The 1985 KX125 Restoration Project

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The 1985 KX125 was an incredibly fast bike, and a bike that so many up and coming Team Green support riders were winning on. Ride with Brady Brandwood as he finds one of these amazing old bikes and restores it to a beautiful near new form, and shows the details and tips of the entire restoration.

My best mate taught me the fundamentals on an old 78-80 little RM50....such fun. My dad then bought me my very own first bike when I was around 11 or 12yrs old. It was an air cooled late 80s KX80 which blew my mind. It was so quick for an 80cc little ripper! The power band on that thing was so much fun! My dad wasn't a small guy and it used to pull him up the road with the front wheel lifting with no issues at all. My love of bikes came from a very early age watching my father ride and fettle around with his bikes. All my friends in the village had bikes and we lived right next to an old coal mine so naturally we had amazing tracks that we had ridden in over the years. I've ridden bikes my whole life and have the injuries and scars to prove it😲🙃 I stopped riding off road a few years ago now as my back, hips and knees can't take it. I still have a few roadbikes but again with my body the way it is I keep them for nostalgia more than anything. I probably ride 2 or 3 times at the most all season. Its damn near impossible to get bikes out of your blood if you've beeb brought up with them! The bikes your restoring are the bikes I grew up with. There wad nothing like the rush of a 2stroke, especially when you have them a good hammering! I've owned quite a few beautiful modern 4strokes, they are gorgeous to ride but they don't have that "I'm going to kill u any second" feeling to them. Their almost too easy to ride! I came to your channel via some Leon the lobster dude that got a second chance in life, I then found out your a 2smoke guy. That deserves a sub I feel. Loved the story about the moonshine too mate. I would love to hear more old stories like that. It might have been a harder life but damn it sounded like they had some fun. Keep well From Wales U.K🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I was rapted watching this. Was my first bike back on Guam a lifetime ago. I was finally cleared to get a bike by my parents in June of 84. There was not a single 125 on the island and had to wait till the 85s came in. 4 months went off the clock. I must have called the Kawasaki dealership 50 times. I could hardly believe it when they said it was here. Best day of my 15 yo life was picking it up. When you started it up, I closed my eyes and a rush of memories flooded over me. Thank you.

I love restoring old motorcycles also. I don't have the time and space to restore cars but wanted projects I could do with my boys. They all have to help me restore their 1st dirtbike like I did when I was a kid with my uncle. I find that they take care of it better when they put their sweat into bringing one back to life. Building a kx60 for my 7 year old, a 2000 yz80 for my 10 year old and a 2005 yz125 for the 16 year old.

I raced one of these back in 1985👍. Really liked that bike. My first Kawasaki; my father had just started a Kawasaki franchise in Warrenton Oregon so we were going Green👍. I really enjoyed those years, 1985-1988, racing KX’s. I think that ‘85 bike was my favorite. Such a great motor, good ergonomics, the bike was physically small and compact. Me and a very fast local racer, Bret Stevens, traveled all over the northwest that year. Great times. Super nice job on the restoration!

Beautyfull restoration! loooved that bike!. A few things: small KIPS aluminum cover was black and the letters were brushed aluminum. Airbox cover, the round holes were covered from behind, with thin, black, open cell air foam and, it was attached with 3, one piece phillips screws (the large head ones Kawasaki loved so much. Your fuel tank cap is cracked, don't let it spill on your nice decals!. You should always grease the "o" rings on the pipe, they will last longer, install easyer. Nice job!!!!!!

That’s awesome! Yeah, I’m real impressed with the engine on this bike as a 1985.

You would never EVER triple quad triple with an 85 KX 125. I raced a 85 kx 125 it was my favorite bike of all time. I loved that bike. I switched from Honda to kawasaki that year and moved to A class that year and won a lot of races that year it had so much more power than the Hondas I was racing but again it would never triple quad triple. I did race it in the Atlanta Supercross on amateur day and finished 2nd in the A class. And I did double and triple everything that the pros did the night before. But back then I don't think anyone even dreamed of a quad. Just tripling was a feat in itself. But still a great bike.

I have driven dirt bikes all my life, but never learned how to do my own repairs, i wish i had someone that would have taught me that stuff, it seems like it would be a great hobby. Sorry about the break in, that sucks man.

In 3rd place when the chain broke, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you were doing well in that race. Amazing restoration job here on this Kawasaki.

Thanks for sharing the tip on the vintage KYB forks, I've got a pair on my 85 rm 250 , didn't know how to get the seals changed.

Hey thank you for watching. The socket nut size I used for separating the forks is actually a 27 mm. Yours may be a different size though, so you might have to try a few. ✌️✌️✌️

Pricks indeed. My garage was broke into once, they stole some tools. I am still amazed/thankful by what they didn't steel though.

I agree, once you added the tank decal, it all made sense. Would there be some kind of gloss, you could put on the tank? Looks great though, man...

Nice! I used to have a 85' CR80, and my buddy had that same KX125. I always used to give him crap, cause I liked Honda haha, but his bike was hella fast!

I had one of these brand new! I loved that bike! I'm pretty sure they called it the "Jeff Ward Replica", but maybe that was the 1984 version.

Brad thanks Brother. I use to have a KX1984... oh and check out: Captain I mean Kaplan America 1986 Kawasaki KX125 - Bressler Collection Feature All of these were Rocket ships and I had a time of my life. On 7th grade graduation day I went down to a neighborhood track where all the many older kids were and they saw me and I had a bottle of 100 proof Vodka and I felt my hair looked like Block Glover's when he was in 1978...and they all had yz 100's and Cr 250s and mostly to throw a mode into this story, they had little sisters and in a huddle of resting we all swigged several round s of shots and the leader asked `Hey aren't you suppose be at graduation'" and I looked at him' His name was Punky and his hair was up and black like Nikki Sixx and I was F.................... . and from that moment I had made a best friend for the rest of my High school. My point: Its emotional . these bikes encapsulate not only the memory's but the emotions, like listening to a old song from a incredible time. Rock on man! Oh to up date...The next week all the fellows started coming over to my house with their bikes `to go ride' and my mom looked like` Farrah Fawcett' from Charlies angles and any how, my new friend Punk helped me do my room up with Kiss pics and albums from the 77 and this was in 1984 and a week later he came over with an extra concert ticket and back stage passes to this new band call Motley Crue "Telling--me--that--we--are--going!....... Theses bikes hold the past to me and I fell that my story about how my `motorcycles held these attachments and emotions' is only like a `could be;' series of similar of a "Chicken soup for the souls." with what so many are reminded of when they see a bike that matched the one that they had during a time during a surreal moment in life. Rock on every body...Post me a synopsis here if by now, you can simplify you grand time with life from a bike... Are there any Xr 80 honda riders that have a story or two...
