Thanks for your efforts on making all your videos I recently had Pella’s impervia casement windows installed in the Cincinnati area with the sun defense and offset glass - WOW!!! What a difference- house is roughly 23 years old - looks brand new and what a difference it has made in just 4 months utility bill has dropped 30% -granted we have had a mild winter so far Thanks Jeff - I probably would not have asked about the offset glass package - yes so quiet You are right - I should have done this sooner Love the line about the boat with a hole - it’s going to sink !!! Definitely - a lot cheaper going to a window shop - and getting a better quality window - then having a sleazy salesman who won’t leave until you sign and threatens to break your knee cap (joking) in which they keep coming up with more discounts and phone calls to his boss and to the window manufacturer as well -

Hey are you familiar with Alside windows? It seems like NT Windows and Alside are very similar in quality. Do you see any upsides or downsides when you compare these two manufacturers. Are there big disparities in price?

Alside is a contractor grade product, in my opinion. If I'm not mistaken, that's who makes the Window world window. The few times that I've encountered their window in a home, it was because we were replacing it. Remember, the most important thing will be your installer. Start with finding a great window company and then see what options they have available to you.

What are your thoughts on WINDOW WORLD?

That's what I told my installer, it almost looks like a new house!

I'm here from California looking for better info on replacement windows vs new construction. The sales people and contractor say to do new construction, but architect friends and Arch Digest articles say it's not necessary. You want confusion? Try opposing opinions from different kinds of experts! Some who profit from our project, some who don't.

Considering you're in California they may both be correct. California has a requirement that you have to use a window inside of a window if you're not going to go all the way back to the studs. However, you will sacrifice quite a bit of glass space doing that. If you go with a replacement window that fits inside of your existing window, that is a sure way to pass inspection and have a great installation. However, you will lose a lot of glass space doing so. If you're willing to go to the extra expense of removing your stucco or siding from around your windows, going all the way back to the framing on your house, and then installing a new construction window, that would be another great option as well. The benefit to this option is that you will not lose any glass space. In summary, both of your experts would be correct. Depends on which process you prefer, and what you're willing to spend to make it happen.
