CB Traits
Man Coverage (MCV): Ability to stick in a Receivers hip pocket from start to finish In Man Coverage or Zone-Match
Zone Coverage (ZCV): Combination of route recognition, proper risk assessment when in a zone assignment
Press Coverage (PRS): Self Explanatory
Press Style: Notation of whether the Corner prefers and/or is better in Jam or Bail from a Press allignment. Could be Either.
Route Squeeze (RSQ): The combination of physical and mental ability to react quickly at a route's breaking point once a receiver has begun seperating, to snap onto the route and not allow unnecessary seperation.
Ball Skills (BLS): Players composure with the ball in the air to get his head around, find the ball, and not grab when the ball is in the air. Higher grades are given to those who convert interceptions as opposed to swatting the ball.
Run Defense (RUN): The combination of a players' physical ability and willingness to shed blocks and defend the run.
Tackling (TKL): Self Explanatory
CB Scheme Fit
Man: Corners with good press ability, whether it be bail or jam, with good straight line speed and route squeeze to stick with receivers up to any level of the field.
Seattle 3: Throwback, jam-heavy corners who can stunt receivers from getting off the line quick and make their life hell for the first 2 to 3 seconds of the play with good ball skills to disrupt passes. These corners also must be able to shed blocks and defend the run with physicality. Corners in this group may or may not struggle staying in the receivers hip pocket laterally and/or deeper down the field.
Balanced: More scheme independent corners who can do either a lot, or a little bit of everything. They may or may not have elite traits but this grouping of Corner's flexibility to align from any position sets them apart from the more scheme specific corners. They key trait here is the lack of any defining weakness.
Off-Man: Corners more designed to operate in a Quarters Heavy, Split Safety, "Fangio" Style Defense. What these players lack in Press-Jam Coverage ability, they make up for in ability to diagnose route combinations, communicate assignments, and transition downhill quickly in space.
*Slot: Corners who project best into the nickel. These corners excel in lateral movement skills, ball skills, toughness against the run, among many other things in this complex position. Quickness is prioritized over length and long speed as many of the routes defended from the slot are sudden and not downfield.
*Not included in a player's designations as "Any" scheme fit.

    Your use/invention/popularization of new terms like Route Squeeze is what makes you BY FAR the best football analyst out there. You understand the game so well and aren’t afraid to explain things that might confuse new people. You want your analysis to be as right as possible without worrying about being different, and you think so out of the box

    Full disclosure, I'm a 49er fan (obviously, we have no stake in the 1st round this year) but I'm trying to understand the full picture around the league, through talking to other fans of different franchises. Interested to hear your thoughts. What would you say to taking one of the top CBs at pick 6 (given Carter's recent concerns, though he will be tempting) and taking an edge at 18 like Myles Murphy, who also has the size to play inside in passing situations, so James Houston can still get his? Or potentially another local to help Alim McNeil (who I think needs more opportunities as a pass rusher) and take Mazi Smith at 18, or in a trade down?

  • @beanie3427

    @beanie3427

    Жыл бұрын

    @@zackhurwitz9441 For the Lions Im totally on board with the idea of taking Richardson if he’s available at 6 (less on board with trading up). Otherwise, I think CB or trade down is the best option. I’d be happy if they got Spoon or if they traded down 5-10 spots and got Banks plus future draft capital (which could be useful if they need a QB in the future). But if not QB, CB seems like the clear answer. At 18, im with you on getting a D-lineman. I also like the idea of getting someone versatile. I was big on Edge for a while, but I’ve kinda moved off that idea after studying the depth chart more. I’d go versatile IDL and I don’t think Mazi would be my target. I think they need a guy like Kancey who can play 3tech, 5tech, or even go to the edge in certain packages. But 18 could go a lot of different ways. I could also see WR or TE being in play there. If they did that, maybe they could grab a guy like Adeboware in the 2nd for the D-line.

  • @zackhurwitz9441

    @zackhurwitz9441

    Жыл бұрын

    @@beanie3427 I think y'all are the best landing spot for Richardson. Given that y'all are picking 6th, I don't think to trade up with Arizona would be too much of a haul, at least relatively speaking. Mazi Smith has some untapped potential as a pass rusher, I think he just didn't get a lot of opportunities in Michigan's scheme as their NT. If I'm Arizona, I'd move back for pick 48, Deandre Swift, and a second next year, I'd still get either one of the top CBs, or possibly Tyree Wilson, maybe Carter, but as said before he's a risk at this point. I don't think Richardson makes it past Indi, so might have to pull the trigger.

    Banks reminds me off Quentin Jammer who once played for the Chargers. Similar measurable and physical characteristics, and Jammer never was a big interception guy. Jammer also played the run like a small LB at corner.

    I agree on this. Big Lou Anarumo isn't a Fangio disciple but his understanding of utilizing his personnel in zone situations will get the most out Forbe's skillset.

    I like these rankings, though I am much higher on Cam Smith. I think he’s the 3rd best corner in the class behind Gonzalez and Witherspoon. To me Gonzalez, Witherspoon, Smith, Porter, & Banks are the clear top 5.

    I am praying my lions draft Banks with their second first round pick if we don’t go Witherspoon at 6 and take Anderson or Carter instead if either falls. Even if they feel like they have to trade up a little bit from 18 to get him. Banks and Witherspoon are my favorite fits for my Lions.

    Should DJ Turner be further down the list? Would he be given the task of covering big recievers? I believe he's worth taking if you have a dominant no 1 already on the roster meaning he could be a solid and flashy CB 2

    one thing i think you could do to improve your videos is diversify speed ratings. seems like almost every corner has a speed within 3 or 4 digits so its hard to understand how fast exactly you think they are. love the content

    Well you aren't a top 10 corner without a baseline of good speed, I'll say that There's a much larger range at other positions but these guys are playing corner cause they are fast. "87 speed" isn't playing in the NFL

    I love your videos, but, man, dropping Forbes to sixth is so egregious. The tape, stats, and production is all there against elite competition yet teams and scouts nippick weight, height, handsize, etc. Same thing was said about Devonte Smith and he's tured out just fine. I look forward to your DT rankings but I already know you're gonna have Kansey at 4 or 5. It's crazy, man.

    Outlier metrics for WR is different and DeVonta Smith is the only skinniest outlier whose playing WR at a high level. For corners the metrics for size is much different as outlined by TFG since they can be easily mismatched against bigger WRs. The only thing saving Forbes is that his ball skills and instincts on coverage along with his arm length make him terrific in zone/quarters if that is all he's asked to do.
