Yeah Robin your channel does tend toward OO - Olympus overdose - at times. I like the approach Rob Trek has taken, going on photowalks (Short Treks) and talking the viewer through what he is doing for each photo. He uses Olympus gear, but does not over-emphasize it. How about doing more Shutter Therapy walks?

I really think the manufacturers need to learn that ambassadors who "can't" talk about other brands are not as trustworthy as those who do talk about other brands. And yes, you're right, photography is photography regardless of the gear you're using.

In general, I believe you and Matti are correct. However, different platforms do have unique characteristics that sometimes need additional explaination. For example, full frame digital cameras have a 3:2 ratio whereas micro four thirs have a 4:3 ratio. This can have a marked affect on one's ability to frame and compose a photograph. Also, a crop camera, such as micro four thirds, have certain characteristics that are limitations as well as advantages because of their compact size and nature. Matti has been wonderful in clearly explaining these differences and how to use these differences when composing and taking a photograph. He has also pointed out numerous times when these differences matter and, more importantly, when they do not. Furthermore, I appreciate his direct and polite approach. I find exessive hype and exaggeration found on some other KZread channels a distraction. Regardless, I hope for all of us that we are able to return to a more normal environnment soon and experience more in-person exchanges soon.

@@lawrencesturm19 Nah. I use both formats regularly, usually I frame for width and take whatever height. o make a bigger challenge, I regularly stick a prime on and use just that one les for an extended period. With practice comes learning, and it's mot an issue. The major differences are layout of controls and menus and capabilities, and those vary between cameras from the same manufacturer. Canon DSLRs are pretty consistent, Panasonic's buttons are all over the place.

I picked up my first film camera in Germany, back in 1959 while serving in the US Army. Later a canon point and shoot in Vietnam, also a film camera. Upon returning to the United States, I used a Nikon film camera, and later a Nikon digital camera, followed by lumix, fujifilm, and today O M 5. I shot freelance photography so much of the camera gear was a tax expense and could be used to deduct from taxes. I could have been happy had I stopped at the LUMIX, but a son got me to try the fujifilm Pro series. I came back to my 4/3 because of weight of the camera. I learned sometime ago that the camera is just a tool. I shoot street photography and print my best work. Most of the gear paid for itself until I retired 19 years ago. I just found your site and find it useful.

Then I complimented that with an Olympus OMD-EM-10 MKII (thus I found your friends Rob Trek, Robin Wong, Jimmy Cheng and Peter Forsgard). My gear journey has continued with a used Fujifilm XT-2 that I love due to it's ergonomics. I must say all three cameras have strengths and weaknesses, but like you said, it's about composition and the joy of photography not the gear. Leave Gear Acquisition Syndrome to others and let's have fun doing what we love, which is taking pictures. Good luck, Matti!

Hi, I understand what you mean about sharing your knowledge through workshops. Many years ago I used to teach basic skills maths to adult learners. They all wanted to be there to learn skills that had eluded them at school. I was naturally drawn to this teaching I struggled with all school learning, the programmes were rigid and if you fell behind, you got left. I learned all my maths through using them in the real world of manufacturing engineering. So, when I taught my class I drew on practical experiences to make the maths live and feel real. My students learned and I got a real buzz from the whole experience. I watched my first video of yours last weekend. I wanted to find out more about ETTR. I came across your video, I watched it three times and I learned. You are a good teacher and it was clear you have a passion and understanding for and of your subject; and you have the practical experience.

Perfectly summed up Matti saying we should forget the gear and concentrate on the art, all cameras are good today and it’s about the final image, how we get there is up to anyone to choose their tool/device. I followed you all the way when on my m4/3 journey and now have FF from another brand, but it’s been your photography knowledge and tips that kept me glued to your videos so best of luck with your new journey of freedom and I look forward to watching more 🙏🏻👍🏻

Matti; congratulations on deciding the next phase of your photographic journey. Your interest in organizing photographic training events (live events) open to all sounds appealing. Today mostly because of the internet we are driven to camera specific groups. In the old days without the internet trying to get a group together to discuss photography was difficult enough so all parties interested joined with a wide variety of cameras represented. Comparisons happened in live meetings with a general interest in all cameras and photographic methods. That may be more difficult today with the emphasis on camera specific groups. I wish you all the best in your new efforts.

Hi Matti, I was in the first dozen of your subscribers when you started your channel. Since then you taught me a lot about photography. Your Lumix and M4/3 content is one of the best here on YT. However, you are right a million times saying that there is no M4/3 photography or any other photography. There is photography and its rules can be applied to any gear. So, keep on doing your job and do not forget about us, your dedicated viewers, making us happy sometimes with some new content about photography. Best wishes from Ukraine!

I'm glad that you shed that obvious stressor from your life but will still have a KZread presence. The G9 is still my go-to camera most of the time but I have many others that I use for specific situations. I'm re-reading Ansel Adams' books and The Camera shows how system-agnostic he was and how the same basic principals apply, regardless of the gear. "The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it" will always apply.

Kind of sad, but totally understandable, Matti. In their zeal to promote their brands, many manufacturers are instead driving away their most passionate advocates. Here's an idea: the Micro Four Thirds consortium should create *their* own ambassadors! Imagine just being a "Micro Four Thirds Ambassador"--wouldn't that be awesome?
