    Thanks so much for the info. I’m using a froze turkey for the first time. I’ve cooked turkeys for decades but always fresh. I’m in a small southern town because that’s where my grandchildren are, so have to deal with things as they are. I didn’t think it took that long to defrost a turkey. Really thought it was like 24 hrs. Glad I checked cause I have to brine the turkey to. At 23 lbs I’ll get it out Sunday to bring on Wednesday and cook thirsday

    I must have a steel stomach. I’ve thawed my turkeys in cold water all the time and they were fine. I don’t change out the water every 30 minutes. I put mine in a cooler and the frozen turkey keeps the water cold enough. The water inside a cooler shouldn’t get below 40 unless you have the top open in the sun or something. But everyBODY is different. I don’t recommend letting it sit on a kitchen counter all day to thaw, but in a pinch, a cooler full of cold water works for me.

Thinking by Saturday it should be thawed. Friday the wife ends up in the hospital. Now it is Monday and we just got back home around 6 pm. The turkey is thawed but I am thinking I should throw it away. Hell of waste but then better safe than to chance it.

    Take it out three days before, put in fridge for two days. Then saltwater brine overnight for the last night. The salt will stop the bacteria, and the brining makes the meat a lot moister and more flavorful.

    Important Question: So I need 4 days to thaw my Turkey but it's only going to get 3 full days. So last night I asked my hubby to put the turkey unopened into a bucket of water so he did and I didn't know I was suppose to change the water every 1 hr. So this morning when I took the turkey out of the bucket the water water was frozen around the turkey. So I chipped the ice off dried if with a paper towel ikn put it back in the fridge is my Turkey still safe to eat?

  • @Zaxtor99

    @Zaxtor99

    6 жыл бұрын

    The water has to be changed every 30 minutes if you do it like that and the turkey has to be completely submerged. Because ice was still around the turkey this morning, you MIGHT be okay. but I don't know that I'd risk it honestly. I know turkeys are pretty expensive and all, but is it really worth the risk of making yourself and all your loved ones REALLY sick? Regardless of your choice, please you and your family have a really nice and safe holiday season this year!

    Zaxtor99 I forgot to mention that it was in the refrigerator the whole time(probably why the water froze, our fridge gets pretty cold). So I didn't leave the turkey out or take it out of its plastic case. Idk if that makes a difference. I didnt realize I was suppose to leave the Turkey out of the fridge.

  • @Zaxtor99

    You'd still be eating dead bacteria! And you can get very sick from that. That's like saying "Oh even though all these apples have rotted and have worms crawling all through them, I'm going to make a nice apple pie with them because the cooking process will kill all the worms!" ..You'd still be eating billions of dead bacteria.. I'm sure that would be delicious and real healthy, right?

    So how long can a turkey be safe in the fridge for? If someone has a 40 pound frozen turkey, that takes 8 days to thaw out..wont a turkey have gone bad in those 8 days? Or does it only start going bad after its completely defrosted? (and yes i'm asking in april) i saw frozen turkeys on sale and bought one impulsively, now i'm thinking of using it as a practice turkey :)

    I would personally cook that turkey within about 4 to 5 days after the turkey has thawed out and is ready to cook. Yeah, the time the turkey sits in your fridge defrosting and is still 80% frozen doesn't count. Hope that helps!

    Jesus Christ saves from sin. Romans 3: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Hebrews 9: 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Isaiah 64: 6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Revelation 21: 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Romans 5: 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. John 3: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14: 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 10: 9-10. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Jesus said John 5: 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 1John 5: 10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Ephesians 2: 8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Romans 8: 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5: 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................
