There are two major classifications of bomber: strategic and tactical. Strategic bombing is done by heavy bombers primarily designed for long-range bombing missions against strategic targets to diminish the enemy's ability to wage war by limiting access to resources through crippling infrastructure or reducing industrial output. Tactical bombing is aimed at countering enemy military activity and in supporting offensive operations, and is typically assigned to smaller aircraft operating at shorter ranges, typically near the troops on the ground or against enemy shipping.
During WWII with engine power as a major limitation, combined with the desire for accuracy and other operational factors, bomber designs tended to be tailored to specific roles. Early in the Cold War however, bombers were the only means of carrying nuclear weapons to enemy targets, and held the role of deterrence. With the advent of guided air-to-air missiles, bombers needed to avoid interception. High-speed and high-altitude flying became a means of evading detection and attack. With the advent of ICBMs the role of the bomber was brought to a more tactical focus in close air support roles, and a focus on stealth technology for strategic bombers.

This video is a joke. Vulcan on place 4? Chines H6 is a copy of Russian Tu-16. Su-34 is a next generation of Su-24 and is much more powerful. Sorry for my English.

Other fun fact is that the bombers on this list most of them are old bombers design in the 60s to 90s they just been upgraded and updated with new radar and avionics.

Yes. That's all they need, actually. These days bombers don't have to enter enemy's air territory, as they are able to use longer range missiles. Modern avionics, powerful radar and long-range strategic missiles are giving opportunity to take missions even on such an old aircraft as Tu-95.

@@hectormontemayor7175 And both deserved their spots on this list. B-52's will be nearing 100 years old when they are retired. They keep them because they are still very good at raining lots of steel. The TU-95 is still great for maritime patrol or raining steel and also likely to remain in service as long as the B-52 (or perhaps even longer). Both are also able to haul massive stand off payloads like cruise missiles to ensure survivability by keeping them out of contested airspace.

@@ivansivcev537 Stealth technology doesn't mean invisible there is think that called LORCS Low Observable radar cross section which male the aircraft have much longer range to strike and have more survive capable for example su 35 have radar range for 400 km and can see typhoon or other 4 generation aircraft like typhoon or Rafael which both of them can be detect from range that is between 250 to 400 km while if su 35 detect f 22 it can detect it at maximum range of just 20 to 40 km Tu 160 is shit tu 160 RCS more than 25 meters and it's just knocking off b1 lancer b 2 spirit electronics and radar range still declassified also b1b lancer still declassified

Только что прошёл очередную модернизацию, к тому же готовится к выходу модель Ту-160м2. Самолёт несёт на себе огромную бомбовую нагрузку, адаптируется под новейшую ракету. Чем может ему ответить B-2?

The Vulcan is NOT a Current bomber.... The #'s 9 and 10 are NOT strictly bombers... If you want to put them in the list you should have put the F-15E as it has the same role

It did its job in the Falklands and I dont mean the one bomb on the runway, I mean the demonstration that if they could bomb Port Stanley they could bomb Buenos Aires. That kept the Argentinian fighters at home. Classic deterrent to the end.

Tu160 is best bomber by pure performance but the B2's stealth helps against interceptor jets and SAM radars. But realistically these aircraft will operate 100s if not 1000s of kilometers away from danger and utilize intercontinental missiles

S500 isn't better than S400, S500has less missiles. Even though it can fire at a range of 600km no military aircraft will fly so high for it to do so. So S500 is better more anti ballistic missiles not shooting down aircraft.

The Fullback name given from NATO for the SU-34 is such a fitting name. Just like how russians welcomed the name Fulcrum for the MiG-29. If former NFL hall of famer Jim Brown was a warplane, look no further than the SU-34. But one question though: Are each of these aircraft compared in this pur them in particular sequence? Cuz the Fullback is way better than being dead last.

Though the Avro Vulcan is one of the greatest bombers of all time and was the best of its time it doesn’t fit the criteria of the video of the best bombers of today I suggest making another list on greatest bombers of all time including planes such as the Vulcan, Lancaster B-29 etc

"Today" part of title is a joke... Vulcans went out of service in 1984, and the last farewell flight of „The Spirit of Great Britain” took place in 2015, since then Vulcans can be seen only in museums.

@@markshalashov3022 it's not stealthy lol, It can be detected by Radar very far away, a Russian Tu160 that flew towards Alaska was detected so early that F22 on the gr9und waited until the Tu16p was close enough for a quick intercept

If you are talking about future bomber, that is. What do you expect? A veteran US bomber pilot talks to his son : Son, my grandfather flies the B52, my father also flies B52, I am now flying B52. When you graduate from flight school, make sure you pick B52, and when your son grow up, he will probably fly B52 too.

Yeah, there gonna be a caveat to this the best per dollar. Sure if you want to spend $1.3 billion on a plane and it better be the best you ever make I personally would like to have 10 or 20 of medium value bombers and well-trained crews.

The B-2 is in 1st place only in terms of fantastic cost; in terms of combat parameters, it is inferior to several aircraft from the list.

@@siouneo152 All 16 Tu-160 aircraft underwent a complete upgrade to version M in 2020. They had new engines installed, parts were replaced with composite materials, a new digital cockpit and new weapons systems were installed. One new Tu-160M was built in 2018. Now, until 2025, an order for the production of 50 pieces of Tu-160M2 is being executed. The modernized B-52, which is 70 years old, is better than the newer Tu-160 M, where the oldest is 30 years old?

@@siouneo152 And to that I have an answer for you. Today, at our aviation plant in Kazan, three fuselages of the new Tupolev bomber are being assembled under the PAK DA program. The prototype will be built this year. First flight in 2023. Then we'll see.
Just curious, but how did SU-34 end up on the 10 place?? This plane that has multiple capabilities beyond bomber. Not only that it is an excellent bomber and attack aircraft, it is also capable of standing on its own against ground-to-air and air -to-air attacks. Once it drops its payload, it can act as a fighter as well.

@@Pvt_Badger0916 the main thing with rocket lobbing is that, you have a "flying" mlrs that can respond quickly. it may not be as effective as some of the more advanced systems, but it does its job fairly well. the russians have almost complete air superiority, its just that the ukranians have many MANPADS.

America doesn't operate 20 B2 Spirits anymore because in last couple of years 2 or 3 crashed during routine flights and since America is in deep recession these 17 or 18 are not all flying because of hard economical times in USA
SU24M is not a frontline bomber, it's an attack aircraft And so is Su 34. It's a fighter-bomber

Well... I think the channel translates russian "Фронтовой бомбардировщик" word for word. And it means exactly frontline bomber. And yes - it's an attack aircraft. BTW Su-34 is a replacement for Su-24, so it's purpose is the same. It;s not a mistake to call it as a frontline bomber as well as fighter-bomber. It has better maneurability and AA armament, but it's purpose is to replace Su-24... Have a nice day. ;)

Just the title 'The Best' is misleading.....Best in what way? Best for stealth? Then the B2 wins hands down.....but if you are including the SU24 and the SU 34, then you could add the F117 Nighthawk....which would be 2nd most stealthy after the B2....... Or by 'Best' do you mean heaviest bomb load? In which case the Tu 160 wins..... By 'Best' do you mean most used over the most decades? In which case the B52 wins.....it's the oldest (older than the Vulcan even) and has been used in many conflicts from Vietnam onwards.....
