Even when the Cold War ended in the late 20th century, a fragile peace remained over the planet . Some new military powers emerged to challenge the balance of the established powers. The race in armament production and the building up of military strength continued, and in the second decade of the 21st century, the world's armies have grown to a level never seen before in history.

Quote from an ex-general who was an advisor from 2000-2005: “Less tanks than Switzerland and a smaller Navy than the Netherlands.” Though with the recent budget increase to 60 billion and the potential onetime 109 billion payment (that has to be decided first by parliament), that may soon change. If everything goes to plan then the money will be split like this (according to the Federal broadcasting service ARD): - 10 billion for the Deutsche Marine - 40 billion for the Luftwaffe - 27 billion for modern air combat technology - 17 billion for the Heer The rest will probably go into other things like spare parts, modernisation, etc. Though as a German, I do hope that the modernisation of the Bundeswehr goes without problems and that it can be the strong and feared army it once was in the Cold War.

Dang, the US having 11 aircraft carriers. Besides the cost, all those carriers always being in a fleet;escorted by other naval ships and submarines plus flying escorts. A military base you could position anywhere in the seas! Not to mention the most combat-experienced military, in basically every front. Plus producing new military hardware. And I find it also amazing that India can train alongside the US, and even Russia and China, such an invaluable experience and knowledge. i don't think numbers alone can be easily compared, a lot depends on the potential reserves, mobilization state, and the actual number of active personnel that can be deployed to any particualar area. The Russian war in ukraine is a perfect example of this, on paper russia's military is far larger, but on the ground ukraine actually has more manpower reserves because it has mobilized its entire defense force. same with many nations throughout history, during times of peace nations tend to keep small active armies, but in times of national emergency reserves ca be called up, conscription introduced, and general mobilization initiated. As such it is not possible to compare sizes of armies across different nations in different circumstances.

It didn't sink, there are pictures of it being towed back to port. Also, that's not something "huge", it's one missile cruiser. The An-225 was because it was the largest plane in the world, and it being destroyed was a big deal. I'd much prefer a video on the Battle of Mariupol video, describing the battle and also talking about how Ukranians held civilians hostage as meat shields, or how torture victims were found under Azov's base.
