I met Mike a couple of years ago when he stopped by my place of employment. Very cool guy. We asked him about the show and how scripted it was. He said it was scripted but they did actually make shine on the show. They all have license to distill shine he said and the whole ordeal about him, Mark and Digger getting into a fued which lead to Mike blowing up their still was all productions idea. It was all for show. Scripted or not the show is entertaining to watch....and Mike never followed thru on his promise of hooking us up with some shine for the holidays, lol.

I was thinking about this the other day and thanks for confirming it to me. The show is scripted, yes, but its only all the things around the moonshine itself. Mark and Digger and everyone else shown are licensed and legal, as well as the production probably had to get a permit to produce alcohol. The fabled hidden moonshine distilleries are also probably just a set piece (albeit a functioning one) for the show and all of their "clients requesting odd moonshine" are probably also just the production coming up with wild ideas to make it interesting, and not actual, real, buying customers. Thank to you I guess I wasn't far off the mark.

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control had to issue a statement saying it was all scripted and they had licenses so people would stop pestering them saying they really sucked at their jobs because they hadn't busted this guys already.

"let's go out here and talk". One of the scariest sentences in the game. Buddy prolly don't know it, but he was about as good as cooked.

A week ago my husband and I stayed the night in Newport Tennessee on our way to Chesapeake Virginia. We went to fruit jar alley and met digger. He was so awesome we got our picture taken with him. He gave us a postcard with his and Mark's picture on the front and they both had autographed it. Then we went to Dean's place. But it looked a lot different than what it does in this video. It was a lot smaller. I don't know what is up with that. The ceilings look the same with the dollar bills on there. The bar looks kind of the same. The dim lighting is definitely the same. The waitress there was really nice she said she waitresses part-time and the rest of time she is a correctional officer.

A period of time since the crime was committed will depend if the police can even pursue you for the crime. So maybe there is some illegality but I wouldn't see why they wouldn't have a license if you're an established moonshiner doing TV shows, and as far as untaxed liquor goes maybe they do or don't legalize the sale.

Because before the seventies there was a law called entrapment. It pretty much meant that a cop couldn't lie to you about being a cop, even if you're being investigated. That law was repealed.

Stills are for the likker and stills are made of copper(new ones are made of steel) but old school ones will always be copper because its easy to solder together. and you do realize all these guys are licensed to make and sell alcohol. they pretend its illegal for the show.

But if the person says his source jumped in price because of a raid or some other issue then it could be understandable. It just have to be a good reason. If you asked and they said it is what it is, everyone should walk away and leave that person alone until they have more respect for people
