I hope she’s okay… but that doesn’t happen by crashing it happens by constantly driving the gears without proper stop in each gear, no full break on while charging making it grind when switching. Just tell her to press all the way in to a full stop THEN change gear never change while the car still moves hope it helps!

That’s what happened to my 2009 RX 350. Unfortunately, I was driving across country when the transmission gave up the ghost.
Someone was driving it like a psycho. That same setup is in the million mile tundra. A750 5-speed is still used in 5th gen 4runners and other Toyota trucks all across the world. It never breaks.
That's why this model comes with 2 gear shifters. I don't know how the mechanic missed that?
I bet anything someone was slammed into park while they were still rolling and putting it in Drive still rolling backwards from reversing and vice-verca
I went to a used car dealer and it did a grind switching low to high range, and the salesman was like "oh that's normal they all do that" but I had a manual fj cruiser which has the exact same transfer case and I knew that wasn't normal, so I did it a few more times to see if it was a fluke or if it would do it every time, and the salesman got pissed "hey stop that, your going to break it!" Me - "I thought it was normal?" "You don't know what your talking about, just stop doing that" he replies. Needless to say I never went back to that dealership.
Good mechanic!
Given it's a Lexus AND a 450 no less my friend at Lexus Corp says Lexus will cover the material cost at the very least & if presented to the Lexus area rep probably the labor also. Might want to think about that Lexus is the most user/owner friendly Corp anywhere and they stand by their products plus they make the MOST RELIABLE CAR in the world give them a call
Takes big brains for a car owner to feel grinding when the do something and then continue to do it. In this case the difference in pulling the t case and changing out an adaptor and pulling apart a transmission and changing that shaft.
That's what happens when you rev the RPMs and drop it in gear
Ouch that noise but at least no one didn't got hurt
Been there done that. Genius design from toyota
That exact same thing happened to my Tacoma.

Seems like a common issue in Toyota products
That looks the same as one I did on a either Toyota pickup or a Highlander found that sleeve used on eBay for like two or three hundred bucks not available separately to the best of my knowledge got to get it used
Damn this is like the same sound coming from my 05 Nissan Sentra but it didn’t happen like this. My control arm snapped and the axle popped out as well. And when the tow truck guy loaded up everything went smooth. Then when he’s unloading idk what happen but Ig something with the trans whenever I put it from any gear into park it makes that same noise and now it’s just sitting parked up smh
I love Lexus..bullet proof
He can definitely save that spline by filing the damage a bit

@@dirtyaznstyle4156 true that. Better to replace I feel ya.
I just did a Lexus 460 had no need to take off anything other than the manifold, the dipstick and O2 sensor light butter people seem to be having a hard there’s no need to take the alternator off or the motor mount people make things difficult for themselves
I knew that sound had seemed familiar, my brother has a washing machine and the spinal gear torn up.
No she will be fine just get the little flat file out and do them splines, they look good apart from the start?
It will work again
I would get a smaller adapter so you would have to replace the shaft
Someone tried to shift on the fly. LoL
That shaft is fine no need to replace waste of money and time
My truck makes a very faint but similar sound going into gear.
An engineer said "this adapter sleeve is exactly the minimum thickness needed to transfer power, so we should make it 3mm thicker". Accountant "no, if that thickness works, we'll just build them like that, 3mm thicker would make each car cost $10 more".
Someone drove like maniac. The result is the bonanza.
Weld the shaft to the adapter
Thought it was an A-10 Warthog going all out.
Did a small jump on mine on gravel road and this happened to me
How did that happen
Haha Lexus go brrrrrr
Legit said has to be the shaft and I was right lol
Time to crack out the welder and fix them teeth on the shaft 😂
👍
My question is, does this happen on Toyota Highlander?.... recently looked at a car, but I sent him to a transmission shop, for almost the same noise.

Just cut the shaft end off and weld on a new end on

Never buy 4wd unless you actually need it. Winter tires are more important than 4wd. You can drive 2wd in snow with winter tires perfectly fine. If you believe you need 4wd because of snow you’re wrong and spending your money on the wrong solution to your snow problem.

Growing up in Michigan in the 60’s very few had 4 wheel drive. In the winter you put on the snow tires got around just fine.

2wd is fine right up until you have to go uphill on wet grass, then you're going nowhere
Ouch that's going to be pricey
Put a adapter section in it with new hub and run it. Likely last what life is left for the car...
If you have the ability to replace the shaft clean up everything else in the place it back in
Why don't you fix the splines on the shaft? Machine shops do that all the time.
Hammer the adapter on, tack weld it and send it 😂
If it was mine it would be getting a new collar and JB weld on the ugly side and letter buck
I have a toyota prado (the Toyota version of this car) with over 300k km on the clock and been given absolute hell. Never had a problem with it. I've Never ever seen anything like this on any car before. Plenty of people here in Australia with the same car with over 600k on the clock and no issues at all. This lexus mustve definitely had someone's kid borrow it for a night and did something stupid or a very rare case of factory defect

Yeah some nob probably tried to switch to 4-Lo without putting it into neutral or constantly not fully stopping after reversing and putting it into Drive.
@ethanmccoy1680

You can change between 4 wheel and 2 wheel without that happening but dropping between reverse and drive can definitely do the trick and my 02 Lexus is the same as your Prado 235k miles on the clock and almost no issues
What could’ve caused that? I’ve seen people Shift into drive while still rolling back. I was taught not to do that. It doesn’t sound good when they do it either.

@@shanew7361 I don't know on these Lexus cars but on trucks you can shift to 4 hi at low speeds like less than 10 mph and no tires free spinning, but it never hurts to engage in neutral at a dead stop. And after you disengage you should back up 10 feet to disengage front axle hubs. But this is trucks, I'm just saying that people arent necessarily stupid because they don't come to a complete stop
Thats what a few hot N drops will get you. Just never go hard on the R.
Bad design having a sleve like that! Huge problems with older volvos with awd having these sleves go bad.
Haha someones kid been doing them Rev dump neutral drop burnouts for the tok. 🤣
My dad has a Lexus RX with 135k miles. We think the transmission is going to be what kills the car because the torque converter is starting to go bad. We're not planning on fixing it. At the state it's at we'll probably get another 50-60k miles out of it before it fails completely then ship it off to a junk yard. If a Chrysler town and country can go 80k miles on a bad torque converter the Lexus should make it a while.

🤣🤣 bruh the first time I thought he farted
Okay. Now what caused that to happen? Just normal wear or anomaly?

Seems like a common fail point in toyotas
Honestly that hub doesnt look like it engages enough of that output shaft to begin with and likely is the reason for the failure. Looks like that hub only bites on about a 1/2"-5/8" of the output shaft to begin with. Need to legnthen the new hub to engage the rest of the output shaft and it would likely be perfectly fine with the existing shaft, actually probably be better than the stock set-up with the min engagement and a new shaft than modifying a new hub weith an extension and running the existing shaft with the damage it has. Likely be alot cheaper than replacing the trans output shaft as well. Sadly youll replace the adapter and the output shaft and 6 months from now the input of the transfercase will fail the same way because it only engages the shaft a 1/2" or so as wel
thats an a-10 brrting inside😂
Lexus GX 470 is just a dressed Toyota 4Runner!
And to the junkyard it goes.
I think a reverse drop burn out could cause that failure. 😂
Both......
Looks like a bad defect 😮
Dam someone driving the hell out of it.. spline ring easy fix.. transmission shaft damit just rebuild or replace.. either way... it's expensive good find mechanic
Thats why i drive a ford because I couldn’t afford a lexus trans
Sounds like my ass after taco day at work
Now we can spend alot of money, or a whole of money. lol
I would probably just put a new sleeve on and not replace the shaft
Eh a little J-B weld and slide that adapter right over it it'll be good to 👍 until the car takes a crap around 637,000 miles
Elephant farts 😂😂
Come on now Lexus. I want to buy a Lexus
Fuck that’s the whole car in expenses
Scotty Kilmer says flat out that shaft is definitely reusable. Scotty says he will cover it as he makes too much from KZread and it stresses him out.
I wake up almost every morning farting like that. So satisfying sometimes.
Not gunna lie i thought that noise was somebody blowing their nose
Same price to just to get a whole transmission put in
