2:05 The top remedy for tartar
5:55 Check out my video on vitamin K2!
Today, I will share how to get rid of tartar. Tartar is dental plaque. But, what we’re really dealing with are biofilms.
Biofilms are like little calcium houses for bacteria. An overabundance of biofilms can cause bad breath, receding gums, and inflammation.
If you chew gum, it’s best to chew gum that contains xylitol because xylitol has antibiofilm properties.
There also seems to be a positive correlation between vitamin K2 and inhibiting dental plaque. So, you may want to start taking vitamin K2.
Natural herbs that help prevent dental plaque:
• Rosemary
• Clove
• Thyme
• Garlic
• Curcumin
• Oregano
• Cinnamon
• NAC
The top remedy for tartar:
Ingredients:
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp hydrogen peroxide (3%)
1/2 cup water
Mix the baking soda and the hydrogen peroxide in the water. Then, use your toothbrush to brush your teeth with this mixture. Do this after you brush your teeth with toothpaste.

Tip: My dentist said I had gingivitis, periodontal disease, and receding gums. So I decided to made my own toothpaste Using 1. Coconut oil, 2. Hydrogen peroxide 3. Baking soda and 4. Peppermint Extract. I came back 3 months later and he couldn't believe that my gum's stopped receding, my gingivitis was gone and my teeth were whiter. He didn't seem to like that I fixed it myself so I never went back to him. I'm Embarrassed to say I did not have a dental cleaning for 6 years after that. This year I went to a new dentist. The dental hygienist could not believe I had not had my teeth cleaned for that many years. I had no receding gums, no tartar on my teeth, she said they looked great, and my mouth and teeth were healthy! Edit - please read my reply below for how to make it. And of you have bleeding gums use a soft bristle brush. The other brushes are too harsh on our gums. After using this method daily I doubt you'll have bleeding gums again. IMO I'm editing again. I've answered several questions down below, please scroll. Also, remember to brush your cheeks and tongue. Lots of bacteria on the tongue. NOTE: I am NOT a dentist, I'm not advising anyone to do anything, this is what I do for my teeth and gum health. I will always recommend seeing your dentist for your checkups and concerns. :)

Ok as a dental professional I want to add something. Be sure that baking soda is WELL disolved since it's very abrasive. Also tartar is calcified dental plaque you have about 12 hours to brush it off before it starts the process of hardening, but it takes about two weeks to actually fully harden where it has to be chiseled off. This is what gets under your gums and leads to bone loss. Thirdly....a lot of medicines cause somethign called dry mouth. If you have a problem with cavities even though you brush and floss religiously, cut all the sugar. This is the only way to curb/stop dental decay in dry mouth.

The thumbnail in the pic of the tartar inside the mouth, behind the bottom teeth...thats EXACTLY how mine looked for years and years. I started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar, and after drinking a tablespoon amount mixed with a little water,i would then drink an 8 ounce glass of plain water to wash away the ACV,because if left on your teeth it can ruin your enamel. Well after having numerous positive effects from drinking this once a day, every day, i looked at my teeth one day to just do a casual inspection to see if i had any new cavities forming. To my shock the inside of my bottom layer of teeth was COMPLETELY FREE of all that old tartar that i use to see on my inside layer of teeth for years. I was always told ACV can damage tooth enamel,so i always made sure to wash my mouth with a glass of water each time after consuming ACV and a little water mixed in with it. All i can say is the only thing i changed before that tartar disappeared was taking Apple Cider Vinegar. 😮

Dr Jeff( dentist) here. Great video. Just to clarify - plaque is the sticky biofilm that starts to build up after 6hrs. Tartar is a calcified deposit - a result of calcification which occurs after the formation of the biofilm. Prevent the biofilm and you prevent the tartar forming. The Dental profession should be following this advice rather than being led by companies wanting to push their products.

As a licensed dental provider I'd like to point out that dental plaque and dental tartar (in the dental world it's known as calculus) are not the same and often not related to one another. Dental plaque is a compilation of food and dead cells. It's what we are supposed to be brushing off every day. Tartar is closer in make up to coral, yes, like in the ocean. Tartar is a product primarily of your saliva, and this is why we tend to build it on the upper back teeth (adjacent to the second and third molars and the Stenson's duct) and the lower front teeth (tongue side, adjacent to the Wharton's duct ). Dry brushing those areas prior to regular brushing works miracles in preventing tartar buildup. I definitely agree that vitamin K2 D3 helps as well.

Your recipe works yes, but I was a dentist for 20 years and still see orthodontic patients daily. There is a differnce between dental plaque and dental tartar. Plaque is the soft accumulation on teeth and has a low pH. Tartar is the hard mineralized deposit which gets removed with a scaler by my oral hygienists. The pH is alkaline. There are basically 2 types differing in colour and in contents. Supergingival tartar which is usually a light beige colour and in general harmless. Then subgingival tartar which is darker/green. The latter being dangerous regarding periodontal disease and which usually resorps the alveolar bone. The biofilm (lamina dentalis) will always form about 10 minutes after cleaning your teeth and consists of organic material i.e. protein and enzymes. The biofilm which forms on top of that later becomes the plaque (soft stuff) and if that stays on for 12 hours or more, becomes tartar. The pH and enzymatic ingredients of the saliva will determine which of the 2 types of tartar will form. The anaerobic bacteria and Lactobacillus content plays a big part. By preventing the plaque (biofilm) from mineralizing and becoming tartar, the damage will be prevented, whether being toothpaste or H2O2 and Hydrogen Peroxide. Just a little filling in on your info. Thanks for the advice 😉

It's all very simple but patients don't listen, then they complain of cavities, root canals, extractions, high costs, getting ripped off---Dental home care is NOT hard unless someone has a disability & needs help. Most patients, sorry to say, are lazy.

  • @RG-hf4et

@@PeaceIsYeshua There are dental schools & dental hygiene schools that offer low cost dental care. There are other programs around and I am sure if a patient had financial concerns, their dental office would agree to a payment plan. And just for the record, many patients that say they can't afford dental care are driving around in lots of new cars, always have the latest cell phones,, have expensive handbags, go on plenty of vacations, send their kids to expensive colleges, etc. I see it every day....IT all depends on someone's priorities. And I know patients are lazy because I DO take the time to explain on every appointment (for 45 years!) but most DON'T LISTEN. It's my job to inform the patient of what I see and what will help at home.....Blaming the "whole dental industry" is out of line. That's like saying every plumber or car mechanic out there is a rip off. It's YOUR responsibility as a patient to find a Practioner that YOU can work. Stop blaming an entire profession of Healthcare providers for your own negligence..... Tartar is never going to magicly go away & it ALWAYS gets worse as you get older. It takes A LOT of preventive personal TIME to reduce the amount of plaque every day which in turn into tartar. The patients that take the TIME to brush 3x's (NOT 2!) a day-even better, every time they eat, floss ALL the teeth-not just the easy ones, use a water pic EVERY DAY & use intervention brushes, rubber pics, etc. are the ones who keep their tartar under control, decrease & eliminate inflammation, and avoid gum disease. I highly doubt you do all of the things I listed, which by the way, don't cost you anything but YOUR TIME.

My daughter is 30 years old with the mind of a one year old. Its very difficult to brush her teeth well, flossing is no option. For the last three years she developed serious plaque and bleeding gums. I asked the dentist if it was a good idea to brush with coconut oil. ( a tip i had overheard) she said no, i don’t think so. I did it anyway and within ONE week her gums were beautiful pink and firm. Its bin four months since our last visit to the dentist and there is not one single sign of plaque yet!! I brush her teeth twice a day gently with coconut oil and then toothpaste . For us is wonderfully working.

I had very bad recession . I started doing pil pulling with coconut oil, that is swishing the oil around in the mouth for 15/20 min , before brushing, i do it while in the shower , do it every other day at first then maybe 2 or 3 times a week for maintenance , after 6 months, at the dentist they said nothing but they did not measure my gum recession and every cleaning visit they say everything looks good with the gums. They do look and feel better. And no need for mouthwash. Spit the oil in the garbage can not in the sink as it will clog it.

The RDA value (radioactive dentin abrasion) of baking soda is only 7, whereas toothpastes range from 30 to 200 in RDA, which counters these falsifications against baking soda and its abrasive properties. The RDA value determines how abrasive a product is for your teeth.

Excellent. I'm eternally grateful to the dentist who taught me that optimum periodontal home care involves daily low pressure sub gingival irrigation with multiple alternate effective anti microbial agents. It has saved me from so much easily avoided misery. Alternately using either salt, or baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide, or even a tiny amount of bleach diluted in water. The irrigator he introduced me to had a big rubber squeeze bulb on one end of the plastic stem and either a rubber tip, or a blunt needle on the other end. Currently I generally use a curved tip syringe. I suppose a water pik would be good. But I like the greater mobility with the irrigator. I also asked him what he brushed his teeth with. Baking soda. In his forty something years of practice up to that time he had a lot of Hispanic patients who brushed their teeth with baking soda. Over the years he noticed that those who did had very little tooth decay. These days I usually brush with a mix of equal parts baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. My personal experience with this since 1999 has convinced me that Dr. Keyes and Dr. White were spot on.

Lovely advise. I have personally changed to KETO, and I never brush my teeth with off.the-shelf toothpaste, commercial toothpaste . I have used a high quality lavender essential oil mixed with a bit of water, morning and evening. No, it does not taste good, but it has, with the diet change, reversed my receding gum problem, and what's more: X-rays show my tooth enamel actually is getting stronger. I know because I have gone to the same dentist, 1-2 times a year, for the last 30 years. Always check essential oil FIRST in a very small amount on eg the inside of your wrist to check to allergic reactions, and READ UP ON THEM THOROUGHLY. PS: I am 64, stopped smoking 32 years ago, do NOT drink juice, do NOT eat grain. It is so important that we take care of of and take responsibility for our health, because you can be quite sure the Food industry will not. Thank you soo much dr. Eric Berg!

Oil pulling on its own is unlikely to have any specific risks or side effects. However, some people may become so convinced of its effectiveness after watching online videos or reading articles that they give up well proven dental hygiene practices and products to replace them entirely with oil pulling. This is where the biggest risks of problems lie.

Since the oil is pulling bacteria you will most likely see a lot of mucus when you spit it out, don't be alarmed. While it's not for everybody, I bought some scaling tools online and use primarily the sides of the scapers to clean around my gum line. I will only use them to clean upper & lower front teeth--too hard to angle towards the sides & back. Warm water & salt I've always found helpful; helps with sore gums. Dad taught me that decades ago! Hydrogen peroxide has info on dental care on the bottle. Use it from time to time & to clean brushes (though they should be changed every 3mos.) Good info, Doctor!

My teeth were pretty bad with plaque, because of all the sugary drinks I was consuming. I tried to use mouthwash to remove as much plaque as possible. And although I did have some success with certain mouthwashes, it was the first use of baking soda that managed to do the biggest fix. Basically, dental plaque was reduced to a point that only some flossing will be required to get the rest. My teeth are considerably cleaner. And my breath seems fresh.

Dr. Berg, I've been a dentist for over 30 years. You have provided excellent advice in this video. However, tartar development has a very strong genetic component to it. Some people basically build up zero tartar and really don't need to go for dental cleanings (other than to check for cavities). On the other extreme, some people build tartar so quickly that even one week after a cleaning, they start developing new deposits. For the latter, visits to their friendly neighborhood hygienist is definitely recommended every few months.
