I disagree. I think he’s properly rated as the best channel on KZread.
One thing to keep in mind: Although he later denied it, Dempster supposedly vetoed a trade to the Braves for Randall Delgado. If that story is true, he did the Cubs a massive favor, even if they didn't know it at the time.
@dqr89

Yep he did indeed veto the braves trade. Also Hendricks wasn’t seen as the prize of the return for the cubs , it was Christian Villanueva who was suppose to had been the prize
@1015Elvis

He also vetoed a trade to the Cardinals
@9Rollotomasi

Based on how poorly he played he did the Braves a favor as well. Delgado would later be included in trade package for Justin Upton. Upton was valuable on the field and later off when traded for Max Fried.

He one hundred percent vetoed the trade
The Ichiro trade actially has a good reason to it. During 2012, the mariners were obviously trying to rebuild. The issue was that Ichiro was still under contract, costing them $18 million a year. Seeing this, Ichiro wanted to leave the team by 2013. He said that the team has so many young players who need to be given a chance and him on the team was preventing that, so he wanted to leave in order to help the team in the long run. Ichiro was a Griffey and subsequently Mariners fan growing up and him wanting to get traded in order to help the team is something that Ichiro would do.

Not exactly. Ichiro had major issues with the front office. He knew they'd never build a winner and wanted to play in the post season. The Mariners pissing off Ichiro was a pretty common thing, they pushed him to asking for a trade multiple times.
That deadline we got Hunter Pence AND Marco Scutaro! Sabean was cooking!
Marco Scutaro mentioned that some of the Giants players started calling him “Blockbuster” because there were all these other massively hyped deals going on, when he was the biggest steal for that year.

The 2012 deadline was one of my fondest early memories as a baseball fan. I remember listening to the radio in the car after my little league game got rained out and hearing that Ichiro was traded to the yanks.. and watching MLB network on the tiny tv in the kitchen when news broke after 4 pm that Dempster was traded. Thanks for allowing me to relive it all, Jolly🙌

Ive always really liked the content but Id really like to see some stuff outside of this decade. I understand it was his childhood decade when most of us fall in love with the game. Mine was the 90s and the 00s. Would love to see more stuff in the Jolly Olive format that took place in the 70s 80s 90s and 00s. Theres some wild stuff that happened back then that most of the younger viewers of this channel would love to hear about. Steroids were not the only thing that happened in the 90s especially. It was a very different game. Not better or worse, just different.
I know this was in August 2012 after the non-waiver deadline, but don’t forget the Sox traded Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto to the Dodgers for Allen Webster, Jerry Sands, Rubby De La Rosa, Ivan De Jesus, and James Loney. The Dodgers ate those contracts so it was a salary dump for Boston. None of those prospects panned out. Still makes it feel like we traded prospect Anthony Rizzo out of Boston for nothing (he was traded to acquire Adrian Gonzalez)
@anthonyemerson2965

The trade doesn’t feel like a win for either team, because the Dodgers acquired those guys to chase a championship, but never won with any of them. Meanwhile none of the prospects panned out for the Red Sox, but dropping those contracts did set the table for their 2013 additions, which led to a championship for them.

It’s crazy to think none of those prospects worked out for Boston yet they literally won the World Series the next year by picking up good role players like Gomes, Napoli and victorino. I love baseball

Loved watching him while the Astros were descending into the Lastros, he was a highlight on some mediocre squads
Hearing all those old Astro names really made me smile, 03 to 12 was some of my favorite era of baseball and loved watching the Astros when I got the chance, even after the tanking began that pinstripe open star look and colors are still my favorites for the 'Stros

This just proves that trading away Shohei is just as risky as keeping him. Great video by the way Jolly. Always love your trade deadline videos (and ur videos overall)
One of my favorite years in baseball. I was 21 and the Yankees were having a great regular season and just kept getting better. Jeter had a career comeback, Andy Pettitte returned, Rafael Soriano was nearly perfect, Ichiro was a fantastic hitter at the top of the lineup. Granderson decided to whack 40 homeruns...again. Miguel Cabrera was showing the world his true peak. Mike Trout was making a splash. Verlander was winning a crazy amount of games. Johan Santana threw a no hitter. Chipper was getting a farewell. Boston was dead despite having a great team on paper.
This is such an awesome video. Thanks for another one Jolly
This is great for the grid Jolly, thank you
Potential Video Idea that I think would be interesting: Teams that sold at the deadline, but still managed to make the playoffs. Keep up the great content!
Always enjoy these jolly keep ‘em coming
2 MLB KZreadrs posting videos about 2012 at the exact same time is hilarious

Thank you. Feel like I've hit my stride lately and I appreciate the feedback.
It's going way back, but how about a video on the the 1995 trade deadline? David Cone, Bobby Bonilla, David Wells, Andy Benes, Bret Saberhagen, Rick Aguilera, Scott Erickson, Jim Abbott, Deion Sanders, Dave Burba, Mike Stanton, Ruben Sierra and Danny Tartabull, among others on the move that July. Almost all of them ended up helping playoff bound teams in the first year of the Wild Card Era
Love these videos, they definitely take me back
2012 division series were classics ever series went to game 5. Cardinals had a crazy rally in the 9th to win it against Wash Giants came back 0-2 and won 3 straight in Cincy then came back down 3-1 against Cards im the nlcs...Verlander pitched a gem to beat Oak in game 5 and Yankees traded blows with the O's to advance in game 5. Classic postseason
I know all the Red Sox major stuff happened after the deadline in 2012, but their fire sale deserves mention I think
Love your videos. This might be your best one yet.
Another jolly olive trade deadline video W
I’m gonna need to remember some of these for my immaculate grids in the future
You also had the Sox fire sale to the Dodgers that August
Jolly Olive is killing it
When Grienke came up I thought "I wonder how many viewers will be surprised to learn he was an Angels deadline trade?" Then Jolly says "Neither team really benefitted or were hurt by it so it isn't very memorable" and I was like "Yep".
Jolly Olive is the unsung hero of Jomboy Media
Today gotta be a great day cuz Jolly olive and foolish baseball uploaded
Victorino didn't come up through the Phillies system. He debuted for San Diego after being rule 5 drafted in 2003, struggled and was returned, and then stuck with the Phillies when LA decided not to take him back after he failed to make the MLB roster out of Spring Training. He spent most of the year with Scranton and won IL MVP, but most of his development took place in the Dodgers system.
Great content I just subscribed💪💪💪💪
Ichiro on the Yankees is a moment I will treasure forever
Love your videos!
Marco Scutaro most underrated pick up of the entire deadline.
@suddendeathsports

Boy I'll say. Up until the trade, the most RBI he ever had in a season was 60. He had 44 in just 61 games with the Giants, batting .362 as a 36 year old! I knew he was the NLCS MVP, but man he just stared crushing it the moment he put on the orange & black. Sabean's pickups during that time were something else :)
Back in 2012 I was 14 and even though the season wasn't going our way I still thought and had hope they'd extend Pence and they'd buy at the deadline. Then when they traded Victorino the reality of this Phillies teams run being over really hit me.
Seeing the Ryan Dempster trade almost ten years later was a big win with the Cubs.
Jolly I’m a huge brewers fan and my favorite team is 2011 team and no one talks about them. They were very underrated.

2011 brewers are definitely underrated, Braun/Fielder duo was deadly
Ladies gentlemen and every individual in between... what a great intro
Crazy that the Cardinals and Reds both did absolutely nothing this year. Not a coincidence that they both got beat by the Giants, who were very active at the deadline
These videos are awesome
I literally went to one of Ichiro’s first games as a Yankee but completely forgot he played there
Paused by chance at 7:38, and hey, look who's on the scoreboard as the winning pitcher for Pittsburgh, the aforementioned Wandy Rodriguez!
All these Houston moves set them up nice for 2017- present
The Dempster trade was massive for the Cubs. Hendricks is a Chicago legend and a super reliable starter
Kyle Hendricks is my favorite player. The Professor still hosts live classes every 5 days on Advanced Changeups at a baseball city near you!
Gonna take notes for immaculate grid
The Ichiro Trade singlehandedly destroyed my Baseball Fandom. Now I mainly watch random videos on history and haven't watched a game or even looked at standings in over a decade.
This one might be just as crazy, the next few days are certainly going to be interesting
This video made me realize that Greinke is still pitching - and he's having a nightmare of a season. He's literally 1-14 he needs to hang it up, he's ruining his HOF numbers. I still think he's pretty much a lock for the HOF though. Great video as usual J.O. One little note - you failed to mention that Dempster won a WS ring with the Red Sox in his last season in 2013.
I wish you showed the acrobatic run scored by Ichiro in the ALDS
The Phillies managed to pull off an incredible feat from 2008-2012. They won a WS, then lost a WS, then lost a NLCS, then lost their NLDS, then didn't make the playoffs. The most steady decline in history.
2015 was wild too
1:07 the word that pops into my mind, personally, is “thumptuous” trademark filings tba…
i like “ladies, gentlemen, everyone outside & in between”
Jolly is awesome
12:20 Just got off the phone with my mom talking about how the rockies should trade half the roster 😭
The dodgers Red Sox trade that year was one of the biggest in my opinion. Can’t believe he didn’t talk about it.
@jasonfire3434

That trade actually happened in August during the waiver period (back then you could still make trades until August 31 as long as players cleared waivers first). So technically it was after the “trade deadline” that everyone talks about
Matt Dominguez hit the lone bomb at Minute Maid in the first MLB game I ever attended
Great video
Would like to see a vid on andres galarraga I somehow got to his bref and idk I was just kinda interested abt him more
2012 was 11 years ago? Fuck I'm old
Pls do a vid about Adam jones. Idc what the main topic is. Just need an Adam jones video. Keep up the good work king
Ugh, the 2012 trade deadline was a massive disappointment as a Rangers fan. They were trying to ward off the Angels and A's and get back to the World Series but the only move was Ryan Dempster. It was so bad that I was calling it a Ryan Dumpster trade when it was made. Naturally they collapsed afterward and got overtaken by the A's, and haven't done much of anything since.
Maybe I’m folding myself but wasn’t that Dodgers/Red Sox trade involving Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett a part of that 2012 deadline? Or are we not counting that cuz it was a waiver deadline trade which came after the initial trade deadline
Can you review other deadlines too like early to 2000s to mid mid 2010s?
The infamous Nick Punto trade!
This is why when I hear Mets fans talk about how they won the trade deadline I am always says let’s wait and see how these prospects look..Houston made all those deals and got nothing in return
Myers had previously been a closer for the 2007 Phillies
Can’t believe you forgot the Adrian gonzalez, Carl Crawford trade to the dodgers

while thome's the bigger name, i think the bigger trade for the orioles was for joe saunders. i don't think they win that play-in game without him on the mound
i love ur videos
Im surprised the red sox didnt do muxh with how bad they were this season
3:11 Wait...Padres Joe Musgrove? Edit: Holy hell, indeed it was
Man the Astros have always had great uniforms.
I forgot Thome played on the Orioles
I think you should WRITE that book Jolly
What about Boston trading A-Gon, Crawford, Beckett, and Punto??!
4:40 itd be kind of impressive if he had a negative ERA+ lol
I forgot about Carlos Lee. He was damn good.
While watching this, got the notification that Jordan Montgomery was traded to the Rangers.
Yankees legend Ichiro Suzuki 🔥
We need a Kershaw Dominance video
LaDainian Tomlinson was the 2007 NFL rushing leader
As a dbacks fan that Escobar trade hurts now

Other than shamelessly stealing a Bo Burnham bit at the start, solid video 😂
