Officially, they are a private security company. The Pope did use to have a Palatine Guard two battalions strong (to answer Stalin's question on how many battalions did the Pope have. Last on guard duty during WWII and disbanded by Paul IV circa 1965.

It's a country recognized by most countries. I didn't know this until I did quizzes on a site a friend told me about. There was one in particular like name all of the countries that start with v and Vatican was the one I missed. They have an agreement with Italy that they will defend them. Vatican is smallest country if I remember correctly.

@Geo DnB Cuba modernized it's army in 2011 and it is the only country in the Caribbean along side with Venezuela with a competent air Force and navy plus Cuba has big contracts with China and Russia and Cuba has the biggest air defense systems in Latin America and the Caribbean with a lot of short to medium range systems ((the only one in Latin America ))) lol Bahamas only has 1300 soldiers not even the Dominican republic Bahamas Jamaica Haiti combined will match Cuba keep dreaming

First of all it's "its" and secondly it seems not to be a fact. L'Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo has 98 musicians according to the Association Française des Orchestres and an additional staff of 18 people (although the info is from 2019 and I currently can only find 89 musicians on the official homepage so either not all of them are listed, they lost some or the Association had a mix-up and meant 89). If we take the higher number and include the additional staff (which shifts the numbers in favour of the Orchestra since the sources do not include civilian employees for the military numbers), we would be at 116 people. According to the official site, the Carabiniers du Prince currently have a military personnel of 124 which would already be 8 people more than the Orchestra plus staff and not vice versa. Additionally, the Firefighters in Monaco also are a branch of the military and add another 142 people according to their own website. So while the Orchestra is impressive and the military is small, the former is not larger than the latter even if we exclude the Pompiers.

4th oldest army, and then technically not an army, just a military unit. They are more an honor guard and police force than an actual military unit. I'd have a hard time calling them a military when their highest ranked officer is a colonel.

I could've sworn that lichtenstein, luxembourg, the vatican, andorra and san marino would've been on this list. Propably because half of those have no standing army or have armies in tens or just a couple hundred.

My Mom had a 45ft cabin cruiser and they had to anchor outside the Bahamas. She feared pirates and got up on deck with an M-16 in her bikini and told the pirates that she wouldn't go down without a fight! She was immediately hit with flood lights from a coast guard cutter and was told "This is the Bahamian Defence Force! Lower your weapon and prepare to be boarded!" They were looking for drug smugglers and one of the Bahamians even weighed themselves on the bathroom scales, lol. And they were perfectly safe from pirates that night.

My uncle was in the flamingo disaster , which was when Cuba attacked the Bahamian naval ship . He is still alive today .

But these are State sponsored uniformed military forces whose members consist primarily of foreign troops. So yes they do count as a military. Try saying they don't to a Legionnaire if you don't believe me.
