Obviously, it's his niece so I'm sure he genuinely loves her, but I think he was telling her because she's insecure about how she feels and he probably thinks that's the reason she plays football to begin with. And what's even better is he obviously saw she was coming in after the cheap shot on her crush. He proceeded to still call a run play and put the ball in Spikes hands knowing she would be targeting him. Further cementing the fact that he wanted Spike to get a reality check that he's just not going to bully everyone in life.

Yeah, the uncle knew how good his niece was. He couldn't blame her, it ran in the family.

Even though Ed’s character wanted to win- the fact he despised that cheap hit showed he wasn’t a bad guy. My wife loves this movie- growing up she was Icebox. They even looked alike

When he said "that's my niece and she's pissed" he knew she was gonna do some damage on the field

It’s safe to say every girl loves this movie because of her. She was so incredibly badass! Literally came out there in a skirt and whooped everyone.

True story...when I was playing rugby about this age, our team when up against a team with a girl. Some of my teammates were laughing, pointing and making fun before the game, like 10 year old boys would. I kept thinking, if she’s playing, she must be good. And....she kicked the shit out of us! Ran in three tries on us...no matter how tough we tried to defend against her, we couldn’t stop her...and our coach was laughing his ass off at us haha

They even had characters who should have been actual “good players” like that WR who has legit speed, but can’t catch to save his life. (Of course trickery and team chemistry let him overcome that problem when it mattered most) They went pretty far on the “you don’t have to fit a stereotype” angle in this movie, it worked well

Hell i still watch it over and over as it was prob my fav movie as a kid and now im 40 i appreciate it in a diff way. I appreciate it because its just a simple feel good movie that has a charm about it. It takes your mind off the real world out and invested into the nice simple feel good story at least an hour and a half.

This movie was a childhood classic for my era.

Loved this as a kid. Never noticed it before but it's kinda funny how sweaty she got just from walking from the side line. Puts black makeup under her eyes, no sweat. Literally just walked onto the field and hasn't even played yet, face covered in sweat.
