The 20 Cruelest Arcade Game Over Screens
Ойындар
None of us likes to lose in video games, and even less if we are humiliated with cruel game over screens, right?
Video games, especially in their origins in arcades, have always been associated with challenge and demand from players. Losing a life meant spending money. For this reason, one of the things that nobody wanted, under any circumstances, was to lose a continue.
The game over screen in video games reminded us that we had failed and that we had to dig into our pockets in search of more coins. Not pleasant. That is why some game over screens are engraved in our minds, because of their repeated appearance in difficult games, or because they were so sadistic or mocking that made us suffer even more the defeat
In this video I explore the history of arcade video games, in search of those game over screens that nobody wanted to see.
In this video you will find:
• A game curation showing gruesome bloody, disturbing and humilliating continue screens in arcade games
• Information related to each game such as release date, developer company, game genre and system it was released on.
• Official game box arts with a 3D presentation.
• Educative and/or critical comments on the importance of the video game and why you should play it

⚠️ All gameplay recording, game curation and opinions included in this video, as well as editing is completely done by me
Bits & Beats creates videos about the history of video games. In this channel you'll find comparisons, retrospectives, technical analysis, but, mostly, game curations with the idea of having an important task of preserving video games, and make them relevant to society at large.
Curation isn't just about digging up neat games, but it's also about preservation, interpretation, and using one's knowledge to make it relevant to people. With my videos I want older gamers to look back and remember the influence of video games on their lives, and new gamers to understand the larger context of the series they're playing for the first time today.
I put significant time and creative effort into each one of my videos, including research, digging into archives, playing video games and recording hours of footage, selecting specific clips, writing reviews for each title, and making a very careful video editing in the way to transmit both educational and entertaining values to my audience. Every video takes a lot of hours to produce, because I strive to give my audience a consistent, high-quality content.
Fidelity and preservation of the video games is essential in Bits & Beats, so the recordings are made with the highest bitrate quality. It is done this way to preserve original game look and sound through modern footage, with no superfluous additions. I recommend you watch the video at 4K and 60 frames per second to get the best possible viewing experience.
I hope you enjoy my videos and find them useful!

2 important things: In the Mortal Kombat clip I had to change the song of the fall into the pit because absolutely all the music of this saga has a very restrictive copyright (thanks Warner Bros...); And some continues were too long in length (more than 20 seconds), so I've cut them a little bit to make the video more entertaining to watch. I hope you can understand these little "creative licenses". Enjoy the video!

@@DeAthWaGer So he LITERALLY had a basic death...from either exhaustion or weakened heart. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Looking at it from another perspective, the Fatal Fury Game Over, can you imagine if the creators had put the phrase when you defeat Geese? something like: "Andy Bogard dies in hospital 3 hours after falling from a highrise" that would have made it too cruel for the player.
This got me to thinking on these Game Over screens, in Ninja Gaiden, the words were (neatly) arranged in entrails. Sly Spy is also an underrated Game Over in it's simplicity in showing the consequences of your failure. Capcom's screens ranged anywhere from coercive (Final Fight) to pleading, as in a doctor or healer can't revive you without paying up. The mahjong screen looked like a toned-down Ninja Gaiden for the "step on me, Mommy" set. Comparing Mortal Kombat's screen, which is iconic for the series, if the Ninja Gaiden fate was used in Splatterhouse, would it have made that game more impactful? And on a lighter note, y'all think Tecmo's Team Ninja helped "revolutionize" game physics with the Dead or Alive franchise to atone for their nightmare fuel imagery? Overall, we also have memories of beating the end boss and seeing some good endings to counteract the defeats; perseverance, reflexes, and patience are all qualities in gaming that can be leveraged in the real world. And it's still possible to be a reasonably sane human being after reveling in fictional violence.
As a kid, my broke ass used to feel bad when the blue s journey fairy called me a bad guy for not having coins to continue 😂
I think special attention has to be drawn to the bootleg version of The Lion King where Simba LITERALLY HANGS HIMSELF!

All these are cruel game overs but there's 2 cruel game overs that actually make you feel guilty for not continuing >Take Blue's journey, one woman ask you to continue for raguy but if you don't for atleast few seconds she call you a bad guy because she think you are just another person that don't care pollution and also think that you throw trash everywhere you go, and when it reach zero you see this image that everything in the sky messed up and now you become a monster of mother nature by seeing good air turns into bad smell from smokes and eventually nature is dying slowly >Sly spy is that you see a dozen of missile nuclears is about to launch by multiple locations and once it's fully launch you see everything on the ground destroyed by the nukes, killed countless of innocent people and also it's almost impossible to recover due to dozen of missile nuclears and all around of the planet becoming a nuclear earth war where you cannot breathe so good because of radiation life death threatening, and environment is falling apart and massed suffered damage from the nuclears, I think it's might takes centuries to recover but humanity is also suffered too so all living lifes will unable to live in peace with the PNDW (post-nuclear destruction weapon) thing. Who knows what century will continue after the recover.

Something I picked up is that the game overs music and sound effects are much more energized than the SNES. Combined with the countdown, it tries to get the player to panic and put in another coin right away.

Many of these weren't that brutal, IMO. Also I'd love to see some more modern ones. it's always retro ones they keep bringing up, but I'm pretty sure there must be some brutal and/or cruel ones from recent years in indie games.
7:36 Great, you also gave those poor people heart attacks lmao
Nice. I think I would have given a runner-up award for the Alien Versus Predator arcade game over screen that shows Predator arming his suicide bomb.
0:38 I remembered playing this as a kid and seeing this game over screen tried to press continue repeatedly to no avail got traumatized for a while later realized you need credits that were three if I remember correctly to start again and no save points too Great now I want to play these games again finish them.
I don't remember the name of the game, but it was a fantasy beat em up. You played a warrior with a weapon like in Black Tiger/Black Dragon, a flail like weapon, and can fight monsters....as you beat em up, the monsters' faces got more bloody. The game over screen had the hero in the mouth of some big creature with big teeth, and when the timer reached zero, the mouth closed and you hear the hero screaming. Edit: 2:27 Nevermind. :D
The one from Jojo jumpscared me when i was younger
