The 200 LB HARVEST Garden Tour!
As a horticulturist, teaching and sharing this amazing world of growing your food, utilizing your harvest, and homesteading with our family, is a passion. Every week you'll find us in the garden, working on another aspect of homesteading life, and occasionally just enjoying the wildness of raising a large family in the country. Welcome to the garden, to the kitchen, and to our small farm in South Carolina.
We hope to encourage people to grow their own food, feel confident in homesteading, and live a life both messy and beautiful, because this life comes with a bit of dirt and a lot of love.

Big zucchini are wonderful used like a marrow and stuffed with ragu or risotto. You have a beautiful garden.

I'll have to give this a try! Thank you for the suggestion! 💚
A really good way to use up the giant 'human baby' sized zucchini is to turn it into fermented 'pickles'! You cut it open, scrape out all the seeds and the soft seedy-area (hopefully that makes sense) and then slice what's left. Ferment it with garlic and dill, and it tastes (and crunches) like a crisp pickle! I had my family taste it before telling them it was actually zucchini and they ALL thought it was pickle. I doubt it would work as well with a smaller (softer) zucchini. Maybe Seth would enjoy it since he can't do the cucumbers anyhow!

Love watching your harvest vids and seeing how your veggies look especially for varieties I’ve never seen. Looking forward to finding out how you like the sweet peppers that are supposed to be one of the sweetest in the world. I’ve been harvesting a lot of jalefuegos and violet sparkle peppers. VS are used like a bell pepper but doesn’t have that bitter flavor. They are mild and crunchy. This morning I picked lemon Basil and a couple sprigs of mint to mix with watermelon water. Yum!

I’m so glad to hear it! I’ve never had violet sparkle peppers and I’m excited to look them up! ❤️
When I get beans that get picked a little too late, I give them to my 2 dogs as a treat. They love them! Do you put cucumber in your water pitcher? It is so refreshing. So jealous of your harvest. I'm in zone 7a/b and my stuff just isn't this far along.

We got a really early start this year, I feel like we are definitely ahead of our normal schedule. I love putting cucumbers in our water or juicing them! It's the best! 💚
I found "Morden Early" cucumber to be a little bitter.

My straight 8 were bitter last year. I changed to different varieties this year.

Ours have been as well, we did a cucumber bitterness taste test yesterday and I made a note of it in my gardening book. I'm going to trade them in for another variety next year!

Thank you! And I agree, its always cool to see what others close by are growing.
I garden in Ohio 6b and have a 45x60 no dig garden, so compost and wood chips in the walkways. We built the garden in 2022. Overall it’s such a lovely gardening method and the plants are super happy but I’ve noticed that my peppers and green beans get yellowish at the beginning of the season and need some nitrogen fertilizer due to the wood chips in the walkways. Have you noticed any of that with your peppers? I watched a pepper harvest video from last year and noticed you use a lot of wood chips almost as a bed mulch. Thanks for the help!

I don't typically find that they need much but I'm not against putting some fish emulsion fertilizer down if I find they are looking too yellow! I talked about this a little in a video that came out on Tuesday! If the peppers are in our in-ground garden (which has less nutrition) I would have to use fertilizer someone regularly id think.

@@ShepherdingPeppersFarm thank you! I watched the video when it came out and told myself to calm down and wait for the roots to get a little deeper before doing any fertilizer. My peppers are back to looking normal so it may have even been too much rain last week. Looking forward to your future videos and so happy to have found your channel!

How do you store/keep your harvest from going bad, especially your cucumber?
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm
16 күн бұрын
we wrap the cucumbers in aluminum foil to preserve them for a little longer and then focus on pickling or juicing the excess.
can you please tell me where i can buy those tall metal garden stakes you use for the attached metal trellising? i looked in my home depot and they dont carry it...those grreen stakes with the white tops
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm
25 күн бұрын
Try searching for “fence t-posts.” That is what we have the trellises connected to. Home Depot, Lowe’s, Tractor Supply and others should carry them.
