As someone who recently became vegan, really appreciate you taking a dive into these options. Definitely looking forward to more vegan content.

Oh that's great! Probably not a ton more vegan stuff coming out here but hope you stick around for my love of textiles??
Thank you for providing us with these vegan options. Leather production is not always a by-product of the meat industry. Many times an animal is raised for leather as leather is more valuable than flesh in countries like India. Either way, leather production involves an animal that has to die to get it's skin, a factory worker in India has to get chemical poisoning and cows are very water, land and resource intensive so leather production is horrible for the environment when you take into consideration the life time of that animal. There is much more to leather than most people realize. The film Dominion Documentary shows all of this.
Leather isn't a byproduct of the meat industry, just as a note. Leather is a co-product, the leather industry is a supply and demand industry (your money goes towards the meat industry, thus supporting the meat industry financially) and harmful chemicals are used to tan leather that cause human and environmental harm. Many animals are raised FOR leather and their "low quality meat" is used as pet food or low quality ingredients in pies/soups. Yes leather may well to in the trash if not tanned, but that's significantly better for the environment and also doesn't financially support the supply and demand of animal products. If you wouldn't buy fur, you shouldn't buy leather. Regardless, this list was very informative of what brands are out there and extremely helpful for those of us looking for a solid Vegan boot. Remember, if you don't need to consume animals or what comes out of them/off of their body, then paying for the products that come from their bodies is needlessly supporting their mass breeding, exploitation and slaughter. You wouldn't pay for it to happen to dogs, so be consistent. Be vegan. 🙂💚
Although I'm not a vegan myself, I dig what the industry is attempting. Good guys don't wear leather, wills vegan store, and brave, claim to have a Goodyear welt/Blake stitch construction. With multiple color options available, and materials that claim to be as 'durable' as leather at a competitive $150-300 price range it's on par with some of the most popular boots in that price bracket. Maybe Rose Anvil or Trenton and Heath can one day put that durability to the test. Would make for some good content.
I wish someone would make boots out of hemp I'd definitely buy a pair.most people don't realize how amazing hemp is and how many things can be made from it not to mention its a renewable resource and can be recycled. hemp is absolutely amazing gift of the planet that is slept on since it was made illegal it's slowly making a come back as a building material .

I'm on a mission to make a 100% hemp jacket one day, I was just talking about it with some textiles guys in London. It'd cost like a thousand bucks with the supply chains the way they are but I know someone would buy it!

I question how waterproof hemp could be. Without turning them into stone.
Great video, note here from a vegan: leather isn’t entirely a by product of the meat industry. The documentary dominion has a lot of information about it :)
Just bought Will's Vegan workboots, I'm excited!
Thank you so much for this video. Very nice to see all the different vegan brands available. And indeed is hard to find a pretty vegan boot, Wills is the closest one.
Wahey - I think I may have suggested this a while back Nick. Many thanks.
Very cool, thank you Stridewise
Good video. The products will keep getting better, companies won't want to miss out on the vegan £/$, they will want to sell more than others, same as plant milk, there used be about 1 brand in the past, now supermarkets have a whole section
This is great, Nick. Not a vegan myself, but I still found this really interesting.
Just scrolled through looking for something like this! Been vegan for 13 years and hunting for the perfect boot. These look great. I don’t expect you’ll make another vegan vid, but I appreciate this one.
Hey, great video! You should check out Grenson's vegan range too, fully GYW and some up to date styles

Nice video, as a vegan that's helpful. I'm surprised you didn't mention Solovair. I have a pair of vegan Solovair, it's a collab with the brand Vegeterian shoes, and I think they are better than Doc Martens.I don't buy shoes very often, I make do with the Solovairs I mentioned, some vegan new balance sneakers and pairs of Converses. If you ever find vegan leather jackets, please make a video!
I really like the look of brave gentleman's chelsea boots, and their monk strap dress shoes. Their loafers were odd, and their white sneakers look decent.
Great vid!
finally, great video

glad you found it dude!
Greetings from Mexico! Thanks so much for this Nick! After taking a deep dive into the unbiased facts and science of climate change, animal suffering, and nutrition, I become vegan 3 years ago. My only regret is not seeing the light earlier. My beliefs and values are now much more in line with my actions. Not to mention a huge improvement in overall health! HOWEVER, as a lover of boots, sneakers, etc I would being lying if I said there weren't some withdrawal symptoms! 😂 Changing my diet was easy. Footwear was tough. I've been babying my old leather boots and sneakers, and meticulously conditioning, religiously using shoe trees, etc in the hope I will get more and more life out of them. So, good to see there are some decent vegan options out there. I imagine they will get even better and there will be even more over time. Please keep us posted if you find anything new and exciting in the vegan footwear world. The demand is really increasing for these products and is expected to keep growing!

I'd definitely have a look at Wills, I can say from experience that they're comfy as well as lovely looking. I currently have 5 different pairs (boots and shoes), and they've all lasted at least 5 years. I bought my oldest pair 9 years ago, and I'm literally wearing them today
I think the best option is to buy second-hand GYW shoes/boots. You're not participating in consumption and production of animal products. That, of course, can be still too far for some vegans. But it's probably more environmentally friendly than the options you've mentioned.

Good point you raised. This is something that is debated in the vegan community. I have heard arguments on both sides and see the logic on both sides. However, buying second hand actually MAY cause some increase for demand of leather. Albeit indirectly. Also, some vegans see this as still promoting and normalizing the use of leather. In addition, they feel it sends a confusing message to those who don't really understand what being vegan is all about. Personally, I'm on the fence a bit.

Interesting video Nick, I learned a lot. Thanks!
Some of these comments. Just don’t watch if you don’t care about this topic. Just don’t buy vegan boots if they don’t interest you! It’s a growing market in an industry this channel reports on. Nothing wrong with reporting on it. Nothing wrong with people who want vegan boots. Just let people live their lives they aren’t hurting anybody and neither is this video. And no I’m Not a vegan and I don’t own nor want vegan boots. I just enjoy Nick and learning new things. I also don’t get angry when people like different things than I like. Oy vey

Its a bit of a ridiculous concept for a boot, you have to admit. You dont support a by product of the meat industry, but youll gladly buy a pair of fake leather boots made of plastic which are going to wear out faster and fill up a landfill with non biodegradable material. Its pretty silly.
drag him, kings
Virón use apple leather in a lot of their shoes.
Did you actually wear these boots? I ask because Wills Vegan Shoes’ “work boot” is super stuff and has almost no flex. I bought them for work, I’m a plumber, and they were awful. Maybe by “work” they mean the office, but everyone I know buying work boots is in a trade.
Most vegan leather is a lot more durable than cow hide!
Interesting! Not vegan (like you I was vegetarian until I killed and ate a rooster), but sustainable technologies matter to me
Well, we have this brand called NEEMAN who makes footwear using WOOL...I believe it is worth considering

Wool production, an industrial process shearing thousands of sheep as quickly as possible, with no concern for the extreme stress, fear, injuries. I get that people would think it's just a haircut though, but unfortunately not.
🥰🥾👍
The PVC ones are kind of ridiculous. If you're environmentally conscious enough to make the vegan plunge, it doesn't make much sense to me to be buying things made of non-biodegradable petroleum products. The other ones are very neat though. The cactus leather, pineapple leather, and cork ones seem especially cool (I love the way the cork looks, personally).
@Stridewise
Жыл бұрын
Get a cork one and do a review for me! I get the PVC isn't good for the environment but like, a) neither is cattle farming and b) there are lots of other reasons people go vegan besides environmental reasons

@@Stridewise Yeah, fair, but since going vegan is already good for the environment, you may as well choose the eco-friendly option when doing so, right? Just my take on it though.
@stephenremington8448

PVC is not ideal, but it can be recycled into new products or shredded for filler or insulation purposes. Here in the UK there are public recycle bins, one for clothes, one for shoes, one for glass etc. And charity shops will take bags of worn out shoes or bags of worn out clothes for recycling, they get a small amount of cash by weight.
You bash docs and then include them in a video! Docs are not hard to resole.
