I mean I get it. but to be fair, other than her last split decision loss she had only lost in title fights (or a champion IE, Schevchenko) and beat EVERYONE else. And she arguably could have won an rematch with a draw if not a victory had they taken the point away (that they should have) from de randomize for their bout. And when they stripped her for the belt and were having cyborg fight someone for the belt they had NO ONE in the division except for holly Holm who could have potentially won the belt on the last bout. Amanda was still just a 135lber at the time.

Some people don’t know anything about getting arrested. Also in most states you don’t have the choice.. if someone calls the cops and you were assaulted the cops Will more often than not press charges on their own no matter what you say. It happened into me when I was 16 and got the upper hand in a fight. The kid didn’t want to press charges but the cops did

Jorge stepped in on short notice first fight, second fight wasn't an immediate rematch and gave Jorge a full camp. Colby has already had two cracks at Usman. I don't think people have issue with his shots against Usman, those were great fights. But a third title shot after a year of inactivity? Excluding Masvidal, Colby hasn't won since 2019. Colby sells so he'll get the shot, but I totally understand the criticism.

I think the fact the UFC are pushing him this hard is evidence of his popularity. Imagine how obnoxious he would be as a defending champ? He'd definitely pull a lot of eyes.

@@etlonjonh I can see that, but I'm personally gonna hold off on calling him a PPV draw just yet. People might click on videos involving him, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will buy PPVs for him and him alone. The fight night he had with Lawler did fairly bad. Usman v Covington 2 did pretty well, but that might be because of his interaction with Usman, not just him by himself (Usman's previous PPV with Masvidal did around the same numbers). His PPV numbers with Usman for the first fight were never revealed. His numbers for the fight night with Woodley were good. 272 against Masvidal did well. Seems fairly positive, but he's been the B side to a dominant champion in Usman and a Masvidal coasting off his popularity from a few years ago. He was arguably the A side to Lawler and Woodley, but both were former champions. Would significantly more people pay to watch Leon fight him than they would to watch Leon fight anyone else? I don't think they will.

“Leon didn’t fight for almost two years” -his fights were cancelled due to the COVID (both him Chimaev testing positive on 2 occasions), even with that he was on a 9-win streak and Usman had almost lapped the division. We all know what’s going on: there’s no way Colby *deserves* this title shot when he’s 3-2 in his last 5 (and vs 3 ranked outside of top 10). “He showed up to be the backup and made weight” is no excuse. This is (a) an arrangement for him dropping the charges against Masvidal so Jorge could still fight, (b) building up a possible Connor-Colby title fight for a massive PPV (in the case Colby beats Leon, and Connor beats Chandler), (c) BOTH. I’m fine with all the politics, I’m not fine with the BS

Sorry, how do Masvidal and Covington have the same story? I'll admit it might not be the most convincing effort between title shots, but Colby at least maintained his status as a contender.

Well, Dana just said in the press conference after 287 that Trump calls him a couple times a month, and Colby and Masvidal were his favorite fighters, and then went on to say how indebted the UFC is to Trump for support in the early days.Colby is a good fighter, but he just lost twice to Usman, Leon just beat Usman twice.Colby doesn't have a single win over a top 15 ranked welter weight, every win Colby has in the last 4 years is over guys all on 2 fight losing streaks, all over the age of 36, and all out of the UFC, because of age, I think there are only 2 guys Colby has beaten that are still in the UFC.The UFC as well as other powerful people want Colby to get that belt.

Damn, even MMA on Point is erasing Randy Couture. Won his first HW title, left the promotion and went 2-2. Came back and fought for the HW title in his first fight, left the promotion again and went 1-1. Fought the HW title off a loss outside the UFC won it, then two fights later loses it again. Next fight is for the vacant HW title and he loses that. So they ship him down to LHW for an immediate title fight (on a 2 fight skid) where he wins. Two fight later, he loses again but wins the immediate rematch. Then he loses it to Chuck, fights a non ranked guy and is right back in there with Chuck again for title. He loses that, retires (again) from the fight game and is brought back to HW for an immediate title fight. That's 5 title shots coming off a loss in his last fight and 17 title fights having never put together a 3 fight win streak.

Some of these guys get title shots for being popular and most champions get a title shot for being very good and having skill worthy of a champion from the start, but most of the people on this list i feel they kept getting title shots for being some of the most solid professionally wise fighters in the ufc. They were always active, fought anyone, never heard any controversies, they never badmouth the company and very important the people like them. They are all sick fighters who do their job very good.

From a strictly business perspective Masvidal with a win would've been a more lucrative fight than Colby Leon. That's what confused me, Dana's statements and insistence on it being Colby is what seemed weird to me. Prior to this Dana would say "I don't make fights on Saturday night" him saying that there's no shot that Jorge Gilbert affects the title shot is what surprised me. I'm assuming the UFC has a hand in mediating the Jorge Colby lawsuit and this title shot is to stop that suit. Now that Jorge lost I suppose I don't have too many issues with Colby getting this shot

I mean you’re on point for a large majority of these but I feel as if there’s more for sure or some that should be in there instead of certain people. How 1. Pereira and 2 Lesner aren’t on here is confusing. 3. Romero getting it after losing his two shots at Whitaker not too long before and to Costa just before it. While Costa gets skipped by Romero weird. 4. McGregor after tapping like chicken 8 months prior and then fighting a super close fight vs the same guy who sub’d him so why didn’t Diaz get the shot? Also it was at a different weight class so that’s makes absolutely no sense at all. Colby you can leave off he gave the Champ his best fight and in a thriller and at the time Usman looked nearly flawless so that made sense. Jorge’s first and second shots were meh. But it’s tough to label fill in guys who get a shot because they agree last second to fight to save the card. So I’d put Pereira Romero and McGregor instead of Chael Joanna and Colby.
