The 1100 Club LOVE The BMC 1100/1300 ADO16!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

WIN with Lancaster Insurance: bit.ly/3YxfBbI
The BMC ADO16 perfectly demonstrated the engineering prowess of BMC in the 1960s and 70s, becoming Britain’s best-selling car. Whether in Austin, Morris, Wolseley, MG or Riley guise, the 1100 and 1300 range proved a smash-hit and today, is a charming yet affordable example of a British classic. We invited its biggest fans, the 1100 Club to The Great British Car Journey museum to show us their stunning cars - restored, daily-driven and modified - and find out why they love the ‘big Mini’ so much!

Some people may mock the “badge engineering” but I think t gives each model their own unique character and kept the old marques alive.

Love Gordon's attitude to being in a classic car club...the car does not have to be perfect or 100% original to get out and enjoy!

My late dad's first brand new car was a black 1965 Morris 1100. Dad and Mum and myself and two younger brothers and a younger sister all piled in to the "Black Beauty" for many a family holiday and picnic day. I can still remember the number plate (in New South Wales Australia) was DWA-998. It was our family car until 1971 when Dad traded it in on a Valiant Charger. I remember Dad did all the maintenance on the Morris 1100, and the hydrolastic suspension was amazing.

I had no interest in classic cars until, walking home one day, I spotted a Vanden Plas 1300. I loved it and couldn't stop admiring it. That was me hooked and, even though there are many exotics to admire, I still love ADO16.

Allways loved the ADo16 Beautiful design, well built. The big problem that the allegro had was, it just wasn’t as good as the car it was supposed to replace

When I was 9 years old, I learned how to drive in the MG version of it. My dad would take my brother and me to a beach car park on early Sunday mornings to teach us the basics. There was no escape to becoming a petrolhead. 😂

Had an Austin 1300 Mk2 in 1973/4, a Riley 1300 Mk2 in 1987-89, and a Wolseley 1300 Mk2 in 1992-4. All were great cars, would have another if I had the money and a garage.

Oh God. The ones I bought and cannibalised for the engines to use in Minis. MG and Riley 1100's to begin with and then the 1275 MG's and GT's when they started to fail MOT's on rust. They were a great car really. So nice to drive and I wish more had been saved. But 40+ years ago, nobody cared.

Lovely little cars! My late uncle was an old school mechanic and modified his, to be able to do a true 105mph on a level road and at the coast. A true, small sleeper, because looking at it, you would NEVER think, that it had such capabilities!

Interesting that very few of those that were most popular and the ones most people know - the 'plain' Morris and Austin saloons. I remember the scalding hot rear ashtrays. ... although I suppose it might well be that the 'badge engineering' ones were looked after more, so survived better?

In our family we had a 1966 Morris 1100 from 1974 and a 1972 Morris 1300 from 1984 to 1993. Sadly the 1100 was stolen and the 1300 failed its roadworthy for rust in 1993. Great little cars in their day, don’t see many of them around anymore

it was a larger Mini. This time with Italian styling. The boot still not very large. same engine with gearbox in sump. Then there was the liquid suspension. With 4 people inside it would sink a bit low. would not want to drive it on today's motorways .

Brilliant cars, had a 1972 Wolseley 1300 and a 1970 Austin 1300 Automatic, both great cars, and if looked after bodywise and mechanically they can be used on a daily basis.

Love the ADO16. My first car was an 1100 and my second car was an 1100 S which was an Aussie thing. It had a 1275 cc engine but single carb. Some varied and lovely examples there.

The Australian built Morris 1100S was a strange misnaming in my opinion. I don't know why it wasn't named the Morris 1300 like the British built 1275 cc ADO16.

Gonna be honest my very first car was an Austin 1300 (1973 L reg I seem to remember) paid £125 for it back 1982 off a family friend and it was not great. Car used to rip out the centre of clutches for some reason which I never really got to the bottom of. Highlight of mine was the 1300GT wheel trims I managed to find from somewhere for it. P/X for £150 against a £400 Ford Cortina 1600E.

This is the thing about UK classic car clubs they one model of one car or motorcycle although the manufacturer made a lot of different models and l noticed a station wagon (estate car) amoungst the various Morris 1100 1300 in Australia these were common in the 1960s and 70s in Australia

Could never understand why the 1100/1300 never got a reskin in the 12 years of it's production? It was Britains best selling car for most of the time. A contempary body with a hatchback option and better rust proofing would have seen the car through to the 80s.

The 1100 series cars were the best engineered family cars . Strong , economy, and very dependable. Sadly speaking , in Britain, they don’t make such cars anymore, even with today’s technology. Unfortunately. Thanks

They had a bad eputation for rusting, but this won't be too much of a deal breaker today, if you can get all parts.
