The 10 Longest Narrative Films Ever Made

Фильм және анимация

The 10 longest narrative films ever made. This list of the longest movies does not include experimental films, art installations, or movies separated in parts. It's a list of the longest cinematic films. Let me know in the comments if you'd want me to make a video covering the longest experimental films, too.

Going into this I expected some of these longest films to be documentaries and historical narratives and I was still surprised by the subject matter in these films. They definitely seem experimental not just with time but also with film and editing methods, such as making very little cuts, using purely original, raw footage and it's so incredible how well they've done from visuals and reviews. They also seem to push for some strong "h-u-m-a-n-i-t-a-r-i-a-n" narratives that capture real struggles and stories of strife and conflict and persistence and intimacy. It's not easy to tell these sensitive stories or depict these rough events and do them justice in simply 2 or 3 hours, and I commend these works for taking those risks and making their mark.

Well said. I was fascinated by how none of the Top 10 are long just for the sake of being 'the longest movie', and they all are looked at as genuinely good movies. And if any film deserves to be long it's some of these that allow for voices to be heard that otherwise wouldn't have the chance.

Ironically, not your longest video 🤔 missed opportunity smh. I LOVED the line you said about the mummification in time - because that’s one of the concepts I’m most obsessed about when it comes to film (documentaries and fiction, alike). To see a moment captured and recall a memory at any moment - is magic. I’m interested in seeing some of these! Notably the ones that were mentioned as least amount of cuts. I love raw human emotion, what an artistic display of it here! Thank you for this video 😊

My first plan was to make this 'The 30 longest movies ever made' but after the top 10 movies as much as I found them interesting all the info quickly got a bit redundant. And 100% agree, preserving a moment in time with movies/videos is the closest thing to magic that we have.

It’s a real shame this video doesn’t have the views the iceberg ones do. This is just as interesting and having them be actual narrative films instead of the 800th list about a man who filmed a building for 53 days, actually kept me wondering how long we would get by the end

I am a filipino and honestly the films that filipino films appeared in the list is revolutionary cause here the film genre can be only 3 Family, unfaithful SO and good vs. Evil, or Philippine version of kdrama so by showing the truth about the lives of our fellowmen, we got a glimpse of the realities of division on wealth and living standard and also in my whole life i think the filipino director ( i forgot his name, i apologizes) doesn't even get a cultural award nor got knowledge his works by other people including the media which is sad that hey care more about their companies works than other companies works plus we get a genre here called indie and despite showing the realities of current generation it wasn't even well received only handful.

In relation to slow cinema, I really like Goodbye Dragon Inn. Since i watched Dragon Inn beforehand, it helped the experience. It's very short compared to other films in the movement but it's beautiful. Out 1 was a pretty good movie, i watched it in a day :D La Flor is one of my favourite movies of all time, it's just fantastic. Watched it in a week. Need to watch Amar Ekta Cinema Banao.

Subscribed hope to see more videos like this, i like videos with obscure facts and I did not know there was a movie that was 35 days long until I watched your lass video i did the rough math on how long that would take to watch, if you worked only 40 hours a week and slept 8 hours a day, it would take you 12 weeks to watch that movie that does not include any time you would need for things like eating. anyway really enjoyed hope to see more soon.

I thought that Shoah would be on this list. I'm sure it's going to be the only film on this list that I've actually seen. This movie is so completely heartbreaking. There's a guy at the beginning of the film who was the only survivor of his death camp and he survived because the Germans liked the way that he sang it's probably best to try to watch this film as a part one and a part two and maybe even on separate days. Never forget the Holocaust.

Philippine cinema has been plagued with this conundrum of accurately presenting the lives and plight of the Filipino family. 99.99999% of movies here are corny retellings with dogshit scripts. Diaz’s solution was to simply not summarize anything. Life here is slow. Traditions are oral. Most people function on hope. A lot of the time it doesn’t come.

I bet a lot of these movie could be broken up into parts, cause when you think about it, something like "Lord of the Rings" is really a 9-hour movie broken up into 3 parts. You can say this about lot of trilogies and shared movie universes. The movies shown here, IMO are made by people who just don't know how to edit, and/or are too artsy fartsy to care about making their stories accessible to the general public.
