The 1,255-HP Showdown! Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vs. Porsche 911 GT3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Edmunds' Alistair Weaver and Carlos Lago test and compare the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3. For similar money, these two super sports cars deliver massive driving thrills and motorsports technology for the street. The ZR1 is the highest-performing Corvette available, with 755 horsepower and a wild optional track package that gives it huge sticky tires and an enormous wing. The GT3 may not have the power bragging rights, but it represents a purity of focus. It's built alongside real race cars, and its 4.0-liter engine revs to a beautiful 9,000 rpm. Which one is the most fun on the road and at the racetrack? Watch to find out!
Q: What kind of engine and transmission do the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 have?
A: The Corvette has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 (755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque) and an optional eight-speed automatic. The 911 GT3 uses a 4.0-liter flat-six (500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque) and an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Q: How much do the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 cost?
A: The Corvette ZR1 starts at $122,095, while the 911 GT3 begins at $145,650 (both figures include destination and gas-guzzler tax). Both vehicles in this video had a few options. Highlights for the Chevy included bucket-style seats ($1,995) and a performance package ($2,995) that included track-optimized tires, suspension and aerodynamic parts. The ZR1's as-tested price totaled $131,300. Significant options for the Porsche included carbon-ceramic brakes ($9,210) and bucket-style seats ($5,200) for an as-tested price of $160,900.
Q: How fast are the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3?
A: Despite the massive difference in power, these two cars accelerate similarly. During testing, the ZR1 reached 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (3.3 seconds with a 1-foot rollout, as on a drag strip) and clocked a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds at 127.2 mph. The GT3 passed 60 mph in 3.3 seconds (3.1 seconds with a 1-foot rollout) and reached the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 124.7 mph.

Dear Carlos! Glad that you're back reviewing cars like you do best. Here's my suggestion though: DONT OVER-SCRIPT THE REVIEWS LIKE MOTORTREND! They have literally ruined the reviews so much lately, they're becoming stage plays. Just speak whats in your head because it a lot more connected to the experience. Let the exchange between you and the co-reviewer be as natural as can be even if you interrupt each other! All the best! =)

I think it's almost a shock of sort more than anything else, not that corvette hasn't always produced excellent cars but this ZR1 is especially good.. but its still a plastic corvette, just with tons of seat feel thrills. Porsche is a car reviewers car they compare everything too.... GT3 is predictable not to be confused with tame but linear power on command and not that fit and finish like the plastic comment makes the car necessarily more enjoyable but build quality definitely is like they said about the transmission the car is fantastic the Corvette is more like the Dodge Demon or the Hellcat fast raw sounds great but not necessarily great and reliability at best questionable

I love the argument about Porsche keeping its value better. While that may be true, lets consider thats assuming you keep the kilometres super low, so basically meaning that you barely drive the car. What is the fun in having a car like that but always being concerned about the value and how much you can drive it? Lets face it, all cars depreciate and can rarely be considered a "good investment". Corvette on the other hand, typically allows you, when buying/leasing to put on 25000KM a year and still keep it under warranty. Try selling a GT3 with 70k + kilometres and tell me its holding its value. There is a reason that when you lease most super cars, you are given a much lower kilometre limit per year. I love both cars and appreciate the both, but I feel people get so caught up in "value" and not actual drivability and usability from an AMATEUR (lets face it, all of us here are not by any means professional drivers) point of view.

I disagree. Lap times on other tracks have shown that the ZR1 is MASSIVELY faster than the GT3 around a track. You can say a Miata is awesome to drive around a track and don't provide lap times, does that mean it's the better track car? I think you need some context. At VIR, the ZR1 absolutely fucking OBLITERATED the GT3 by EIGHT SECONDS PER LAP. Are you sure that information isn't relevant? I think it is.

I would counter-argue that the increased residual value of the GT3 will be offset by the massive maintenance and repair cost difference. Everything on a Porsche will cost a king's ransom to replace or repair. Some other people mentioned that there is also considerable MSRP markup on the GT3, and that won't hold its value much.

AWESOME.... and Lago at it again yey :)... love it, missed these kind of vids ever since Motortrend went bust (and/or started charging for everything ). However I still think you shouldve tracked them, lap times. Not with a professional driver like you said, but, maybe Lago should drive each and post the time. That would give us sort of a realistic reference what each car is like in the hands of a "civilian" and what perhaps to watch out for, what might be annoying etc... Seriously , two cars, a track. Lap times are a must. And If not Lago, find someone a bit less experienced for a even better portrayal how cars are in the hands of a average car enthusiast who will own these cars and what they should expect. And again great job guys. Also much much prefer the genuine chemistry between you two guys and the back / forth in comparison to the forced banter on MT.

This idea of cars being cabbage patch dolls has become ridiculous. So now the Porsche is a better value because of resale price even though the ZR 1 beats it in every metric. I really hope GM makes the C8 so far above European cars value wise its a no brainer. There is a 30,000 dollar price difference that cannot be ignored and that's just the base model and 60,000 for a fully kitted GT3. So a GT3 is a better value than a ZR1 plus a Camaro SS 1LE. Whatever world thinks that thinks that's a good deal is crazy.

That's called speculation on a commodity that's disposable in the first place. Sports cars dont even sell that well anywhere so now its down to what can the GT3 do better than the ZR 1 and its not much. He is talking about a speculative market that can change at any time and that's not value related. So if I say Ferrari has a better resale value because its a Ferrari then where is the value metric if its less of a car.

Vernon, they were strictly speaking about residual value. They said, "the residual values of a GT3 are so much stronger than a ZR1 that over a 3 or 5 year life cycle it might actually be the better financial choice." However, that may not end up being true if this ZR1 is only offered for 2019 but then again, every corvette in the past 40 years, with the exception of the 1996 GS, have depreciated fairly heavily.

I love how these are high performance cars but we literally take out the most importing part of that comparison when one car comes from a part of the work that's supposed to make a better car. Every time there's a European vs American car comparison it's suddenly about "how it feels" instead of performance. This is obviously because, as we all know, the zr1 wipes the floor with the Porsche along with a long list of other beloved "super cars". So tired of car comparisons being one car beeting the other in 90% of the categories and still losing because " this just feels more refined". If that's what you're looking for don't get either of these. Go by a m5 and have a relaxing drive on Sunday afternoons

It's a Z06 with a larger supercharger, a few extra coolers, a different front end that looks like a largemouth bass with its mouth wide open, & it has a wing that looks like an ironing board/afterthought (it's not integrated into the design of the car at all). But that's what happens when you take a Z06 at the end of its generation & then try to throw a few extra parts on it to come up with a ZR1.

MT video reviews used to be like this, direct, not too much drama & cinematics whatsoever.... keeping it simple and pure makes it more effective in relaying the facts the reviewer want to convey to it's audience... Great Review Carlos, I'm glad you left MT their reviews is more of a circus than a source of facts nowadays....

I think it was Obvious the GT3 would win for many reasons! How they talked so much about it through the video and also has anyone else noticed that when a car is going to lose they always put test that car first? Like in this example they tested the ZR1 first that's how I knew it would lose SMH
