Sense of Humor. A sense of humor is one of the most interesting human characteristics. We all have a sense of humor, but several of us are buried under different problems, under ruthless competition with each other, so we can’t allow ourselves to be happy. We are suppressing this sense in us.
Nature gave us a sense of humor--which does not exist in small children, in mentally handicapped people, animals, and undeveloped people--as with this sense we can transcend ourselves, criticize ourselves and laugh at what nature does to us. By that, we develop an attitude towards ourselves and nature from a higher degree and then we can ascend. We look at ourselves and laugh: Look at who I am, I can be even more, but who am I?
Kabbalists not only laugh at themselves but they constantly criticize who they are, what they are, how they are actually, and how they can change. If we know how to laugh at ourselves, as they say: God has brought us laughter and from that, we can grow.
I like jokes about human weaknesses and how we can rise above them. Such jokes help us develop because if we know we have such negative qualities, we can work on them and rise above them.
Everything in us and about us was created only for our development, including the sense of humor. Jews around the world are well known for their ability to laugh at themselves, even in the worst possible states. A sense of humor gives the person strength and the ability to develop.
On the other hand, we should never make fun of others. We can laugh only about qualities that exist in mankind in general, as by that we can awaken places of weakness that we can change and by that advance towards the purpose of creation.

Being funny or The Clown or Comedian is not the same as having a sense of humour. A sense of Humour is as the Rav spoke. Ability to laugh at yourself. It is at the very least a stress reliever. On a personal note: I recall onetime having NO money, my software company was falling appart(licence deal went South) investors knocking at my door, bills piled high, wife pregnant with first child(4 now) and feeling so over-whelmed that I could'nt for the life of me get a hold of my thoughts= Bordline Nervous Breakdown. I recall calling my Mom just to hear her voice of calm/reason. She suddenly started laughing about something silly I said about what I was going through and we both had a belly aching laughter session. I hung UP...looked UP and said GOD its in your hands now. I immediately got calm, my mind and Spirit became mellow and I got through a very dark period with Laughter and sense of humour. A MUST HAVE in these trying times I might add.😊

I cannot finish watching this movie even after 42 seconds because you said we cannot allow ourselves to be happy having a sense of humor and allowing yourself to be happy to me are two different things at some point they go together but they are two different things

I see that the unfunny guy with all the answers needs help with this one as well. The key to humor is the technique known as the paraprosdokian. A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence, phrase, or larger discourse is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. Why do we resonate with the paraprosdokian ? Because the Universe is infinite joy and bliss, it decided to play a joke on itself by creating the experience of Earth where it inserted itself into these meat modems with an obscured sense of self with the idea being that as we develop from babyhood and try to find meaning in the upside down nasty world architected by the Kabbalists we finally come to the realization that hey...this is just the Infinite Jest and it's one big punchline. Aha ..this is just a fun game of Hide and Seek and the demons running the show are just shadow creatures moving us along to the big guffaw. What is the first game we introduce to babies that really gets them rolling ? Peek OB BOoh ! That's all this experience is.... a game of Peek OB BOoh... The Grand Paraprosdokian. That face hiding behind the hands that made you laugh as a kid....was YOU ! Surprise ! hahahahahahaha
