Rastan was absolutely perfect. I remember when I first saw that game. I walked into my local 7-11 and heard music unlike I had ever experienced before booming across the store...it was epic. The graphics were absolutely stunning and man wss it fun. I spent 4 hours playing that game just trying to beat the first level with friends. Addendum- I was like 8 years old at the time and was supposed to come home from school right after I got off the bus. My friends and I made a "quick" stop for Slurpees. My mother found me playing and was so mad I'm surprised I am not still grounded. Worth it!

This was an epic year. Operation Wolf was probably my favorite. But Double Dragon was probably the first game I fed quarters in with a friend til the final duel with each other.! Afterburner was probably the most visually striking. But it was also the priciest ( maybe 3 quarters in some places) .

Afterburner just blew me away the first time I saw it in the arcades, ditto Thunderblade!

How the hell does this not have more views. Damn...this really shows kids today don't watch or study history at all. I mean I'm 47 and watching every year. Where's the rest of generation X even. Well maybe it's since it hasn't been posted very long. All I can say is I wish you many more views. I collect 80's jamma's and I'm loving this your content. I'm liking and subscribing.

What a fantastic year for the arcades 1987 was, I remember being on holiday in Ingoldmells (Coastfields holiday park) and spent just about spent all my holiday money in the arcades (especially Bells they always had the latest cabinets) APB in particular stood out as the cabinet seemed brilliant at the time. Then there was the anticipation to see which developer got the license to convert the game to my beloved Spectrum. I believe walking circles did a decent job and the reviews where pretty good at the time.

Yeah, I have similar memories of being on holiday in Barry Island at what was the former Butlins camp and playing Double Dragon for the first time. My younger brother and I finally got to Machine Gun Willy to find we had a big crowd gathered behind us watching in anticipation. Unfortunately my brother had a full energy bar and I had one unit - so I promptly lost! Great memory though.

I first played APB when the fun fair visited town. I remember wanting the Spectrum port, which got good reviews, but never saw it in the local shop. But as soon as it came out for the Lynx I was on it like a car bonnet. It's still up there with my favourite Lynx games.

Great list. I remember playing most of these. I am surprised Twin Cobra wasn't on the list.

What a fantastic year for arcade games. I'm so glad I was there to witness it. My personal favourite (from your video) has to be Xybots. It felt like the next stage in gaming. I had similar feelings when I attended a Computer Fair/Show in London in 1987 and witnessed Midi Maze! Can't always be correct, I guess...

Well, I do think MIDI Maze was pretty influential, it was the first link-up FPS game of course!

@@TheLairdsLair Very true. I knew it was linked (the name is a huge clue, plus I think the demo units were, also). I didn't know it was the first. Thank you for teaching me that.

This was the last year I went to the arcade regularly. College and the NES, and later Genesis, simply took away the time/need.

I'd say 1987 was the greatest year for arcade games - and we had amazing commodore 64 games too like the Last Ninja etc I was 14

Would have included Black Tiger myself for this (admitted incredibly jam packed) year, but at least the loincloth trend is well represented via Rastan! (& you did mention it!)
