on it over time. Of course do oil changes and other maintenance lol.

Just because it doesn't move automatically, doesn't mean it's not one motion. The back moves forward and the bottom slides forward without needing to move one first, or pull two separate levers. The old 4Runners needed you to flip the seat bottom forward, and then press a button on the top of the seatback.

@@xenonram It's still two motions. First the seat back goes down, then the seat moves forward. If it were one motion both would occur at the same time.
