Hi Rich, I hope you're well. I've been on this lesson for a while now (two days) and it seems my brain is closed, and not open for business. I get what you're saying, but my way of learning is to put you're thinking onto real time and applying. KZread is chock full of backing tracks for everything, so I saved a 2 5 1 in C with no bass, but with a slightly different tempo. I haven't got the shapes down to fluidity, and the changes come around too quickly. The thing is, like you say, it's a different way of thinking...fer sure! I'm locking myself in the shed on this lesson. Thank you, Sir!

Great Lesson! Definitely more of an intermediate lesson. Always important to know your inversions to make tranitions to other chords easier and to have cool voicings.

@@richbrownbass you alluded to some people being dogmatic about hitting roots on strong beats, but i find this inversion approach really useful in using other chord tones and creating more flowing walking lines, but what sounds good in my bedroom might not sound good on the bandstand. Love to get your thoughts on this.

This is a great practice concept Rich, working those inversions up and down the fingerboard is great exercise, plus it helps to hear the progressions without the root bias. Thanks for a great practical( and musical)workout.🙏🙏

i have watched several of your videos now and I appreciate them. the problem I'm having with the videos is what seems to be an infrequent overdriven crackle. this may be just me but I thought I would mention it anyway. love the brown'stone

Thanks, Larry. In a lot of the earlier videos I was having real problems with the audio. My apologies. With the majority of the more recent videos that crackle is no longer an issue.

Hi rich I just love your channel your smooth sound the tone I love it I have 2 question 1 could you tell us how you set your bass as far as tone question two could you possibly call out the notes with each exercise you do sometimes, but not all the time pls keep showing us your thoughts great stuff

Can any experienced player watching this video lesson answer my question please? At timescale 12:00 Mr Brown talk about the 2 chord and he played the D minor chord (stretching over 5 frets) so my question really is; How do I play that 2 chord if my fingers don't quite stretch? Do I practice to stretch and hold the shape till I get it? Is that the way with most chord shapes just practice to hold and stretch? Just asking to make sure and confirm as I want to be able to make and hold chord shapes I struggle with. Thank you for responding replying and answering. Following learning bass player

I would say that it is in my case. I'm self-taught, which has made me more of an "ear" player. It's probably not the same for everyone.

Sir please forgive my foolishness but I'm slightly confused sir With the 2 chord are we playing Dmin or Dmin7 sir? Like when it comes to the 1st and 2nd inversions sir are we playing Dmin inversions or Dmin7 inversions or does it not matter? Can Dmin and Dmin7 inversions be mixed up? I'm asking because I have being trying to follow the video and watched it quite afew times to get understanding but at timescale 1:08 you say Dmin and at 2:32 you sat Dmin7. So I was trying to work out the inversions but kinda struggling sir. Sorry my apologies just making sure I practice right sir
