In his book, "The Highway War", Maj. Seth Folsom says how he had a similar experience to the reporter with his gas mask. He was chewing tobacco when a gas alert went out and everyone MOPP'd up. Folsom realized too late that his tobacco was still in his mouth. He considered swallowing it, but he was afraid it would make him throw up inside his gas mask. So he had not choice but to use the inside of his mask as a spittoon. Needless to say, when the all clear was given and Folsom took his mask off, there was a nice mess inside it. We were in the back of an armoured vehicle for several hours on a move and one of our blokes forgot his spitter. With lack of a suitable receptacle within reach, he resorted to spitting it down between his chest and his plate carrier. Permanently turned his uniform brown down the front.

During my basic, when we were doing our CBRN training. While we were doing the gas hut drills, we had a guy vomit in his mask from the nerves, and it was the funniest thing. You looked over to check in on the skiddish guy, “hey budd- oh my fucking god.”. When I looked over the eyeholes were vomit covered, so you could tell he completely filled his gasmask with vomit, but just panicked and stood there holding his breath until couldn’t anymore. Poor guy ripped the mask off while the hut was filled with gas and spilled vomit everywhere. The instructors were half pissed and half pissing themselves laughing

I feel it's because Band of Brothers was written and filmed in a way that allowed most civilians to digest and understand it, whereas Generation Kill was more of a love letter to the Military, particularly the Marines, so it had such a level of accuracy and detail, most civilians had trouble following it. For non-veterans and those who have never experienced anything around the military, it's like watching a foreign film with a major cultural difference and a dialect of English few speak.

@fetti_ So... a realistic portrayal of life in the military, particularly life in a US Marine Recon unit that's currently invading a country. I can guarantee you, the men portrayed in Band of Brothers likely spoke very much like what you heard in Generation Kill. It was just turned down a notch or two for the purpose of being viewed by an audience. However, the producers of Generation Kill, which was also a true story, decided to keep the dialog authentic.

I picked up several things while watching this: 1. Glasses pretty much guns down all four people in that car and I believe he is based off of Mike Vining, which if you know about how badass he was, makes sense. 2. Kate is very much inexperienced as the movie shows, but one scene that I think was done the best was when she is shot in the caves just before she goes after Alejandro. She is hesitant and recoils to every shot, meanwhile her friend, Reggie isn’t because of his experience in Afghanistan. Most likely, he had to do something similar to this and pairing those two together in the tunnels was interesting. 3. When Kate is confronted by Alejandro at the end, Alejandro is wearing one glove on the hand he holds the gun with, that same gun is Kate’s service weapon. He meant it literally when he said that she would be committing suicide because that’s the story they would have made. 4. Kate aiming at Alejandro was her trying to convince herself and Alejandro that she was a wolf, but she realizes she isn’t when she lowers the pistol and can’t kill him. 5. The very last scene at the soccer game kinda reminded me when Kate was on the rooftop watching the gunshots in Mexico. A very big chickens head was cut off and now people are scrambling to fill in that position of the dead chicken. 6. Same thing with the end, I believe the wife of the cop who Alejandro kills on the road closes her eyes and sighs, knowing her husband is dead. This movie is jam packed with little moments like these that make you understand more of the film if you pay attention, this movie is just outstanding.

The picture with the Queen meeting the new foal is the real one. Look at the way she’s dressed. That is casual dress for our Queen To be meeting a great grandson for the first time in an official capacity she’d have been dressed totally differently as it was supposed to be a very special occasion

I know it lowers visibility but we should really make gas masks something our soldiers have on 24/7 makes em look cooler. Or supply them with those cool HUD display masks. Looking cool is half the battle
