The 1000 METER Infrastructure Train & 6 Diesel Locomotives

Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday. If you enjoy the video, hit the like button & subscribe here for weekly updates on Schony747 - www.youtube.co...
This week Schony747 features the 1000 Meter SSR Broad Gauge Infrastructure Train. The train was sent to Seymour from Melbourne to help bed down some new cement railway sleepers. The train did multiple trips over a number of days between Seymour and Managalore which is located north of Melbourne. Once again, SSR rolled out the vintage locomotive consist lead by the ever popular B Class Streamliners. The consist was in push pull mode with 48 wagons in between.

Thankyou for bringing us another ripper Brendan. I think a lot of GV residents who use the train to Melbourne will be thankful for these upgrades. A bit of a pity the ‘N sets’ are gone now, but I guess that’s progress.

Great video. Do these streamlines still lead trains or are they all now retired? If not yet how much longer will they be in service?

They still lead train but more often than not are trailing units. They will be around for as long as SSR here in Victoria see them as a viable option for running trains.

What was the actual purpose for the train running to Seymour and back? Did they deliver ballast in those containers? Or rail? Seemed like a lot of empty wagons in both directions.

I've seen in America when they use 6 loco's, as well as other configurations, , they sometimes have have two in the middle.

QLD coal trains used to do a similar thing didn’t they? With a radio transmitter car in the middle as well?

The use of mid locos is not overly common here. You'll find a few on coal trains in such places as the Hunter Valley and ore trains in Western Australia but it's not Common on mainline freights

At Seymour they could probably stable the train between Seymour and Mangalore as it was a total occupation. The other option would be Seymour loop just south of Seymour
